Democrats outraising GOP in FL
After years of being outspent in presidential races, the top Democratic candidates in this election are collecting as much or more campaign cash than their leading Republican rivals, according to data released Friday.
The top Democratic finishers in this week's Florida primary, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, raised $6.2-million and $3.6-million respectively during 2007 in Florida, according to new figures from the Federal Election Commission. That compares to $2.3-million for John McCain and $3.7-million for Mitt Romney, the top two finishers on the Republican side. The most successful Republican fundraiser in Florida was former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who raked in $5-million in Florida, but finished third in the voting and has since dropped out.
More here.

Why the surprise? The Republicans have abandoned their base and now we're returning the favor!
We're not that interested in their social rhetoric - we're interested in jobs that pay living wages, good schools for our kids, good universities where our kids can get a good education or good vocational programs so they can learn a trade that pays a living wage, and the ability to earn/save/plan for our retirement.
Giving fatcat exemptions for skyboxes and exempting services from taxes while taxing our homes and businessess to death is not the way to get our loyalty.
Living high on the hog by giving yourselves raises and trips to Boston while the middle class worker is slowing sinking into poverty with property taxes, property insurance premiums, and "fees" hasn't endeared yourselves to us.
Your pretend fix of property taxes is a crumb to a starving man.
Your "surcharge" on every insurance policy sold in the state to provide cheap property insurance for multi-millionaires' beach houses speaks volumes. Like Congress - you may be hearing our outrage next election.
You have one chance between now and then - this legislative session.
Eliminate fatcat exemptions to the sales tax.
Expand sales tax to include services.
Eliminate from Citizens - nonhomestead residences.
Eliminate cherry picking from property insurance - if they sell property insurance anywhere in the country they sell it here or they don't sell anything - write the legislation broad enough to include the "parent" companies.
Give back your 3% raises until you can do the same for the real full-time state employees.
Apply any "reductions" to agencies to the Legislature's budget first!!!
Reduce your salaries - currently you are paid more for your 2 month jobs as "members" than the average state employee (including the investigators who investigate child abuse).
Since your are "part-time" employees - pay for your own health and dental insurance.
Lead by example rather than by sound bite.

I'm shocked - an alleged Republican uttering the phrase "living wage" in a non deprecatory manner.
What has this world come to?

I see how the Boy George is claiming credit in papers across the state for pushing Charlie Crist to endorse Mccain. He is shameless and dishonest. He pushed anyone but Mccain and Arlene was always for Mccain. Isnt it enough George? The "people" are getting fed up with your act. Soon Charlie may join them. Give some credit to other folks when the are right. Its what adults do George.

geeeeeeeeeeee
what a surprise!!
give money to candidates who canNOT utter one single word critical of the chimp, his lies, his war, his economy, his degrading of the consitution and the pack of thugs and goons who have enabled him in each and every violation of the law and human dignity?
of course not!!

Poor Arlene all the work and no credit. Go girl!!!

Give the Mccain team credit. Cory Tilley, Kathleen Shanahan, Brian Ballard and Mac Stipanovich. They rolled the dice and stuck with their man.

What is even more interesting is the fact that the dem candidates raked in this much from Florida after they disenfranchised Florida voters...

Republicans abandoned their real principles of less taxes and less governemnt interference in peoples personal lives. They did not abandon their base, they aphartheided it. Limbaugh types have alienated good Republicans. They continue the labeling, the missuse of iconic lables, like "conservative" or "moderate". They do the exact opposite of what Reagan so brilliantly did, that was to be inclusive and gain power. Older Republicans will not tolerate this any longer. It may just be time for the party to get a good swift kick to try to get it back to where it belongs.

12:48 You are so correct. Do you think the Republican base see's how badly they have been used?

Speaking of fundraising -- do you know who was just hired as director of development at the Florida Education Foundation?
Eddie Borrego.

It would be nice if the Times would print all of the facts.
Reporting for last quarter shows that the Republicans raised $4.76 Million, compared to $2.36 Million raised by Democrats for the quarter.
Probably a direct result of the DNC actions and the ill-advised pledge that was signed.
