McCain selects Florida gov as running mate
Wolf Blitzer tonight broke the news that presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain has looked to Florida for his running mate.
"Sen. McCain has played the Florida card," Blitzer said. "He is reaching into the Sunshine State for the top political talent that he hopes will guarantee that on election night, Florida once again will be in the GOP column."
Cue the scene of Lt. Gov. Jeff Kottkamp being interviewed on CNN.
Blitzer, whose mother lives in Florida, went along with the gag, which helped close out the 2008 press skits at the Moon in Tallahassee. It was a joke, folks.
(Lest we forget who is the real star, Crist showed up fashionably late with Time political reporter Mark Halperin in tow. That morning, the governor was featured in the New York Times.)

Love It!!!

The Kottcamp thing was pretty funny.

Hmmmm... didn't see that one coming.

If this is true, we can finally get Speaker Marco Rubio in the governors mansion.
He just help put the new property tax amendment on the ballot.
Go Gov Crist, Go Speaker Rubio!

McCain would be an idiot to pick Gov Crist.
First, FL may not even be in play any more for the democrats.
Second, Gov Crist is way to moderate and an unknown to help McCain much nationally.
Third, Republican conservative will not like this pick.
NO WAY GOV CRIST HEADS TO D.C.

He's going to lose that tan up in DC
Posted by: | March 17, 2008 at 11:49 PM
Rubio could never beat Kottkamp FYI.
Posted by: | March 18, 2008 at 12:36 AM
Crist is a perfect running mate...Nobody knows anything about him because he hasn't done anything....He is not controversial..Maybe Florida will now get a governor that is actually going to do something for the state....You can have him, DC!

I hear there are lots of bath houses in DC, so keeping his tan won't be a problem for One-term Charlie.
Getting Charlie out of Tallahassee and in DC as VP window-dressing would be the best thing that could happent to Fla. Of course if something happened to McCain, we're in real trouble.

12:36- Rubio already has, how do you think he became speaker
Posted by: | March 18, 2008 at 07:17 AM
We love you Governor just keep doing the right thing. These guys hate that they cant get you to do what they want, the wrong thing. The people of this state are very much with you.

Somebody needs to clue McCollum in that he'll never win either.
Posted by: | March 18, 2008 at 08:01 AM
Hey everybody - THIS WAS A GAG. IT IS NOT TRUE. READ THE ARTICLE AGAIN.
As much as I would like to see the idiot out of Tallahassee, having his selected as a VP candidate IS NOT the way to do it. HOW ABOUT A RECALL?????
Posted by: | March 18, 2008 at 08:22 AM
God, I didn't almost have a heart attack when I read that?
Posted by: | March 18, 2008 at 08:36 AM
8:36 - you and me both. I thought it was the end...
Posted by: | March 18, 2008 at 08:40 AM
Headline and story got it wrong... McCain selected the Lt. Gov as his running mate in the skit.
Posted by: | March 18, 2008 at 09:01 AM
I’m glad to see you folks having such a good time, while good, hard-working, tax paying, citizens in Florida are losing their homes and jobs in record numbers.
From Chuck, to the Rube, to the pack of lying minions called the Legislature… these Florida politicians are absolutely the most pathetic excuses for leadership I have ever seen.
May God help us all.

11:48, why are people saying Florida won't count? Don't you guys understand the difference between a primary election and the general election? So, we may not be represented at the Democratic Convention. We'll all be able to vote for president in the general election, where Florida is a key state.
Posted by: | March 18, 2008 at 09:04 AM
appauling!
he did nothing but use his salary for photo ops, no work done here! He also helped in the primary disaster.
He's dating a married woman! OMG!!
Posted by: | March 18, 2008 at 09:20 AM
Crist would be the first gay Vice President in history that we know of. I guess his first act as nominee will be to get married.
Posted by: Jackson | March 18, 2008 at 09:53 AM
We've actually had a gay president: James Buchanan.

this is not true. is CNN the new Fox News -- just reporting what they want to report?
Posted by: suckerz | March 18, 2008 at 11:16 AM
11:16: did you read the whole story? It was a spoof, with Wolf Blitzer in on the act.
Posted by: | March 18, 2008 at 11:17 AM
This is wonderful news! Now not only do I get to NOT vote for McCain, but I get to NOT vote for Christ again! Friends don't let friends vote republican.

change the headline -- this is misleading. all it says to indicate that its a joke is: "Blitzer, whose mother lives in Florida, went along with the gag, which helped close out the 2008 press skits at the Moon in Tallahassee." But you can easily read this as 'Christ is a poor decision for anyone to pick as VP' <--- that's what i thought th gag was.....

People don't take the time to read the entire articles, that is why some of them get bent out of shape for no reason.
And even thought several have pointed out the fact that IT IS A SPOOF, some will still think it true.
No wonder we are in such a mess. People hear what they want to.

the headline is misleading, yes. the article is poorly written too. this should be removed from the Buzz

7:17 am... Don't revise history. Rubio became Speaker because Kottkamp handed it to him. He could have just as easily handed it to Gardiner. (Which is why Gardiner hates Kottkamp). Plus, Kottkamp wasn't willing to lower himself to the level that Rubio-Rivera does.
Posted by: | March 18, 2008 at 09:10 PM
Charlie for VP! That would be so good for Florida.
KottKamp would need a strong Lt Gov. Should be a female that has popularity and experience. We would be sitting pretty
