McCain returns to Florida
The day after clinching the Republican presidential nomination, John McCain will be back in Florida, foraging for campaign contributions along with Gov. Charlie Crist and other supporters. The first event is at the Gulf Stream home of Harry and Deborah Sargeant (he's a Boca Raton business executive who was a frat brother of Crist's at Florida State and is a frequent visitor to the Governor's Mansion). On Thursday morning, McCain holds a second fund-raiser in Naples.
The New York Times reports that as he heads to Florida, McCain is directing his staff to begin "a process" for short-listing possible vice-presidential running mates.

Dear God in Heaven - let's please hope that McCain isn't so stupid as to think that Charlie would help him in any way. It's the sure fire way to lose.

Really, Crist can't help McCain in anyway? He helped him win Florida, and he's apparently hooking him up with some fundraising. Crist can help a lot even if he's not the VP

Crist can help him hold onto the moderate Republican crowd and other Party First voters here in Florida but that is it.
There are conservatives who will not vote for McCain no matter what especially if he picks Senator Kennedy as a running mate.

Wow, I wonder if Cristi had withrawal symptoms last night because she could not stand on the podium behind McCain on McCain's night of triumph?

So Giuliani folks all over the host committee and initial McCain backers thrown off. Very nice work !

Conservatives will vote for McCain because the alternative is repugnant to them - regardless of which Democrat wins the nomination - they will vote for the Republican.
McCain is free to select a running mate who is more moderate. He does not have to be "beholding" to the radical right wing Conservative mouths who have ruined this nation with their idiot boy, George Bush. In fact, he would be wise to select a moderate with the hopes the ticket can peel away some of the moderate Democratic voters. Colin Powell would be a good selection - someone who is now personally distanced from Bush policy and respected by the American people - not that Powell would accept the offer.
Crist may not be the VP elect - but if he is smart he will be negotiating for McCain's support for a federal catastrophic fund and if McCain is smart he will be agreeing with Crist.

If McCain is smart, he'll use CC to raise funds from Log Cabin Republicans and that's about it.

Really? Did the St. Pete Times tell you that? McCain won Florida because Mitt Romney was a little too scary to some - probably all that press questioning his Mormon faith. If I had known before I cast my vote that Charlie of the Chocolate Factory was going to endorse him, I dang sure would have voted for someone else. He's a first class idiot that has managed to snow people into placing him into positions he is wholly and completely unqualified for - shocker. Happens in corporate America EVERY DAY.

I will not vote for a President who chooses as his VP, a person who knows not where his office is, proclaims with delusion that everything is just hunky-dory, and pimps $240 as a job well done.
McAmnesty/McFraud ’08! … I think NOT!

Maybe Senator McCain's staff should take a cue from the State Republican Women in Florida.
The State Federated Republican Women just had their annual Board of Director's Conference in Tallahassee which endded yesterday.
They conducted a straw poll for VEEP 2008
Mitt Romney came in first pick for VEEP.
He had double the votes of the next choice who was Gov. Haley Barbour. Third was Condi Rice and 4th was Gov. Bobby Jindal.

Dr. Rice would be a stroke of genius, but she's already ruled herself out.

Condi is great but came in 3rd anyway. I like the number one pick myself

calm down 1:29 or should I say Carole Jean

I thought a “straw pole” is what Redner had installed at his Gilligan’s Island Mon’s!
I’ll pass on McAmnesty thank you very much!

I see the Prez still thinks enough of himself to offer McCain his endorsement. John, here's you chance to show your true colors. Ask Charlie about his "Grand Snub" in 2006 and take a major step forward in credibility. And if you should win, don't even think about a position for that wannabe, Jeb.

1:51 Carole Jean?
Nope! She was not even there.

2:44 He already sucked up and flip flopped. "A third term" (for Bush) is how one DEM described his new position.

Someone mentioned Colin Powell as a running mate for Juan McAmnesty. News Flash, he was Bush's Boy at the UN and has lost much of the credibility he once had, particularly with those who do not suscribe to a Neo-Con global village outlook where the United States Military is the self appointed police department.

A federal Confress investigation and subpoenas are winding their way in Washington DC. Apparently, the DOJ attys werent JUST fired for the voter fraud investigations that the refused to do before elections. All FOUR terminated Ca. Ms, Tx and Ks DOJ old attys had BILLION dollar TENET and NOVATION health care investigations filed since 2002 in their states.
Crist from Florida is the ONLY atty that ALSO SETTLED for the same range of money in the same 90 day period as the NEW ROVE PICKED DOJ attys in Ca,Ms,Tx, and Ks. It was the software that COUSIN JONATHAN BUSH sold to these two companies from his Athenia Corp that caused the overcharging.
And it wasnt an accident that DOJ Alberto Gonzales had an interest in the subject matter: HIS OLD LAW FIRM REPRESENTED THE COMPANIES! And then Jeb Bush had to go and be on the board for $260,000 a year. Looks bad...
Crist has over 5 other serious lawsuits in the Atty general's office that Butterworth had set up some before he left, and Crist with Clayton Roberts at the helm DISMISSED.... This is not making anyone think he is the people's governor....
