Lynn to forgo pay from controversial FSU job
Sen. Evelyn Lynn. R-Ormond Beach, announced that because of all of the negative publicity over her $120,000 job at Florida State, she will work through the end of her one-year contract in September without pay.
In a letter to FSU President T.K. Wetherell, which the senator released to the media Monday, she wrote: "I am requesting that my current status, leave of absence without pay that I requested for the legislative session, be extended through the end of my contract."
As first reported by the St. Petersburg Times web site, Lynn, an Ormond Beach Republican, is paid $120,000 in government money to oversee a reading program for FSU that she helped create in her home county of Volusia. Lynn also is chairwoman of the Senate appropriations committee that oversees universities' budgets, including FSU's.
Also Monday, Gov. Charlie Crist reacted negatively Monday to Lynn's situation. "Well, I think I need to look at the facts a little more but it doesn't look great to me," said Crist, an FSU alum who had Lynn's support when he ran for governor in 2006.

Nope, doesn't pass the smell test. I heard she's not keeping the job.

I'm surprised to learn that she can read. She's a dolt.
Posted by: | March 24, 2008 at 05:42 PM
Interesting, when it became public did she make changes. I guess she thought it a fair deal before. I bet she quits. Don't expect much from Florida's lawmakers, most all smell.

In even more shocking news, Senator Lynn announced today that she will act like a Republican.
Posted by: | March 24, 2008 at 06:08 PM
Well, I think I need to look at the facts a little more but it doesn't look great to me," said Crist
Translation: I dont really even know what the "H" you're talking about.

OK, Senator Haridopolos Lynn did the right thing. Time for you to give up $75,000 sweetheart deal with University of Florida.
Posted by: | March 24, 2008 at 06:54 PM
OK Lucy Morgan, Lynn did the right thing. Time for you to give up your sweetheart deal with the St. Pete Times.
Posted by: | March 24, 2008 at 07:39 PM
Lynn is to be congratulated...she got caught with her hand in the cookie jar and acknowledeged it...that is truly a rarity in politics!
Posted by: | March 24, 2008 at 07:48 PM
Yeah, if only we knew for sure yet another back door deal hasnt been made!...Nahh our trustworthy poiticians would'nt do that would they?

More idiots on these committees. They sit around in a circle. They read from their "Think and Do" books with an ample supply of non-toxic crayons and blunt nose scissors. How many times are we going to pay these morons.

THESE PEOPLE ARE NOTHING MORE THAN GOVERNMENT MOOCHES!!!
Posted by: | March 24, 2008 at 08:38 PM
They are only picking on her because she is black. i looked it up, her great, great, great, grandmommy was Tom Jefferson's illigitimate slave child. Where is the NAACP when you need them? Not to worry though, she got the 120 k upfront under a hardship grant clause that lets her keep the cash in case something bad happens that threatens her other jobs. Sweeeeeeeeeet!

All these politicians are slimeballs. We need a second "revolutionary war" in America to get rid of these people!

My daughter got turned down at florida state, she has a 3.8 gpa. now i see why, she knows how to read already.
Posted by: Rodger | March 24, 2008 at 09:04 PM
I agree with Trunk we people of this country need to take back our government.I don't care if you are Rep or Dem all these politicians are lying theives. We need to watch every election and vote against everyone that is in office now.I am also a firm believer in term limits. Why should we have the same person in office till the day they die.Times have changed and we need younger minds to make decisions not some old goat that has been in office for 30 or 40 years.Term limits will help get rid of this problem.I feel they tell us all this BS to get elected then they don't live up to it.With term limits you could vote them out if they don't do what they promised.I mean we have term limits on our president why not the senate and house!!That would get their attention and know WE THE PEOPLE mean business. If they put term limits on the ballot i for one would vote for it.

3.8 and got turned down at FSU--grade inflation in FL public schools will do that to you. Every kid has a 3.5 or higher just for showing up. Pathetic.
Posted by: l | March 24, 2008 at 09:30 PM
Government mooches? Like the newspapers who reap millions in profits from public advertisements on government business? Why are those advertisements necessary? Newspapers lobbying the congress, that's why. Keep your government in the sunshine...or else! Big businesses get big government contracts. Newspapers get government advertising dollars. Who is it that ISN'T mooching off the government.
A shame that this woman had to undervalue herself and her contribution to society to make things "right" with another woman who overvalues her contribution to society.
A little girl on girl crime if you ask me.

3.8 and got turned down from FSU? Not likely, she must have scored a 600 on her SAT or didn't fill out the application correctly.
Posted by: | March 24, 2008 at 10:23 PM
Undervalue WHAT? Reading? I don't understand. I believe we are talking about a university here. The students should be able to before they get there. If they can't read they don't belong. What exactly is it that she is going to do? Invent the alphabet? Invent language? Save lives? Invent a time machine? She is nothing more than an illiterate government mooch. If you can read this you can thank a spell checker.

Is there any doubt that if Lynn was a D Crist would have chosen his words differently? If she were a D, Chuck would have used words such as "courageous", "dedicated", and "wonderful public servant" to describe Lynn before he distanced himself from her obvious silliness as it relates to this job.
Posted by: | March 24, 2008 at 10:48 PM
Nice going guys. We just saved the state $120,000. She was willing to do nothing for nothing!
Posted by: get-smart | March 24, 2008 at 10:51 PM
If Lynn had done it through the University of Central Florida she would not have been busted. Larry Abele, the FSU Provost should have known better.
Posted by: | March 24, 2008 at 11:22 PM
"Well, I think I need to look at the facts a little more but it doesn't look great to me," said Crist..
What kind of pathetic response is this? I swear Bush could come up with a better reply than this Crist moron.

At least Lynn was qualified
Posted by: | March 25, 2008 at 12:22 AM
9:27 - we have term limits now - what it means is that they spend their terms creating overpaid positions for themselves (which most do not qualify for - see Haridopolos AND Barreiro).
Because of term limits the goal of the member is 1) re-election until termed out and 2) make those connections to either become a lobbyist or an over-paid position at an agency for which he/she does not qualify for supervising people whose jobs they couldn't qualify for while those who actually have the education/training/experience are either laid-off or underpaid.
Posted by: | March 25, 2008 at 05:33 AM
Lynn is one of the most short-tempered, grudge carrying people you could ever meet.
But don't worry about her - they'll get her on the payroll yet and make sure she has reserved parking!!!! After all, in times where your having to lay-off professors who actually TEACH, what is more important - a vanity position or education???
We KNOW what the Legislature and Governor thinks!!!!
Posted by: | March 25, 2008 at 05:37 AM
She's just so sweet, makes you feel for her.

"I am requesting that my current status, leave of absence without pay that I requested for the legislative session, be extended through the end of my contract."
Political Translation: "I got caught"

Don't be fooled, shes not giving up anything. Now Haridopeolis should act like a man and give his fake job up too. There are very VERY few good and decent people in the Florida legislatutre. We lose the ones that are good because of all the inside corruption they are surrounded by. The good ones are never allowed to move to the top leadership positions. My God, they could not let a person with a conscience, one who just may do the right thing in a top position. It might get in the way of them making deals and cut into their financial gains. They spew out garbage about how great they are They think we just believe it. Just take a closer look at some of them.
Alexander a skitzo, who has tons of money from his grandpa and wants to make more using the peoples tax money in shady backdoor deals. And didn't he ave some type of relationship with a woman named Tina or something like that? He is married wih kids. Tina was not his wife. Hypocrites.
Carlton. She does just about anything she is told to do by the leadership. Cant figure her out. Think she just wants to be in leadership positions and if you follow along you get that leadership position. No backbone.
V. Crist. Lets see how and where he derives his real salary from? Could it be the state budget?
Baker. Got daddy's gun shop. His father was a remarkable man thats for sure, but the apple fell far away from the tree with this son. How is his income supplemented? Perhaps through his wife who recently was hired by Thrashers lobbying firm.
Wilson. derives, last I heard over 100K from her second government job as a Principal of a school.
Siplin and DLP, my gosh if the term "ethically challenged" doesn't leap out at you when referring to these two, then you may also be a Florida Legislator. DLP is the one who could not afford the fines from his hundreds of ethics and elections violations, but he has a mansion where he lives in Tallahassee. He does not even live in his senate district. Siplin, well just do some research on him. I just can't seem to get the picture out of my mind of him jumping over the fench when the media wanted to talk to him. Right before he was convicted. Ohh, but that has since been overturned.
Pruitt, Just do a Google search and see the questonable events that lead to him making hundreds of thousand of dollars.
There are so many more.

Lynn was working and getting paid for it--honestly, what's the big deal? Do we expect our legislators to live on $31,000 a year? That's not a lot, especially after taxes and in certain districts.
Don't get me wrong, I've never been a huge fan of Lynn, but she was working AND getting paid for it.
Posted by: | March 25, 2008 at 04:04 PM
11:47AM. I think JD's girlfriend's name is Renee. Oh well maybe it is Tina and Renee. Was Tina one of his consultant's in the campaign. I heard it was someone who worked in his first campaign.
Posted by: | March 25, 2008 at 04:31 PM
4:04 - she was paid $31,000 a year for a 60 day job, with free health insurance, free dental insurance, special "politician" retirement benefits, plus double state employee per diem and special payments anytime she had to come to Tallahassee. Raised a ton of money during campaigns and could pretty much spend the "excess" however she wanted.
She made more in 60 days than the average state employee makes during the entire year!!!!
Plus last year the Legislature gave itself a 3% raise and week state-paid vacation in Boston. This year their spending their week's state paid vacation in New Orleans.
Yep, we don't have money to pay for pre-natal care for pregnant poor women, we'll have to pay for their sickly babies regardless; we don't have money for drug prevention and treatment programs, we'll have to pay for their incarceration later; we don't have the money to pay for education, we'll have to pay for their welefare later - but who cares as long as CSX gets its 1/2 Billion dollars and Members can get part-time jobs that pay more than the full-time state employees who actually DO THE WORK!
Posted by: | March 25, 2008 at 08:45 PM
4:31 I think it was Tina or something similar. And I do believe it was from his first campaign.
Posted by: | March 25, 2008 at 10:16 PM
Ha give me a break. Lynn leaves a $120,000 job and keeps the 30,000. RIGHT, I believe that one. Ha Ha Ha
