While it is true that she's gratuitously insulted every Puerto Rican citizen's pride in his or her own American citizenship and thereby embarrassed everyone who voted for her; while it is true that she wrote a local paper that the Iraq war would be settled in Washington--as if the troops and the suicide bombers were irrelevant to the outcome if only congress willed something one-mindedly enough; while it is true that she's bad for the economy and has voted to authorize trillions of dollars in additional national debt; she can't be beat unless the Democrats offer a credible candidate and support him or her the way the state and national Republican Party support Ginny--things that haven't happened in recent elections.
Heck, the Democrats can't even operate on the principle that every voter ought to count exactly one vote.
She's a shoe-in.

Mr. King, you have my vote and I will campaign for you. It's time for a fresh breath of air in the 5th District. The bigotry and hatred shown by Ms. Brown-Waite and her loyal constituents is suffocating.
She is a baby killer (votes pro-choice all the time!). How can one be a Christian and a baby killer? Everything she says is a lie. She does not have the backing of many Veterans because they don't trust her. They get the Middle Finger when they call her office for help.
And that last statement she made when the Puerto Ricans were protesting, was completely uncalled for.
This woman has lost her mind.

The Republicans can't afford her any more and the Democrats will not win while that district is drawn to the Republican advantage. Why doesn't the Democrats look to a viable Republican? There are a few in that District that have been elected and one that is very popular they could look to.

I am glad someone referenced Puerto Rican’s as “foreign citizens” because this opens the door for communication. It upsets me that this has turned into an OPPORTUNITY of Protest instead of an OPPORTUNITY of Education. This is not a Republican or Democrat issue, this is an issue that crosses party lines.
As a Hispanic, countless times I have been asked for my opinion on immigration or amnesty and my reply has always been that I cannot give an opinion based on personal experiences because I am of Puerto Rican descent. I can however give an answer based on my experience as an American or through experiences shared through my fellow Hispanics that are not Puerto Rican or Cuban.
Waite’s comment is what so many others would say because like her they don’t comprehend what Puerto Ricans really are. It is confusing just for about anyone because when a “non-hispanic” goes to visit Puerto Rico they would consider it foreign since the language, food, music, and culture are different. At the same token Puerto Ricans are U.S. Citizens, they can be drafted into to U.S. military, although they cannot vote for a U.S. President, don’t have voting rights in Congress, and don’t pay Federal Taxes (only social security and medicare).
I would prefer to be called Puerto Rican as well as 4 million others on the island, however as long as Puerto Rico remains a commonwealth (a territory) of the U.S. this confusion of description will always remain.

None of this would be an issue if she had simply voter against the Bill in the first place. If she felt so strongly the Bill was bad that she had to issue a press release to cover her backside on her vote whay did she vote for it in the first place?
She is very able to offer and apology with the same heartfelt support she has for the Fair Tax.
My heart goes out to her on her husbands cancer but if she has to be by his side (as I did with my husband)how is Congress going to win the war without her being in Washington?
Sadly this woman is hurting our Party on a local, state and national level that we should not sit back and accept.
I say good luck to Mr. King and his comments.

Hear, hear, Bella.
I watched star 49, then star 50.
Don't they teach about the frustrated Puerto Rican shooting at Truman?
Or the years when we touted Castro as a freedom fighter ousting a bad regime?
Some idiot blogged that Obama was foreign born (in Hawaii -- please) and didn't know McCain was born in Panama Canal Zone, but when it was under lease as US territory.
Few realize that MADE IN USA label can mean that Abramoff bribers from China use conned foreigners in slave shop factories --- in Northern Mariannas, since it is US territory.
Most don't know that Bush's relative, Franklin Pierce, refused to swear his oath of office. Nor do they realize that affirmed is okay because our founders WANTED CHURCH AND STATE SEPARATE.

How will Congress know that Ms. Brown-Waite is absent???? She's never there!! She uses tons of our good tax money to fly to DC on Monday, to be (I would want to say decorative, but she is FAR from decorative) useless, flies back on Thu morning to be absolutely useless...cuts a ribbon here and there once in a while, ONLY if the press is around for a picture. She spends tons of taxpayers money to send campaign material to the voters in the District. And then she says she's concerned about her voters tax money going to Guamanians and Puerto Ricans? Still she votes for that bill that will help the U.S. in NO WAY. Give me a break, Ginny. Go back to school and get an education. You are nothing but a photo opportunist .

She could be very vulnerable. But in a Republican drawn district, and with the Democrat challengers that are running (I mean no disrespect), they cannot touch her. It will take another Republican candidate that the people, Democrat and Republican alike, would rather have in Congress. I can think of a few.

Mr King has no chance of beating her. It has to be someone who people recognize and admire. Someone who can raise the money and someone people trust and it has to be another Republican. Mr. King is just simply not that person.
Posted by: | March 03, 2008 at 02:45 PM
Mr. King has every chance of winning. He is not a career politico, owes nothing to anyone, not owned by special interest groups and bottom line is anything is better than what we have now.
Posted by: | March 03, 2008 at 03:24 PM
A freaking earthworm would be better than what we have now!
Posted by: | March 03, 2008 at 03:28 PM
In all seriousness, there is only one Democrat who can beat her: Karen Thurman.
Posted by: | March 03, 2008 at 09:19 PM
GBW will be unseated for the 5th district by a candidate from Lake county!

Let's make it a fun election:

3:24 You don't get it. He has no name recognition, no real money, no base support, no Republican leaders support. It is not about him personally, he could be a great guy. He cannot beat her. Another female Republican or male Republican with consumer apeal can do it. So while you may want Mr. King to win, it aint gonna happen.
9:19 Karen Thurman cannot win in a district that is drawn for Republicans. Cannot happen. You all need to get real and understand that if you really want to get rid of Ginny Brown Waite, and if it is not about you just wanting to get elected, then you have convince a viable popular Republican to replace her or you get nowhere.

Senator Fasano is going to run against her.
Posted by: | March 03, 2008 at 10:18 PM
I cannot believe that Brown Waites husband is sick and shes at Lincoln Day dinners. She needs to be with her husband if he is so sick.
Posted by: | March 03, 2008 at 10:20 PM
Fasano doesn't live in district 5. Fasano is in Bilirakis's district.
Posted by: | March 03, 2008 at 10:28 PM
You might be right about Mr. King but then how did he manage to get 120 to a veterans breakfast on a Sunday morning?
My husband switched from D to R so all things are perhaps possible. The last thing we need again is another go along to get along political type. Perhaps if we have learned one thing from the congresswoman is enough is enough for those political types.
Posted by: | March 03, 2008 at 10:34 PM
10:34 it is obvious you have not been involved with political campaigns. 120-300- or 500 is nothing compared to the number of people in a Congressional district. While I agree that is good that he did that, but wait and see what she does and how much money she will have to remake herself to the large constituency and he will not be able to get the message out to combat that. It has to be someone who can split the money that will go to her and has been elected and is still electable and has a much larger citizen support base.
Posted by: | March 03, 2008 at 10:42 PM
10:28 Oh you know the districts. Interesting. Your either Ginny,, Jim or someone who works for them. Many politicians move.
Posted by: | March 03, 2008 at 10:45 PM
10:34 I agrree with you about the go alongs. I agree Ginny needs to go. I have seen her lies. She is a real politician. What I have learned is what it takes to beat an incumbent and Jim does not have that. He could be a great guy, but that doesnt cut it. He will have to learn the hard way. There is others out there who can beat her because they have the connections and the resources. They are not go alongs like Ginny. But people need to convince them to run. They are not likely to want this job but could do it and they could win. What Jim should do is hire a real pollster, not a push poll, but a real one. No one locally can do this type of poll. I think that will show him how bad it could be for him.

Fasano will never run for US Congress. After he terms out in Tallahassee he will run for one of the Pasco county constitutional offices. He better hurry though if he wants one of those cozy offices...his voter base in West Pasco of blue collar retirees is either dying out or getting priced out of Pasco.
Posted by: | March 03, 2008 at 11:33 PM
Fasano will run. Ginny needs to go.
