"Hidden agenda" behind block of Swiftmud boss?

Somebody in Tallahassee doesn’t like Dave Moore. This week, the Senate Ethics and Elections Committee confirmed the appointment of the executive directors of four of the state’s five water management districts. But the fifth one -- Dave Moore of the Southwest Florida Water Management District -- didn’t even make it on the agenda.

The committee’s chairman, Sen. Lee Constantine, R-Altamonte Springs, said Moore’s confirmation was being held up at the request of another senator, but he didn’t know who.

“It was a request of the fourth floor -- the senate president’s office,” Constantine said. “They said a senator had requested it.”

Moore, facing the possible loss of the job he has held for five years, did not respond to a request for comment Friday. But water district board member Neil Combee said it appeared to be a signal of someone’s displeasure with Moore.

“Sometimes messages are sent, and sometimes they’re subtle or not so subtle,” the longtime Polk County political activist said. Another board member, former Manatee County commissioner Pat Glass, blamed “a hidden agenda” involving the deal Tampa is trying to cut with phosphate giant Mosaic to sell it the city’s reclaimed water.

Moore had already been confirmed by another Senate committee the week before. The Senate Environmental Preservation and Conservation Committee voted for him 5-0 on April 17

I think they plan to put somebody from Nestle N. America S.A. on the board instead of Dave.

4:57 - You are so perceptive.

I'm guessing they ain't mad at you, Moore - they just want somebody else - THEIR somebody else.

It has nothing to do with Moore. The Senate has gone total corrupt. They pick those that fit the bill. The ones that have EARNED the position. if you know what I mean. The people are so busy with trying to keep their homesand staying alive that they have no clue what is going on. The media, the paper media is dying a slow death, how unfortunate for real, they are not a public service. They are a competitive business that is struggeling to stay alive.

would hope the legislature would really take a hard look at the entire swiftmud arrangement! as i understand it there are NO ELECTED OFFICIALS 0N THEIR REGIONAL BOARDS! IF THIS IS TRUE, WHERE IS THE OVERSIGHT?? YOU CAN TOSS OUT THE ELECTED OFFICIALS BUT WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT THE APPOINTEES??????

They should have done the same to all the WMDs and bring in "new" blood.

There is at least one "new blooded" member of the 5.

More conservatives, as in "conservation" are needed on the WMD Gov. Boards. Crist has done a good job of that so far.

Dave Moore is the reason the SWFWMD is one of the most envied water management districts in the State, he is respected through out the country and beyond. The Senate is going to play games and we are going to loose a very valuable asset. The minute the session ends, if not before, Moore will be inundated with job offers. The Senate can confirm Moore and do ONE POSITIVE THING this session!! Find a way to confirm Moore before the session ends!
