Kathy Castor endorses Obama
Castor: "Barack Obama is the right person at the right time to lead our great nation as President in the challenging days ahead. Americaneeds Barack Obama to unite and inspire us to improve our country’s economic stability, health care and national security. Everywhere I go people are energized by the Obama campaign because it embodies our hope for change. I ran for Congress in 2006 to fight for a new direction for our country. Senator Obama offers the most determined and coherent plan for a new direction and change and I am proud to endorse him for President of the United States"
"Obama now leads nationally in the number of pledged delegates, in the popular vote, and the number of states won. It is time for our party to coalesce around Barack Obama’s nomination for President.”
Here's Castor last week as a neutral superdelegate.

Kathy and her mother Betty are the most ungreatful people ever!!! They owe their careers to Emily's List and Senator Clinton rasied Betty over $1 million.
Hon Kathy - Please don't ask any Hillary supporters for $ ever again.

Kathy,
I am terribly disappointed in your position. You obviously waited for yesterday's votes before making a decision. And your reasoning is faulty.
Obama does not have a well articulated position on most issues. I understand your attraction to the energy he has generated - he is a fabulous public speaker - but our nation is in deep trouble and we need more then hope for change. We need real change and he can not deliver. Are you really willing to put a leader in place based upon charisma and nothing else?
I loved and respected your mother's leadership and hoped for a similar legacy for you - but I no longer believe in you. You have lost my support from this day forward.
Posted by: | February 20, 2008 at 06:59 PM
Kathy, good for you! Obama is a winner, and Clinton has LOSER stamped on her forehead. The ridicule coming from her is an obvious act of desperation, and the United States of American will not buy it. We've had enough of the Clitons anyhow. Good riddance.

As a voter in your Congressional district, I applaud your decision Representative Castor. Your district voted overwhelmingly for Senator Obama!

Rep. Castor made a bold decision to support Obama knowing that some of her supporters would being disgruntled. But I've watched Castor since she was on the county commission and I seem to agree with most, if not all of her decisions.
I, too, am a feminist and really, really, REALLY wanted Hillary to be the nominee. I am even a member of EMILYs List. And, like Castor, I have found Obama to be the more appealing candidate at THIS time in our history. If Hillary wanted to keep my vote, she shouldn't have voted with Bush for the war. I'll continue to support EMILY's List and Castor with my time and money. And this year, I'll help Obama, too.

With the news breaking on McCain right now I guess it means hello, President Obama.

Great
Support a two year senator who has no clue, but can say we need change. Wet babies need change we need a PROVEN leader not a guilt vote winner

Welcome to the O-Train, Congresswoman Castor! Thank you for doing the correct thing and abiding by the wishes of your district and supporting Senator Obama! I couldn't be more proud today to have you as my representative in Congress!
GOBAMA!

Jimbo did you have to dig deep to deliver those cutting insults??? If Obama gets the nod, it's going to be a desperate year for the swiftboaters, I think!
Posted by: | February 20, 2008 at 08:21 PM
Good for you, Rep. Castor! We need change, and we need it now. Hillary has run an entirely predictable and tired D.C.-insider campaign, so she has only herself (and Bill and I guess corporate superstar Mark Penn) to blame.
Posted by: bob | February 20, 2008 at 08:42 PM
Kathy Castor is my Rep in Congress too, and I feel she is doing a fabulous job. Great to hear she's endorsing my candidate of choice in the 2008 Presidential Election! :)

Good for Congresswoman Castor. She will get a hard time from some- but she is taking a stand and reflecting the will of her district, which voted for Obama.
As far as the whiners on this page, do you realize that you are starting to sound like sore losers?
Posted by: | February 20, 2008 at 08:52 PM
I think she's hot.

Well done, Representative Castor! Senator Barack Obama's intelligence and integrity throughout this campaign has inspired me to believe that the American people can unite and bring strong, honorable leadership back to Washington.

Good Job, Representative Castor

Kathy is doing a great job representing her district in DC! This is one Republican that respects Congresswoman Castor and is honored to have her represnt me!
Posted by: | February 20, 2008 at 09:29 PM
Thank you, Representative Castor. I am a 56 year old woman who has researched all the candidates extensively. I agree wholeheartedly with your decision. Senator Obama has an impressive record, visionary policies, personal integrity and exceptional judgment, all of which could very well make him one of the greatest leaders of my lifetime.

Wake up people, we are handing the Presidency to the Republicans again. The democratic party has become a complete mess. It is time to chase Howard Dean out and plan for 2012.
Obama gives feel good speeches but has not discussed specifics, why because he has no clue. I agree that he will win the nomination but it has become a dream come true for the RNC.
The RNC was ready to give up on this presidential year and instead they are excited and energized at what a McCain Presidency will bring.

Lot of people commenting here seem to be of the opinion that time spent mocking or tearing down another will somehow build them up in the process. Sort of like blowing out a candle to make another candle burn brighter.
So there are people who are for somebody or something, and people who find it easier to be against without offering constructive suggestions themselves. I'm glad to be aligned with the hopeful, audacious types. February belongs to the dreamers.
Posted by: T Hayes | February 20, 2008 at 10:02 PM
Eric - McCain is the RNC's forlorn hope. Clinton and Obama will settle their differences and unite the DEMs, while the neocons are hurling all over their Mein Kampfs while they try to imagine a McCain representing their party in the White House. They will be so ambivalent that Rove and Norquist may not even be motivated enough to cook up a credible "orange alert" in the final days to help his candidacy along.

Welcome aboard Kathy! I'm glad to see an independent thinking woman supporting the BEST candidate in this race. We are Americans before we are women, Democrat, mothers, wives, etc.
Our nation is in better hands with Kathy representing us in DC and will be even better with the Obama family in the White House.
I say BARACK
You say OBAMA
Barack!

Thank you Kathy Castor - your support means alot to this Obama-maniac! I knew I voted a smart woman into office!

Clinton should resign, for the good of the party- but of course; she will remain true to form and throw as much mud as possible before the people finally reject her once and for all. Shameless. I love Bill and would vote for him again. His reputation is tarnished by this nasty campaigning.
Posted by: | February 20, 2008 at 11:15 PM
FOR ONE, THE DISTRICT WASN'T OVERWHELMINGLY FOR OBAMA, IT WAS BY ABOUT 4 POINTS. CUTE THOUGH.
FOR TWO, I HATE YOU KATHY CASTOR.

VERY disappointed. Wrong choice, Ms. Castor. You've bought into the hype of the male dominated press to endorse one of their own rather than the one who can do the job. The best man for this job is Hillary Clinton, hands down.
Ms. Castor, you have eroded support from women's organizations in the Tampa Bay area by being naive enough to follow the media's emotional appeal and a candidate's empty rhetoric rather than using logic to examine who can best serve our country in its time of need.
Shame on you for allowing patriarchy to continue its rule. Shame on you, indeed.
But, wait, didn't you also endorse a St. Pete City Council candidate who bashed gays? Are you trying to tell us something about your personal values through your endorsements? Perhaps Clinton is just too liberal for you. Maybe you prefer the religious undertones and self serving situational ethics of Obama who determines his personal values by what ever feels good to him at the time?

Hillary and Barack are both OK by me. Actually, it's pretty easy to just sit back and let the GOP pick my candidate for me; which ever one gets attacked the most must be the biggest threat to the Republicans. Looks like Obama's starting to pull ahead.
So, 2:06, I suppose you voted for Gore and Kerry in the last two elections over the Frat Boy Substance Abuser who now sits in the White House? You know the one that vetos the childrens' health care packages? P.O.S.

After hearing Rev. Jackson's comments, the message is clear: Democrats who want to gain the help of their opponents supporters should think twice about posting nasty comments. Now is the time to look toward November.
The Republicans are going to try to cause trouble between the two camps. Ask yourself, am I helping to unite or helping to divide the Democratic Party?
PS - neither the Obama supporters nor the Clinton supporters are without fault here.

Know that our foremothers won women of America to have a voice - an independent voice where we are free to support our candidate of choice. If you'd like to un-do all the work and accomplishments they made, please keep up with the "female on female" theme.
Sickening or you must be a Republican.
Posted by: Emily | February 21, 2008 at 11:44 AM
Way to go!!
As a middle-aged white woman who has supported Emily's List and NOW and once supported Hillary - and voted for Bill twice and supported him thru the impeachment - I have researched the issues and proudly support Obama. As a nurse, I am adament that we need health care reform and reviewed both plans and believe Obama's is the better choice. Despite what some Clinton staff have said since, I heard Hillary say that those who will not enroll in her mandatory coverage health plan could very well have their wages garnished. This is disgusting.
I have also been completely disgusted by the Clinton campaign's race-baiting back in SC.
The more I read about the Clintons, the more disgusted I am with them - and myself for having supported them.
Obama is the real thing.

Emily,
I doubt that the one you are referring to is a Republican, since it was under Republican control of Congress that women got the vote. It had failed twice under the Democrats.

What a great decision. Instead of blindly following womens' interests, which are undoubtedly important to Ms. Castor and mentioned above, she supports the most charismatic and intelligent presidential candidate since JFK or RFK. Instead of following Ms. Clinton, someone who polarizes the electorate, places the Democrats in danger of losing the White House come November, and is about to lose the nomination based on a very poor campaign, Ms. Castor endorses the candidate whom her electorate selected as well. As to the above, some of you should really be ashamed for your above short-sighted and closed-minded attacks.

Hillary raised Betty Castor over $1 million? That's a joke. She owes her career to Emily's List? She was on the State Cabinet before Emily's List began.
Posted by: | February 22, 2008 at 11:33 PM
If Kathy Castor believed Obama would be a better president, but sided with Hillary because she's a female, wouldn't that make her a sexist.
Most people now realize Obama is by far the best candidate, and would make the best president, so good for Castor.
Hillary needs to fold up the tent, and let Mark Penn go enjoy his $$, and let Howard Wolfson and Harold Ickes go argue with each other on an island with Bill, and leave the rest of us alone.
