What did he say??
That was the question some people were asking after a United Negro College Fund luncheon in Tampa Friday where Gov. Charlie Crist was the featured speaker. Apparently, some of the 400 or so guests at the luncheon -- which raised $120,000 -- thought they heard Crist refer to it as a UNICEF event. Not so, said Curtis Stokes, who heads the Hillsborough chapter of the NAACP and was in the audience. Crist simply rushed together the U-N-C-F shorthand for the fund, and some folks misheard.

Nice from the "plain language" governor. I thought that the reason he didn't believe in using abreviations was because it causes confusion like this.

It's a terrible thing to lose one's mind.

I was there, he did say UNICEF.

He did say UNICEF, but that is okay. The media is making a bigger deal than it really was...we were thankful he came and people who do tons of speaking engagments make those types of mistakes all the time...Michelle Obama called Ohio, Iowa today but I still like her and her husband...people get tired.
But I guess if he did say UNICEF they should own it. But who cares, its over.

if there was a united white college fund the UNCF would be outraged. And Crist would not dare speak there because he might make someone upset.
Who cares what he called it though, everyone makes mistakes.

"negro" and "colored people"? can they say that? (smirk)
Posted by: | February 15, 2008 at 05:08 PM
Big deal. Cristi has had bigger slip ups than that. Like when he refers to himself as a Republican or a Governor.

From another blogger comparing Governor Crist to Ms. South Carolina
"And I think that one of the things that gives me most comfort, as I assume they're testing the constitutionality, is the fact that it will now be in the constitution, so I'm pleased with that."
Guess he is just setting the bar low for our expectations of him...

Gov. Crist has to be more careful when addressing his political base.

What is it with all the sour grapes about Crist? He's incredibly popular; Repubs should be proud of him More and more election results show that his GOP philosophy is what resonates with the most people. Times are changing, and it's obviously too hard for some people to adjust.

That event raised over $200,000 for college scholarships. The Republican Governor received a glowing introduction and two standing ovations at an event sponsored by the NAACP. And this is what the Times reports? This tiny report reveals much about the Times and nothing about anything else.

We love you governor. Doing the right thing just makes the bad guys so mad. Keep doing the right thing for us.

Charlie spends too much time pandering for McBomb and not enough doing what he is PAID FOR. Please, try to concentrate on actually DOING the job you are paid for THIS TIME.
Every job Crist has had, was spent blatantly campaigning for the NEXT dinner bell at the public trough.

He slams higher education in his budget and does a lousy job while discriminating in the FRAG budget, by suggesting it be altered so that minorites who do not go to the HBCU schools can't get the FRAG and then he goes to speak at this event. What hypocrisy!
Posted by: | February 17, 2008 at 09:28 AM
How can it be legal to continue FRAG unaltered for only the 3 black private colleges, and not the other 25 Florida private colleges?
Blacks do attend the other 25 colleges too!

4:35 How can Charlie lose that which he never had?
