FL Dems: Blame us? Naaaaah

From the print Buzz column Sunday: For all the fuming, all the arm-twisting, all the news conferences and all the anguish, there were three words never uttered this week by Florida Democrats struggling with their Democratic presidential primary fiasco: We blew it.

"No, the bill was a good bill,’’ state Sen. Jeremy Ring, D-Parkland, told Buzz, when asked if he had any regrets for sponsoring the bill to move Florida’s primary early and blow off the national party rules. "I don’t deny there’s a crisis here, but I’ll go to my grave saying it wasn’t my legislation, but the DNC response to it that did it."

Many of them like to say they were steamrolled by the Republicans controlling the Legislature, but Democrats went along for the ride and only made a token effort to comply with the DNC at the last minute.

Now that it’s apparent state Democrats’ actions in 2007 could wind up playing a role in delivering Florida to the GOP, they’re still pointing the finger squarely at the Democratic National Committee and holding themselves blameless. "Had they simply done exactly what the Republicans did, would we even be in this mess?,’’ asked state House Democratic leader Dan Gelber, noting that the national Republican Party only stripped half of the Florida GOP’s delegates away for violating the schedule.

Comments

There has not been one Democrat, party leader or elected official, in the state of Florida who takes any responsibility for this mess.

They blame Howard Dean (who by the way they supported for DNC Chair). They blame other states, even though when given a chance to apply to be one of the earlier primaries (which Nevada got), Florida didn't even request to go early.

Now Sen. Obama will both refuse to seat the delegate or consider a re-vote. So, his congressional Representatives (Castor and Wexler) are trying to reduce the number of delegates that Florida receives to devalue our state even more.

Such leadership - I am sure proud to be a Democrat.

2:29 Don't worry - you're not!

I think this is hilarious. I mean, truly and absolutely priceless!

I'm not sure why people are so focused on wanting to blame someone. Who cares? Once you find that person, then what? The point is that this needs to be fixed and the only way to do that is to work together. Don't do what the Republicans want us to, we are falling right into their hands!

So stop focusing on who to blame Dems, move on and focus winning Florida in Novemeber. Democrats spend more time complaining than actual action.

No wonder the jackass is the symbol of the Democrat party.

No wonder corruption and perversion have become the relaity of the Republicon party.

Count Florida’s votes as “votes”, split Florida’s Delegates 50/50, toss Michigan completely, and remove ALL of Florida’s incumbents come their respective Election Day.

Problem Solved!

The punishment did not fit the crime. That being said, state party leaders should have encouraged the DNC to adopt similar sanctions as the RNC's. Their lack of strengh makes the circular firing squad no surprise.

Wanna talk about corruption and perversion? How about talking about Elliot Spitzer and the Louisiana Dem with cash in the fridge and the guy who says he did a menage a trois with NJ gov McGreevey and Mrs. McGreevey? Google Gerry Studds, a former Dem congressman from Massachusetts. There's sufficient venality on both sides of aisle. And for the guy at 4;54 who appears language-impaired, menage a trois is a three way sexual encounter. I'm sure you are accustomed to a menage a un, so that will give you something to think about.

The state of FL has a right to hold it's sovereign elections any time it desires just like other states.

There are no mythical rules.
