AFSCME to withdraw from voting lawsuit

Seems the League of Women Voters of Florida won't have one of the state's bigger employee unions helping it carry its complaint against the state over its enforcement of voter registration laws (see previous post here). American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, Council 79 (AFSCME), will be withdrawing as a plaintiff, union spokesman Doug Martin said Tuesday.

The reason? Martin told the Buzz the union's relationship with the governor is different than his predecessor, Jeb Bush, and it's not interested in being in litigation against Charlie Crist at this point.

Translation = CC can take it in the a** and not complain.

Joni why have you put an "H" in AFSCME?

so the AFSCME response as to why they are backing out seems to indicate a purely political reason and not any high minded "for the people" intention

are we then to deduce that other AFSCME litigations ARE purely politically motivated - hmm, thanks for the insight doug martin

And left out the F.

way to go AFSCME - Make sure everyone knows it is a partisan issue for you guys...

Either you believe in the position, or you don't... it shouldn't matter who the governor is...

Jeb despised State workers. Why shouldn't the despise him? Charlie has enormous respect for State workers. That's not political it is personal!

What respect does Charlie have for state workers? Huge numbers are going to be laid off after session to make sure there is plenty of money for CSX, Rubio's friends, Rubio's pork, an airport for St. Joe Paper Company, Toll roads through members' property, money for the everglades, etc.

There was plenty of $$$ for all of Charlies' out-of-state trips in his run for VP and for his $70,000 fuel cell, and for his solar water heater for the Governor's pool.

There was plenty of $$$ for his huge staff and their way over base salaries.

But for ordinary state workers - no raises, turn the ac to 78 in the summer and 65 in the winter (an no ac/heat after hours even when workers are required to put in extra time with no pay). And, he didn't fix KidCare - so state employees' kids who are financially eligible are still excluded by law (and NO, unlike the part-time members of the legislature who get FREE HEALTH INSURANCE - family plan - and FREE DENTAL INSURANCE - family plan - career service employees have to pay some for their own health insurance and quite a bit for the family plan and the entire cost for the dental plan).

Nope, the fix is in for the pork and the shaft is for state employees and those who desperately need their assistance.

the union is so political... all they care about is their own paychecksn and job security... their union members welfare isn't in their top 10
