Florida Senate bans 'truck nutz'
The bill that makes hanging "truck nutz" from your car a moving violation passed the Senate by 37-2 with Republican Sen. Bill Posey and Democrat Sen. Frederica Wilson voting against it.
Click here to read our January 2005 story about the, um ... truck "taters" phenomenon.

So they have no problem expanding 2nd Amendment rights with guns at work, but want to restrict 1st.
Don't be surprised if an earthquake befalls Virginia. It won't be because of fault lines, but Jefferson spinning in his grave.

I honestly can't believe the Legislature wasted my tax money on this ridiculousness. It's appalling really.
Posted by: | April 23, 2008 at 12:14 PM
Ridiculous. Outlandish. A joke.
Posted by: | April 23, 2008 at 12:21 PM
That's just great. NOW how am I going to identify ignorant ochrenecks with sexual insecurity issues?
Posted by: | April 23, 2008 at 12:31 PM
Easy - look for the 10 Nascar stickers, 20 Support the Troops magnets, a Bush-Cheney '04 bumper tag and Yosemite Sam mudflaps.

Where did people ever get the idea that the 1st Amendment states that we can do whatever we want no matter how annoying and disgusting it is to anyone else? You 1st Amendment nuts should also remember that we are a country that is ruled by the people...and if most people in Florida (which I am sure they are) are against these truck balls, then you can to another state or country or wherever they are popular if you feel the need to be around them. I totally support your right to do so....

The only people who drive with those things on are a**holes. Since we can't pass a 'no a**holes driving' law, we have to take them out one-by-one by selectively taking away the things that make them a**holes. I wasn't rooting for this to pass, but I'm not going to root against it now that it has either.
Posted by: | April 23, 2008 at 12:47 PM
Congrats rednecks, your trucks just all got a vasectomy.

Corporate Welfare (CSX)… 700-million tax dollars
Pandering to crackhead parents… 8-million tax dollars
False imprisonment… 1.25-million tax dollars
Insurance Industry pass… 12-million in campaign donations
Baggy Pants… freaking ridiculous
Gun-to-Work… useless
Truck Nuts... good Lord!
Pandering Apology… meaningless
Bestiality ban… a bummer for several Legislators
Florida’s housing market… through the floor
Florida’s economy… crashing, and fast
Florida’s Governor… taking a photo somewhere
Voting every one of these useless, self-serving, corporate puppets out of office on our first available chance… abso-freaking-lutly priceless.

The mind boggles at how they must have described them in the legislation. I hope we don't waste tax dollars with court cases on what does and doesn't qualify.

Thank you to the men and women that serve our State for setting some standards. It's about time the residents of Pinellas County address the issues with our children - bad parents and some adults are setting poor examples. I too look for the vehicles with the excessive stickers, the drivers throwing their smokes out the windows polluting our nation, and the large SUV's sucking up our national fuel reserves. At 35mpg, I hope the gas goes to $4.50 so we take more of the SUV's and large trucks off our roads.

What if mine are not “truck nuts”… what if they are a representation of the need for more attention and research into the growing problem of (GCSSM) or “Gravitationally-Challenged Senior Sweater Monkeys”… do I have to remove them?
Posted by: | April 23, 2008 at 12:59 PM
What if I’m offended by those bumper stickers that just say “W”… talk about a sack.
Posted by: | April 23, 2008 at 01:01 PM
Like CliffordRH, I too like to randomly discriminate against people without any facts. This is what makes America great.
A clue for you Cliff. The men and women who "serve" our state do NOT set standards. We The People do.
You are hurting my brain.

Hey, I am just an average citizen trying to increase my carbon footprint... two SUV's - neither gets over 13 mpg in the city... my boat which consumption is guaged by gallons per hour... I do have a motorcycle though and it gets good gas mileage.
Anywho, I was going to cut down a tree in my yard this year, but decided against it so I could get a credit for my carbon...

I can see it now, truck with hanging "women genetalia", since the bill only bans "male" genetalia. Say welcome to "truck c%&nts"! Do we now see how stupid and a waste of time this is. Dont we have bigger problems to address.
Posted by: | April 23, 2008 at 01:13 PM
1:13 - don't discriminate against camels
Posted by: | April 23, 2008 at 01:15 PM
I make no apology for voting for this outstanding piece of legislation. After reviewing the evidence produced by a panel of specialists hired to study the issue and after several dinner meetings to discuss it, prior to a few hours of floor discussion, I found it in the best interest of my contributors...er...constituents to lobby for its passage.

if your actually think and believe your TEN-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER doesnt already know about "those things" (and the rest of the package) YOU ARE COMPLETELY DELUSIONAL AND A FAILURE AS A PARENT!!
Posted by: | April 23, 2008 at 01:43 PM
Are you kidding me we are trying to cut spending everywhere. The school Budget is getting cut 6% but they seem to find enough money to take our freedom of expression away over something like this. Soon we will be invaded to remove our horrible dictator and restore our freedoms.
Posted by: JJJ | April 23, 2008 at 02:02 PM
i will be designing and selling a truck pen|s that does not violate the statute...stay tuned...it will spit white soap and won't be terribly offensive

Posted by: Big Balls | April 23, 2008 at 02:16 PM
Wow! I'm so glad our state doesn't have any significant problems so that the members have so much time to address issues like these!!!
They must have already solved the budget, property taxes, property insurance, PIP, education - WHAT - they DIDN'T????
Everyone one of the jerks who voted for this should refund their entire salary and benefit package for this fiscal year.
Remember this November and FIRE these JERKS!!!!
Posted by: | April 23, 2008 at 02:21 PM
Great - now lets move on tattered American flags flying from the back of pick ups and SUV's. The flag isn't your soap box - show it a little more respect!
Posted by: Kenneth | April 23, 2008 at 02:21 PM
It is silly to pass another law, we can't enforce the ones we got now.
Plus, our government is a republic and the majority does not rule.
Posted by: Rosie | April 23, 2008 at 02:25 PM
It appears the the TruckNutz manufacturing folks weren't able to form a Political Action Committee quickly enough to bribe..er, influence, yeah, that's right, INFLUENCE our respected lawmakers into shooting down that particular piece of legislation. What a colossal and embarassing waste of taxpayer money.
Posted by: Cane9man | April 23, 2008 at 02:37 PM
It is a shame that society can't enforce some restrictions on those among us who behave offfensively. That's why everything has to be passed into law. If decent law abiding citizens tell you that something is wrong - you should stop doing it! Then we wouldn't be wasting tax money on something so basic. Anyone heard of "indecent exposure"
Posted by: | April 23, 2008 at 02:42 PM
It is unfortunate our State Legislature has to deal with an issue like this. Good to see some common sense prevail in Tally. It is a shame that some people cannot be happy unless they are doing something that is uncalled for or basically offensive.
Now get back to property taxes and insurance!

what if your truck has an undescended testicle or even two?
is an half-empty or empty scrotum acceptable?
can you "show" a vascetomy scar?
clearly, no repiglican legislator can dangle a full brain case from their rear bumper, can she or he?
Posted by: | April 23, 2008 at 03:04 PM
2.15:
i believe a 'truck [weiner]' is redundant.
Posted by: | April 23, 2008 at 03:06 PM
are they only banned on trucks?
Posted by: | April 23, 2008 at 03:08 PM
With all the problems the State of Florida has this is one of the most important things for our senate to vote on??!!! I would think that there were more important things to worry about then a pair of nuts hanging off the back of a vehicle. I thought this was a free country.
Posted by: Papa Smurf | April 23, 2008 at 03:31 PM
2:42... You hit the nail right on the head! It is a shame.
Posted by: JP | April 23, 2008 at 03:32 PM
What if the ones I have on my truck are real? Ya know, the one’s I cut off the freak who tried to take them off my truck. Does that count?

To those of you whom agree with this terrible decision by big brother I have something between two nuts for you.
Posted by: | April 23, 2008 at 03:38 PM
What if I just hire me one of them homertesticles to jump out and bag my set, so you don’t have to see them while your sitting at a red light behind me.
And if your problem is that you can’t concentrate on your driving because you can’t keep you eyes off of my set while in motion… then perhaps you can apply for the job as well.
Posted by: | April 23, 2008 at 03:39 PM
What juvenile comments! Dangling an offensive representation of the male anatomy from your trailer hitch should not be protected under the First Amendment.
All you gitt'er-dones who think it is cool to decorate your trucks should watch out. You have just given the cops a legitmate reason to pull you over after you just finished a six-pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon at the job site.
Just take these danglers off of your truck and hang them from your front door like mistletoe. That way you and your family can enjoy them each time they walk in or out of your house.

San Ity
It offends me to see homosexuals displaying rainbow flags on their cars.
I think the Senate should make the display of such articles a moving violation as I find it offensive and do not believe it consittues expression of free speech.
What say you?

BANG-O-RANG, 3:57!
Posted by: | April 23, 2008 at 04:10 PM
omega83- Let's ban All flags and stickers, too. I'm sure you can find someone, somewhere that's offended by just about everything. While I'm not crazy about the whole testicle thing, I do wish our good people of this state would FOCUS on the Important issues. Can you all say TAXES and INSURANCE?
Posted by: Kathryn | April 23, 2008 at 04:10 PM
Kathryn, you are right, we should tax people who want to display them, and require them to carry insurance - you know, for when they distract someone else from driving...
