Storms' evolution measure OK'd
The Senate's committee on K-12 education voted 4-1 Wednesday to approve Sen. Ronda Storms' bill to protect teachers who offer alternative theories to evolution and students who offer other theories. Only Sen. Ted. Deutch opposed it, despite criticism from some science instructors and the ACLU.

Why don't we expand the letter grading scale from A-F to A-G?
That way, the students who just want to chalk everything up to God's mysterious ways can get a "G" for a grade.

and will we also be "protecting" teachers who "belive" 1+1 is 3.7?
how tragic that sound education is sacrificed to the ahistoricalevangelicaldumbdamentalists of this state and legislators who are afraid of those mopes who simply are not capable of comprehending holy scripture!!

In the history of Science vs Religion, how many times has Religion been right? Earth was once the center of the Solar System...remember that? Just because we cannot necessarily explain why something happens, that doesn't mean God or some heavenly body controls it. It's only a matter of time before mysterious events are explained by science. This is just one more thing the church is wrong about in it's long history of being wrong.

What took so long for the anti-Christian hate club to respond? Was the Darwinist Society out looking for the missing link this afternoon or trying to find the original amoeba that started the universe.
If evolution is such a great theory it should be able to hold up against academic evaluation and debate.

It does hold up against evaluation and debate. The vast majority of scientists believe in evolution. Like I said before, where is the scientific evidence behind the bibles view of the creation of the Earth? Creation and ID say that since we can't explain everything about evolution and the Earth, there must be some superior intelligence doing it. The truth is that just because something can't be explained right now, doesn't mean it's God work. Science discovers and explains new things every year that were once thought to be the work of a greater power by the Church. There is a history in this world of Church trying to hold back science because the Church knows that has science advances, its just less things that can be attributed to the work of God...and if God isn't as powerful as once thought, there will be less followers. I'll rely on science because it always wins out eventually.

Could someone tap Rhonda on the shoulder and explain that we need her to focus on real issues facing Florida and get her help on the budget crisis?
Maybe Rhonda should get more indignant about the teachers who are boffing their students in hotel rooms?

Another reckless bill from ideologue Rhonda Storms.
Her bill had to be amended so that it wouldn't protect those who would teach the Holocaust never happened.
Smooth move, Storms. Glad you are hard at work at reducing my insurance and taxes.

Storms is nothing more than a right-wing fanatic. The people should wake up and realize who they are voting for and stop this type of crap or else pretty soon all we will be left with for our kids will be Ronda's Religious Philosophy 101.

Religion belongs in church (or whatever your house of worship). Let it intrude anywhere else and you have trouble, division, distortion and nonsense.

Evolution seems to be doing fine. How's creation holding up against academic evaluation and debate?

Thank you Ronda! As a science teacher and a member of The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, I will finally be able to teach my view of evolution without fear. For more information about FSM: http://www.venganza.org/.

I am tired of the Christian Fundamentalist Traditionalist non-thinkers insisting our schools teach fairy tales.
