Rouson wins HD 55
ST. PETERSBURG — Darryl Rouson, the hard-charging attorney and former head of the local NAACP, beat out two other contenders Tuesday in the Democratic primary to replace former Rep. Frank Peterman in the state Legislature. Rouson won 44 percent of the vote, beating activist and educator Charles McKenzie with 30 percent and St. Petersburg City Council member Earnest Williams with 25 percent.
Story here.

Great choice by the voters of District 55, and another rejection of the Helm cabal.

Does Darryl have to wait until after the 4/15/08 election to switch back to a Republican or can he do it now?

See you in August!

Congratulations, Darryl. Do a good job, buddy.

3rd place for ernest williams, imagine that. Must have been all the State Farm policy holders who got cancelled and the citizens of St Pete who are upset by council members not telling the RAYs what they can do with their new outdoor, no parking stadium.

Tough break Charles. It just shows how malleable and ill-informed the voters in 55 are. Not to worry though… 55 will soon realize Rouson’s worth-less-ness. I’m betting 6-8 months before the first scandal emerges… after he switches back to Republican.

Good riddance Mr. Williams, you reap what you sow.

Congratde Darryl! Shake em up in Tally

Great! Another crack addict in the Senate.

Why didn't Baker go all out for Williams this time?
Posted by: | March 26, 2008 at 09:39 AM
well looks like CC got what he wanted, which is why he appointed Peterman Secretary of DJJ
Posted by: | March 26, 2008 at 10:27 AM
With those numbers, you can't exactly say McKenzie was a spoiler. Many of his votes would NOT have gone to Earnie.
Posted by: | March 26, 2008 at 10:53 AM
Why should Mayor Baker go all out for Williams when Rouson has done far more for the good of the City.
Posted by: | March 26, 2008 at 10:54 AM
Maybe after Angelo Cappelli, Gershom Faulkner, Ed Montanari, and Mitt Romney, the Mayor figured he better get out of the endorsement bidness.

We shall see what August brings.Mckenzie made a powerful styatement. You guys give Helm much more credit than he deserves.I guess bigots have to always think some white guy is behind every good thing.

We shall see what August brings.Mckenzie made a very powerful statement. You guys give Helm much more credit than he deserves. I guess in the mind of a bigot some white guy has to be behind every intelligent black man.

11:59 Helm has backed several city, county and state candidates in the last couple of years. Every one of them has been crushed. Something for Reverend McKenzie to think about.

How do you get a weak and extraordinarily flawed candidate elected in Pinellas, you get the Republican Governor to appoint another weak candidate to some post so that a Special Election can be called and 12 people can come out to vote.
Works every time...

Mckenzie's campaign had a wonderful group of volunteers from an array of places. Helm played no significant role in his campaign. He was one of several volunteers.Where do you people get off?
Posted by: | March 26, 2008 at 01:30 PM
Mckenzie was a statesman in this race, something the other two have said themselves. He showed respect for his opponents and stayed focused on the issues.Isn't that what we are looking for?

Attention moron at 12:56,
Many people have backed several city, county and state candidates in the last couple of years, who have lost elections. Does that mean they’re all idiots, or are you just another nutjob fixated on Helm.
Perhaps you should see someone about your suppressed man-crush on Ed.

This race is over and with a clear winner. There remains another one in August.Who shall be the victor depends on who is running and how well they run. That is the bottom line.

1:34 Helmite. The difference, moron, is that Helm is 0 for Forever. Winning percentage of .000
Posted by: | March 26, 2008 at 01:56 PM
It serves St. Petersburg City Council member Earnest Williams right to come in last. He is one of the fatcats that have been responsible for the local government drunken spending at taxpayer's expense.
Posted by: | March 26, 2008 at 02:46 PM
Congratulations to Darryl Rouson. He helped put the tax swap amendment in for the November elections with the tax & budget committee.

You morons voted for a former crackhead republican who went bankrupt and wanted midtown to leave the city of stpete. This is what "south" st.pete considers a "role" model. Congrats idiots. You get what you deserve by voice of your vote.
Posted by: Smarter than you | March 26, 2008 at 09:45 PM
9:45 Rouson has done more for South St. Pete than you ever dreamed of. Keep running your ignorant mouth, the people of District 55 have spoken quite clearly.
Posted by: | March 26, 2008 at 10:25 PM
10:25 You mean like filing for bankruptcy so the rest of us could pay his debts in one way or another?
Posted by: Smarter than you | March 27, 2008 at 07:27 AM
yo buzz - ever set foot in a journalism class? he won the PRIMARY not the district as your headline implies
Posted by: | March 27, 2008 at 09:36 AM
Another "Landslide" victory in St. Pete with a 27-voter turnout!
Go get 'em Daryl... they'll never know what you're doing anyway.
Apathy Wins Again!

I am no more supportive of Mr. Rouson, than I am of his ability to change political parties to serve himself!
No doubt, this will be another giant step BACK for Florida African Americans, when this so-called, Legislator, assuming that he makes it to the Legislature ascend. Evident of things to come his unexplained absence last week on a key vote! For the other AfrAms, that look to this political lizard to bring the right priorty and agenda to the Legislature at a time when we need it most, I am deeply sorry.
Any AfrAm, male myself included that intentionally gets himself arrested to prove a point, what are you trying to convey to our young men, who WE are trying desperately to keep out of jail?
District 55, please do not feel bad, for he pulled the wool over my eyes as well, until, I recognized his flaws! Stop supporting him, and he will again, change political parties. Is that what you voted for?
