Bipartisan support for semi-open primaries
Senate ethics and elections committee will consider on Tuesday a bill to sort of open up Florida's presidential primaries. Sen Paula Dockery's bill would allow those registered with no party affiliation to vote in either the Republican or Democratic presidential primaries.
Her bill has picked up an interesting team of co-sponsors: Democratic Senators Dave Aronberg, Larcenia Bullard, Charlie Justice and Republican Senators Mike Bennett, Jim King, Alex Villalobos, Charlie Dean, Rudy Garcia, Dennis Jones.

"Bipartisan" my a*s... The only thing "Bi" about you freaks is your sexuality. Now;
STOP DIVERTING ATTENTION AWAY FROM YOUR LIES AND FAILURES, AND FIX INSURANCE LIKE YOU PROMISED.

BS! If you wanna vote in a party's primary then get off the d**n fence and register under that party.

Primaries are for parties to pick thier nominee. If you want to vote in a party's primary then pick a party and vote. If you want to stay "independent" then switch parties every 2 or 4 years.
Independents get to have their say in the general election.

I agree with 4:08. If you dont want to be part of a party, then you cant pick a nominee.

I use to be "Bipartisan"... but then get off the fence and become to full-blooded homertesticle!

That was a near complete list of Republicans in Name Only as Senate cosponsors. I hope cooler heads prevail before this might make it to the Governor's desk.

Don't worry, 4:41... even if it gets to Chuck's desk, he won't be there to sign it. Come to think of it; not sure if he even knows where his office is.

I am shocked at this Bi-partisan coalition.... NOT!!
Maybe we could have a third party in FL?
The "People's party"
Thanks but no thanks, we will keep the Republican primary separate.
Or as Chevy Chase said in Caddy Shack: "Thank you very little"

If you're bipartisan, do you have to join that Bacon, Lettuce, and Tomato Group in order to get married?

“Thanks but no thanks, we will keep the Republican primary separate.”
Now that’s the “Big Tent” Republicon Party we all know and hate!
“Everyone’s welcome… so long as you’re rich, white, pasty, old, fat, and a closet pervert.”

NO OPEN PRIMARIES!!!!
Posted by: | April 07, 2008 at 04:56 PM
NO OPEN SORES!!!!
... ewwwwwwwww
Posted by: | April 07, 2008 at 05:05 PM
exactly, if you want to vote in a party's primary become part of party
none of this on the fence crap
Posted by: | April 07, 2008 at 05:06 PM
most of the people with NPA don't register with a party EXACTLY because of the people on this thread. Only people that know how wrong they are would be so afraid of an independant thinker. Then again, i think every post so far would probably come back with a RPOF or DPOF ip address.
Posted by: | April 07, 2008 at 05:19 PM
the independents can get their own candidates
Posted by: | April 07, 2008 at 05:28 PM
Not so, 5:19. I simply think the nominees of the Party should be chosen by members of that Party, be they R, D, Green, Libertarian or whatever.
No slur on anyone posting, or what they happen to think.
I hope the Chairs of the respective parties step up and end this before it goes too far.

Wow, Dockery heading up another Democratic initiative. She's as left as they come. Oh, and she has Villalobos, Bennett, and Garcia? They're no better. Dockery, go home with your liberal BS.

4:54 Sure we are a big tent!
Our platform encompasses most American voters. We are pro-life, lower taxes, less government, strong military, patriotic people and yes we do believe in "One Nation under God."
If that tent is not big enough for you, find another party!
And if you're a RINO, please feel free to register elsewhere ASAP :)

It's not their party and they can cry if they want to!
NO OPEN PRIMARIES!
I think they have a "people's trans-partisan party" in California.
You can always GO WEST my friend!

The intolerance of the party faithful is the bain of good government. If any of you were to think for yourselves and not toe the party line, you'd realize most people hate politics and government because both major parties spend their time, energy and money trying to screw the other guy. That's why the fastest growing group of registered voters are the NPAs...

If this passes, the GOP will be hailed for our compassion and understanding. The press will finally see that we're not bad guys, we GOPers are good and nice. Can't you all see? This is what real republicanism is all about. Once the press likes us, we'll be able to lead for decades to come.

Ironic that for once we can count on the House to kill silly ideas like this.

Dockery's bill is nuts. So if you choose to belong to a party, then you should be able to choose that party's nominee? Dockery is liberal and nuts. Time for her to go home.

Dockery is a total lib. Why does the Polk GOP not do something about it? That local group must be as inept as she is. Thanks Paula, now go fight commuter rail or something.

Mr. President & Mr. Speaker:
This is a bad bill both for Republicans and Democrats and you should encourage the members of your chambers to vote it down. Florida Primary Elections should remain closed.
I yield the remainder of my time.
Thank you
