USF goes on the campaign trail

Trail
Adam Rodanski, 20, calls prospective voters from Hillary Clinton campaign office in Nashua, New Hampshire. [Martha Rial | Times]

Nineteen University of South Florida students (mostly political science majors on the St. Petersburg campus) descended on New Hampshire last week to experience and volunteer in the nation's first presidential primary on Tuesday. This is the second time professor and former White House staffer Judithanne Scourfield McLauchlan has taught the Road to the White House, which looks at the history of presidential campaigns and includes a 10-day internship in New Hampshire. Each student gets to choose which candidate they help, and they have done tasks that include waving signs, distributing literature and working phone banks. For several of the students it was the first time they saw snow, and several others were disappointed to learn that the restaurants in New Hampshire do not serve sweet tea. Most of them plan on volunteering for their candidates when they return to the Tampa Bay area.

Take a photographic journey with them.

That's ONE way to recruit volunteers for D candidates.

That chick is hot

Egad! I cant imagine who we'll get stuck with; all of them are awful. But Hillary will be the most entertaining. She reminds me of Miss Ballbreaker in the old PORKY'S movie.

More like Nurse Ratched, if she married Huey Long.

You Rs should be very afraid of Obama.

The Buc's suck!! fire the coach.

Don't you hate her voice when she yells???

Don't you hate her voice when she yells??? She doesn't even have to yell. It's as if she's trying to sound like Eleanor Roosevelt and comes off as Margaret Hamilton from Wizard of Oz. There is hardly a more shrill, boring speaker in current American politics. if insincerity were an art form, Hillary Clinton would rival Frida Kahlo.

You Rs should be very afraid of Obama.

No, bud, sorry but as usual you Ds overrate your candidates and think your own smug self assurance is some kind of guarantee of success. That is why when you lose the more brainless of your partisans call the election stolen or hoist signs like the dumbo in 2004 with his "Middle America sucks" sign.

Here's a number you Rs should be very afraid of: 54.

That's as in 54% of New Hampshire Republicans have a FAVORABLE opinion of Obama. That's from the latest CNN/WMUR poll:

http://i.a.cnn.net/cnn/2008/images/06/topnh11.pdf

I have a favorable opinion of Obama too. Especially when compared to Clinton and Edwards. But will I vote for him? Not a chance.

from the same school that brought us Sammy Al-Arian

Gene, in that link to polling data I see nothing regarding Republican impressions of Democratic candidates. Are you making stuff up again or are you simply unable to read statistics?

10:11 PM,

Dammit, don't confuse Gene with facts. Now he won't be able to go to sleep tonight. Next thing you'll be saying, is that there was no '54' even connected to Obama's name on that polling report. Just plain crazy.

What is wrong with you lazy, uninformed people??? At least these students are doing something important, rather than just sitting on the couch in their boxers complaining about the others. Whether or not you support Hillary is your own decision, but don't belittle these hard working students just because they are trying to make a difference in the world. Why don't you start by getting your GEDs and then, just maybe, you will see things a little more clearly. If you don't have something meaningful to contribute, don't waste our time!

I think it's fine what the students are doing. If you actually go to the link provided, the students are attached to both Republican and Democrat candidates. It is the usual Demthug suspects who attempted to politicize this on partisan lines.

I'll amend that. To be fair, political flack came from both sides.

5:29 "Smug self-assurance" is what I call that smirk on GWB's face everytime he's lying to the people. You GOP's need to apologize to the US and the world for your lame homeboy and then shut up and let the Ds run the country for a good long while.

Is that kid in the photo skipping class on the bright futures tuition we are all paying for him?
