Florida. Of course.
Guess who liked the thinking of two prominent civil rights leaders, Mary Frances Berry and Roger Wilkins, who today urged the DNC to figure out what to do with Florida's and Michigan's convention delegates sooner rather than later?
Hillary Clinton's campaign, of course. Even though the Democrats vowed not to campaign in Florida after the Democratic National Committee eighty-sixed the state's delegates, Clinton strategists Mark Penn and Howard Wolfson said Berry and Wilkins are right-on. But Penn wouldn't take a position on having state Dems hold caucuses later this month to award those delegates.
Clinton, of course, trounced Obama in the primary last week, which would give her many more delegates if they were seated. Holding a caucus later this spring would have no such guarantees. (She was also the only major Dem on the ballot in Michigan last month).
"What we're saying is an election was held, a record number turned out, and we are encouraging our delegates to vote for the seating of that delegation," Penn told reporters on a conference call. "Look, these people voted, they should be counted."
Hmm... Now where was that line of thinking when Clinton pledged to boycott Florida before the primary?

More anti-Hillary spittle, huh? Of course the DNC should, and will, count our delegates and the majority will be awarded to Hillary, as they should be.She followed all of the same rules as the other candidates not to campaign here. Why shouldn't our votes be counted? Hmmm, is the author one of those vote- suppressing Bush supporters?
Posted by: | February 04, 2008 at 06:44 PM
Not a vote-suppressing Bush supporter... it is an Obama vote-suppressing Clinton supporter.
Posted by: | February 04, 2008 at 06:48 PM
Obama made huge gains with his black majority vote in SC, and turned around and got his butt beat by Hill in Florida. Turn-out was terrific, and I think Hillary's huge majority win in Florida accurately reflects our preference for her, not Obama. So we certainly should be seated and counted at the convention.
Posted by: | February 04, 2008 at 07:05 PM
7:05 - Did Obama campaign in SC? So the better known candidate in Florida should get the delegates and Obama, by virtue of keeping his promise, should be punished because he is lesser known? Or Hillary should be rewarded or is it Obama should be punished for their actions/inactions of gettnig their names off the ballot in MI?
Or is this your racism showing through?
Posted by: | February 04, 2008 at 07:11 PM
I voted for Hillary and the only way I'm staying a Democrat is if MY vote is counted not some later "caucus" vote).I have never voted for other than a Democratic candidate for president in my life (and it's a pretty long life) but I have been so insulted by the way the press, the National Democratic Party and the Obama campaign have patronized and minimized the intelligence and significance of my vote, that I have been ready to switch my registration to Independent and vote for anybody but a Democrat in November. The civility of the California debate dissuaded me for a moment, but there's still plenty of time.
Posted by: Susy | February 04, 2008 at 07:40 PM
Too late. The Democratic party disenfranchised voters in Florida. The national party put the dumb in Dumbacrat.
Posted by: | February 04, 2008 at 07:42 PM
Of course they are counting and will count our delegates. I bet it's straightened out in the next 4 weeks, and Hillary will get the votes she deserves.Obama's campaign should be as eager to have Florida Dems count as anyone, for heaven's sake!
Posted by: | February 04, 2008 at 08:02 PM
Unbelievable folks - how many votes would have Obama received if he was on the ballot in MI? Should he be punished? The idea of a campaign is to hear from the candidates and part of that process is having the benefit of being campaigned to. Democrats in Florida did not have that...
So will you racist Clinton supporters tell me how this would be fair?
Posted by: | February 04, 2008 at 08:42 PM
The only racists in the Democratic campaign seem to be the Obama supporters- can you say "over 80% of the SC black vote for barack"?Who would appear to be racist with those results? Whereas a diverse population like Florida ( white, black, hispanic, old young etc) gives Hill a real representative victory!Whoever you are, you can't possibly win this argument. The blacks are breaking in huge numbers for Obama, because he's black, for God's sake. How do you define a racist??
Posted by: | February 04, 2008 at 09:10 PM
And the blatant suggestion that I am a racist just because I support someone other than Obama makes me even more determined to take the "dare" and vote for anyone other than him.
Posted by: Susy | February 04, 2008 at 09:41 PM
If the Democrats back down on the rules - I say HYPOCRIT. I've had a personal campaign bringing notice to the hypocritical workings of the Republicans in DC - I'd hate to be viewed as one now.

Yo, 8:42 pm --
Poor little Obama supporter. Your candidate gets his a** whipped by Florida voters where there was a level playing field -- NO ONE CAMPAIGNED HERE, or did you forget that point
-- and then you complain that the lack of preferential pro-Obama treatment is Racist.
I think it's the other way around. It seems all you O-Train passengers demand special treatment for yourselves and your man, leaving "equal opportunity" by the wayside.
Or did you forget that Obama seemed to violate the spirit if not the actual letter of the "Pledge" by nationally advertising on CNN and MSNBC -- ads that just happened to be seen in FL as well -- the week before the Florida Primary date.
If Hillary's campaign did anything like that, you'd be whining, kicking and screaming, just like the spoiled little babies you are!
Posted by: Reality Check | February 05, 2008 at 12:18 AM
Wow, just wow. Look what has become of us. We let the legislature assign our primary in violation of our party's rules. We get punished for it, as we should. No one campaigns here, as they shouldn't have. According to the rules committee, which is there for a reason, won't seat our delegates and everyone starts whining. We are a group of idiots, let by morons. We broke the rules and because we are Florida we are better than the rules? Bite me. IF they seat our delegates they should not be assigned to a candidate and the delegation should choose when they get there and the same for MI. What is the problem here folks? WE got F%#$ed by the legislature again, why is anyone surprised? It is not Hillary or Obama, it is the FLDEM leaders and the legislature. Let us not forget that.

Reality Check and others...
Okay, lets flip this so you racist, black-vote suppressing Clinton supporters may understand.
Take Obama and Clinton out of the equation. Say it was the Republicans who had their delegates stripped and some well known Republican in the future such as Jeb was on the ticket with a lesser known Republican - neither campaigns in Florida because of a pledge, Jeb gets a huge majority of the votes because he is a well know figure. Then after everyone plays by the rules they agree to, there begins a push to seat "Jeb's" delegates... when no-one had the benefit of a television ad, mailer, or whatever to either bolster the lesser known candidate, or drive up Jeb's negatives...
All you Clinton freaks would be calling foul.
Posted by: | February 05, 2008 at 05:36 AM
Susy - you are being called a racist, not because you support a candidate other than the black candidate, you are being called a racist because you want to take an advantage your candidate has (name recognition) over the black candidate and use that for the sole purpose to bolster your candidates delegate count.
The problem with seating delegates at this point in the game is that no one knows if Obama would have received more of the vote... or for that matter, if Hilary would have received more...

Love to see Democrats scratch and squabble. Can you say President McCain?
Posted by: | February 05, 2008 at 06:32 AM
9:10 - so under your premise, if a greater number of women vote for Clinton, then they are...
Posted by: | February 05, 2008 at 06:42 AM
Okay children, the word of the day is HYPOCRITE
Posted by: | February 05, 2008 at 06:54 AM
Once again I must say how great it is sitting back watching Obama, Hillary, and the DNC slit each others throats. Makes the GOPs job a lot easier.
Posted by: | February 05, 2008 at 09:49 AM
9:10 - so, you have a candidate that has engergized a core group of your supporters and you are upset and think they are being racist because they are supporting him?
And that because Florida, in your opinion, is more representative (of you???), your vote should count more than the blacks in South Carolina?
A racist is someone who has preconceived notions of what should be based on the color of someone's skin, and you definately fit that profile... especially when you believe the rules should be changed to benefit your position.

5:36 Please don't mention Jebs name even in connection with an imaginary election. I CAN'T SURVIVE ANOTHER BUSH! PLEASE!

1:02 - thank you for proving my point.
Posted by: | February 05, 2008 at 01:05 PM
DEMs, please remember that our real goal is to oust the fascists who are currently roosting in the White House and running our country into the ground. Either DEM candidate should be easily capable of that if we remain united in our goal.
Posted by: | February 05, 2008 at 01:08 PM
1:05 You're welcome!
Posted by: AMERICAN FREEDOM & DIGNITY | February 05, 2008 at 01:11 PM
Democrats are not hypocrites hence, we play and live by the rules.
Posted by: | February 05, 2008 at 01:15 PM
Clinton/Obama or Obama/Clinton - either way the Democrats win in November!
Posted by: Go Dems | February 05, 2008 at 01:38 PM
Reality - Clinton polled high in Florida from day 1...Obama was never given the chance to campaign here.
No delegates were at stake, and now none sshould be counted.
Funny how Clinton supporters want it counted when it benefits her. Wonder what the attitude would have been were the shoe on the other foot?!
But, then again, the words "Clinton" and "hypocrisy" are never far apart.
Posted by: | February 05, 2008 at 01:44 PM
1:15 - not Clinton supporters in Florida - they want to change the rules after the game to give themselves an advantage.
I heard the NFL was thinking about revoking a rule that was implemented at the begining of the season... and they are now reviewing a play that the rule would have impacted and they have decided the Giants didn't get that last touchdown... and the Patriots are the Super Bowl champs.
Posted by: | February 05, 2008 at 01:44 PM
Democrats are always trying to change the rules ex post facto - In fact Al Gore and the Florida Supreme Court wrote the book on that in 2000.
Posted by: | February 05, 2008 at 01:47 PM
The GOPers can keep running off their mouths (or blogging mindless dribble) but come November - we will be electing a Democratic President.
Good bye Bush!
Hello Clinton/Obama or Obama/Clinton.
Posted by: Go Dems | February 05, 2008 at 02:03 PM
Go Dems,
You probably said the same thing last election didn't you...
Posted by: Go Where? | February 05, 2008 at 03:18 PM
Go Where -
I did say the same thing in 2006. Oh yah, the Democrats now control congress.
Keep your dribble going . . .
Posted by: Go Dem | February 05, 2008 at 04:19 PM
Oh, yeah, the Dems control Congress alright. So far, they have accomplished nothing, and with an approval rating of 26%, I wouldn't be boasting too much about that fact.

5:36 am --
Obviously, you're incapable of making a rational, persuasive and factually-based argument about the justification for the DNC denying Florida any Democratic delegate votes, so instead you just resort to the old grade-school name-calling tactic of calling someone a "racist, black-vote suppressor."
You also create a meaningless hypothetical in which Jeb Bush is awarded Florida votes.
Let's try a more menaingful hypothetical -- what if Obama won the Florida Primary. Would you then be trumpeting the results? And clamoring for your delegates to be counted?
I think you would. If you're wondering, I would , too ... just as I'm now doing on behalf of Hillary!
