Sterling Ivey is Crist's new press secretary
Sterling Ivey, the press contact at the Department of State, is jumping to the governor's office. Ivey will become press secretary, working with communications director Erin Isaac.
"Sterling brings to our office 10 years of experience in media relations and marketing," Gov. Charlie Crist said in a statement. "His understanding of how to strategically communicate our message will make him an important asset to our team."
Ivey has served as DOS communications director since 2006. Previously, he worked for the Pinellas County School Board and the Department of Corrections from 2001 to 2005. He served as a public information officer for the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and was a district executive for the Central Florida Council of Boy Scouts of America. He received his bachelor’s in mass communications from the University of South Florida.

I wish him the best of luck.. he is a good, innocent man.

Any bets on how long he will last?
Posted by: | February 18, 2008 at 06:16 PM
eeewwww. He looks like Tom Lee.
Posted by: | February 18, 2008 at 06:22 PM
Where did they get that picture from ? How old is this guy, 97 ?
Posted by: | February 18, 2008 at 06:33 PM
This guy is a class act. He has done a great job for the department of state and will do the same for CC. Erin better watch out!!
Posted by: | February 18, 2008 at 06:55 PM
He is a good guy and yes, a class act.
Posted by: | February 18, 2008 at 07:27 PM
Sterling - congrats!
Sorry about you having to put up with Erin... last one did not stick around too long...
Posted by: | February 18, 2008 at 07:28 PM
Taking bets on how quickly this goes south... Erin starts crying and makes the call to shut the blog down...
Posted by: | February 18, 2008 at 07:43 PM
Lots of folks talk about Erin on this blog but I haven't heard one concrete example that justifies the abuse.
Posted by: | February 18, 2008 at 09:55 PM
9:55,
You want one concrete example? How about several...as in the several talented former staffers who have already left because of her and it's only one year in.
I wish Sterling luck but give him six months before he starts looking for the door. Anyone who lasts longer is either sub human or truly a public servant.
Posted by: | February 18, 2008 at 10:46 PM
9:55 - have you ever worked with her?
Posted by: | February 19, 2008 at 06:23 AM
Nice picture. Isn't that the guy from Reno 9-11?
Posted by: | February 19, 2008 at 06:34 AM
Sterling - was that your high school picture? Where are the sunglasses?
Posted by: | February 19, 2008 at 07:37 AM
I've never met Streling, but that picture screams rat tail, London Fog jacket, and a Walkman playing Van Halen's 'Diver Down'.
Posted by: | February 19, 2008 at 08:05 AM
8:05 you are wrong - you HAVE met Sterling.
Posted by: | February 19, 2008 at 08:07 AM
Erin is wonderful and what I notice on this blog is lots of jealous petty people. There is always turnover in any press shop so don't point to this one as being any different. Sterling congratulations you are going to work for a wonderful Governor and a tough but very fair and talented Communications Director.
Posted by: | February 19, 2008 at 08:34 AM
8:34- obviously you have never worked with Erin. Sterling is talented and Erin will hide him in a closet soon enough so he doesnt upstage her.
Posted by: | February 19, 2008 at 08:41 AM
Yes, 8:34 there is always turnover in a press shop, but the turnover in this press shop since Erin took over has been realy remarkable. Also, don't you think it was strange that it took so long to fill this position? How many talented people turned down Erin's offers before Sterling said yes. There is definitely something wrong here. If the Governor is satisfied that his communications office has no strategy, that's his pergogative. That said, I've got to go now, I'm on a plane and about to take off. I'll post again when we land.
Posted by: | February 19, 2008 at 08:46 AM
Erin won't hide, she will sabotage like she always has...
Sterling - just cya and you will be okay... but then again, getting a definate direction from Erin may be tough.
Posted by: | February 19, 2008 at 08:52 AM
What has Erin done?
Posted by: | February 19, 2008 at 08:52 AM
I think Eric E. had to promise something to get Sterling to agree...
Watch out Erin...
Posted by: | February 19, 2008 at 08:54 AM
8:54- Erin has nothing to look out for. The second she hears any praise for Sterling coming from anyone in upper management she will slit his throat just like she has done time and time again with other staffers. She is so insecure that she can't allow any professional growth in the press shop for fear that one of her staffers might outshine her. It is really sad and pathetic.
Posted by: | February 19, 2008 at 09:17 AM
The governor must have low standards and Erin fits the bill.
Posted by: | February 19, 2008 at 09:29 AM
One in and one out. That press office is a revolving door. I heard that Erin has run off her second speechwriter in less than 6 months. Anyone who decides to give a job in the governor's press shop a shot under the reign of Erin has to be a complete masochist.
Posted by: | February 19, 2008 at 09:30 AM
How many people turned down Erin's offer because they made more money working at a state agency?
Posted by: | February 19, 2008 at 10:36 PM
Most of these posts sound like old deadbeat boyfriends who are jealous that the woman who dumped them (for good reason) has gone on to be successful.

What guy would be with Erin? Does anyone know if she has ever had a boyfriend?
Posted by: | February 20, 2008 at 04:27 AM
Yes she has had boyfriends and still does
Posted by: | February 20, 2008 at 09:35 AM
First half of the year nobody left the press office, then Erin took over and within 6 months over 10 people have left.
Posted by: | February 20, 2008 at 09:38 AM
Erin is cute....in that County Fair Pig Show kind way.
Posted by: | February 20, 2008 at 09:47 AM
9:35 why would you say something like that, I believe she is married and her husband may read the blogs. You can be as immature as you want concerning her work, but it is irresponsible to make comments like that.
Posted by: | February 20, 2008 at 04:59 PM
Poor guy...

I would have to agree with you that it would be irresponsible IF IT WASN'T TRUE.
If it is untrue (which it's not i don't think) then I would have to agree with you that I would be acting immaturely.
And if her husband is reading this, then take notice of what you've got.
