Hire a son of Congressman Young, get money?
Two sons of U.S. Rep. C.W. Bill Young work for Pinellas County companies that have received millions of dollars in federal money thanks to the congressman.
Patrick Young, 20, is a security administrator in the downtown St. Petersburg office of Science Applications International Corp. and another son, Billy Young, 23, is an outreach specialist with National Forensic Science Technology Center. Both employers are big beneficiaries of Rep. Young, a senior Republican from Indian Shores who has been chairman of the powerful House Appropriations Committee and is now the top-ranking Republican on its defense subcommittee. He has used his clout to steer millions of dollars to his sons' employers, both before and after they got their jobs. Read it here.

Is anyone really surprised by this...

Had enough yet?
Posted by: | April 09, 2008 at 10:19 AM
Does anyone care...it's plain to see that the companies received money both before and after they were hired. I guess they can't make Young look bad on his own so they try and get him anyway they can.
Posted by: AJS | April 09, 2008 at 10:22 AM
AJS is clearly one of CW's punk staffers paid to spin quickly.

"Two sons of U.S. Rep. C.W. Bill Young work for Pinellas County companies that have received millions of dollars in federal money thanks to the congressman."
Merikun Politics at its best!... nuff said.

Not a staffer, I do work for the government though. Just a guy who knows a BS hit piece when he sees one....

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON WITH THE SPT?? POYNTER INSTITUTE WHERE ARE YOU???
Posted by: | April 09, 2008 at 10:37 AM
AJS... ummmmm... Hahahahahahaaaaaa... ohhh that's rich... hahahahahahha... only staffers call fact a "hit piece"... hahahahahahaaaaaaa... whoooooo, what a freaking hoot.... hey, cw!!! how about a little bacon for the homeless veterans you care so much about... they could use a job...
... pathetic
Posted by: | April 09, 2008 at 10:38 AM
WOW… those CW-ites really swing (or should I say spin) into action when the bacon fat gets exposed.
Posted by: | April 09, 2008 at 10:41 AM
Well 10:38, the only facts I see are that the companies received money before and after they were hired. To put it out like something sinister is going on is the definition of hit piece....
Posted by: AJS | April 09, 2008 at 10:47 AM
AJS, the only facts you see are the ones you puppet masters tell you to see.
If you actually believe they’re not connected in any way, you are in for a world of hurt in you life young man.
Posted by: | April 09, 2008 at 11:12 AM
Well 11:12, I also believe we really did land on the moon and UFO's aren't real. But I guess you conspiracy nuts would call me "naive". Tell us all again about George Bush and 9/11????
Posted by: AJS | April 09, 2008 at 11:36 AM
So when the Fed injects money into the banking sector, does the Times write a piece on how Chelsea Clinton worked for McKinsey and now Aventure, 2 hedge funds that directly benefit from federal monetary intervention?
Posted by: | April 09, 2008 at 11:40 AM
Bill Youngs sons have a right to work and it makes sense that those boys grew up in the defense atmosphere that they would choose that field. Federal money has also gone to grocery stores. So if they worked for a grocery store, I guess they would have been hired because of their dad. How about if they were farmers? Farmers have gotten major relief money. I guess the St. Pete Times would feel they shouldn't be farmers either. Young has been in almost 50 years. I am sure he has helped almost every business in Pinellas County. So I guess his sons should just move out of the county to appease the Times. How about Hospitals, he has given them money also. And the military. His son served in Army or some branch. Did they let him ENLIST because his dad gave them money. get real.
Posted by: | April 09, 2008 at 12:14 PM
the Times has hit an all time low. I guess sales are down. Would they like it better if Youngs sons were on welfare and lived in housing projects at the expense of the taxpayer? I bet they would go after them for that also. Shame on you, Times. Trying to get headlines off of young adults making their own way. IF you don't like their dad, that's one thing, but trying to hurt and humiliate his kids for working is despicable. I wonder if the authors have children?
Posted by: | April 09, 2008 at 12:18 PM
That's the Republican Party - making sure that while they're turning the "middle class" into the "working poor" that they "take care of their own."
Posted by: | April 09, 2008 at 12:20 PM
John McCain's sons work for the US Navy and US Marine Corps.
When he votes on the defense budget, is that a conflict of interest?
Posted by: | April 09, 2008 at 12:20 PM
It's o.k. for Chelsea to work for a hedge fund that received money. She is a democrat which makes it o.k. and her mommy and daddy have made over 100 million dollars since they started representing "the people". I agree with 11:40 - Where's that story?

Gene Smith: I think it's time to start on your son, what do you think?
Posted by: | April 09, 2008 at 12:22 PM

Thank God for CW, or we’d all be dead.
Vote for CW, or Osama Been Forgotten will attack us.
Stay Vigilant, and give me pork.
Screw Jesus, CW walks on water too.
Who cares how many veterans are homeless, so long as my boys have jobs.
What can we name after me next?
CW = Christian and White, and that = Republican Leadership, and that = Corporate welfare, no matter the human cost.

12:23 the Clinton's are allowed to make their own money and have done so. They filed income tax - paid over 33 million dollars to IRS and gave away 10 million to charity. They can support their daughter just like any other American. Do you really think that's evil or are you just desperate?
12:20 -your statement is the perfect description of what a true Conservative is. " I got mine and now I'm going to take yours."
Bill Young has a lot to answer for. I do not believe he turned his back on the vets and Walter Reed, but this business about his sons and their respective jobs is a clear indicator that he has his hand in the till. Time to go Bill. This time it will be a rough ride to reelection regardless of your previous reputation. You have stayed too long at the party....
Posted by: | April 09, 2008 at 12:45 PM
12:45
the reference to Chelsea had nothing to do with the Clinton's right to make money.
It has to do with her hiring by firms who have donated big bucks to her mother's campaign and who are regulated and assisted by the federal government
Posted by: | April 09, 2008 at 12:48 PM
The company Chelsea works for does not benefit from the death of Americans.

What's the matter Gene? Momma will only allow you to drink Kool-Aid so that's the only thing you can relate to? Ask your buddy Susan, maybe she will share the real thing with you. Probably not, but if you ask real nice, maybe.

Lets hail the Senator who isn't supposed to have outside income who came into the Senate with a very low financial statement and now is a multi millionaire. And your defending it? What part of stupid did your DNA come from? And your concern is that Youngs son work in his district. What a loser.

Times:
What about the railroad. I worked for the railroad and Young bailed them out, which allowed me to keep my job. And I helped my son and daughter get jobs there also. Would it be o.k. with you if his sons worked for the railroad because he gave them money? You should be ashamed of yourselves for what you just tried to pull. Hey… we can build the CW Bill Young Homeless Veteran’s Shelter right next to the 3rd CW Bill Young Government Building from the left, located on the northeast corner of CW Bill Young Street and CW Bill Young Avenue. That’s just over the CW Bill Young bridge and past the CW Bill Young trail… just take CW Bill Young Road and head south until you pass our economy… it’s pretty far down there.

Posted by: AJS | April 09, 2008 at 05:11 PM
I want in. I work at Bay Pines VA. Young has dumped a lot of money in there. Guess his kids can't work for the VA system either. It would be corrupt. Maybe they can work for The Army Corps of Engineers.
Build some bridges, build some roads. Nope, they can't work there either.
Posted by: | April 09, 2008 at 06:05 PM
For the idiot making drive through jokes. I am a waitress at Crabby Bills. I have been thinking about this. Youngs boys can't work at Crabbys either because one of the owners is involved with the Tourettes Foundation and Congressman Young has financially helped those poor kids out. So if they worked there it would be because Young helped out the owners. See where we are headed here, Times? For those who want to make a snide remark, Tourettes is a debilatating disease that has no cure and is horrific.

btw... you'll never get daddy's seat cause it isn't his to begin with. Contray to the bedtime stories he's told you boys.

Anybody ever tell you boys that we taxpayers are sick of you double, triple, and hierloom dippers?
Posted by: | April 09, 2008 at 11:38 PM
I drive a bus for Pinellas Transit. Kids can't work there either. Whoever wrote this should be proud. I think Vince Foster, deceased, democrat, said "Destroying peoples lives is a sport". Well, authors of this story, you won'thurt Senator Young, but you sure are working hard at destroying young men who will one day be responsible for your future. Authors, byline writers, or whatever you call yourselves, I have one question? Are you Christians? IF so, you need to Dig, Dig, Dig into your bible. You are not very nice people.
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 02:13 AM
"Thanks for the contract, Congressman."
"You are welcome...by the way, my son is looking for a job.."
This likely scenario is somewhat different from Chelsea Clinton with her Stanford degree taking a job comparable to other Stanford grads.
Posted by: mady | April 10, 2008 at 08:12 AM
Why is it different Mady? One has a high security clearance and that's why he was hired. The other has a degree from USF and has, what seems to be, an entry-level job.
Posted by: AJS | April 10, 2008 at 08:19 AM
I wonder if CW's boys have stock in these companies?
I wonder why they decided to invest in these companies?
I wonder how much that stock has increased since the war has gone on?
I wonder if insider trading happens at the government level?
I wonder if the media will look into that?
I wonder why our country is broke, but its leaders are rich?
I just wonder….
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 09:04 AM
I sure wish I could get a job, any job! I am a disabled veteran. Economy is really bad! I need a job.
Posted by: Gilbert | April 10, 2008 at 09:40 AM
9:04:
No they don't have stock in these companies. They didn't invest in these companies, they applied for jobs they were qualified for, and got them.
The Youngs are not rich. Look at their financial statement.
Mady:
Just because Chelsea graduated from Stanford, doesn't make her smarter or better than anyone else. Maybe Daddys millions had something to do with that? No we wouldn't want to think a democrat would buy their kids way into Stanford, would we. Poor kids with 4.2 GPA's can't get into Stanford. Daddys money did some walking and some talking. At least Pat went to tech. schools and trade schools to learn his job. The honest way.
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 09:51 AM
11:29 pm, you are ignorant. why are you jealous the young boys had "bedtime stories"? is it because your father left you and the only bedtime stories you had were the sound of your little tears hitting the pillow?
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 09:51 AM
Has any of these sarcastic bloggers ever considered the fact that the son with the bachelors degree from one of the greatest colleges around, USF, applied for his job on merit and got it? No, that wouldn't feed Bill Adairs lust for headlines. Need headlines, need headlines, at the expense of anyone, need headlines! Now there's a guy who needs a job.
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 09:54 AM
9:04 am, NFSTC is a non-profit, read the trash adair wrote its clearly in there. they have no stock. now see, if you were smart enough to understand that a non-profit doesn't have stock then YOU might be able to get a descent job. but as long as you have the iq of a 3rd grader, stick to peddling for cash on the side of 19.
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 09:54 AM
11;29:
You obviously slept through your bedtime stories. It is Young's seat and has been for 48 years. What century are you living in.
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 09:58 AM
NFSTC helps exonerate people like Allan Crotzer. Perhaps sending them federal and state assistance is good public policy?
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 09:58 AM
Wow, the Young boys are on thier morning break I see!
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 10:01 AM
9:58, even if a company is good the liberal fish wrapper a.k.a. st pete times wouldn't say anything good about them if young or one of his boys were involved, god knows the times doesnt understand unbiased and fair reporting!
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 10:02 AM
who is Adair? Obviously the author of this rag he calls journalism. It seems he s angry probably because his stocks failed. Maybe he should call Chesea, she can give him some hedge fund tips.
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 10:02 AM
Hey Gilbert, why don't you call Young's office? I am sure they would be willing to help you in your job search. They are always willing to help veterans find work that they are qualified for. Give it a try.
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 10:04 AM
10:01 am is on their morning break i see, no wait, they are on their welfare break. hey you need the young boys to work and pay taxes so you don't have to work, a**
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 10:07 AM
10:01:
Do you know how stupid you sound? Do you think the Young boys would lower themselves to promote this rag? You must be Susan. K. Smith, the 5:00 somewhere lady that has issues stemming back from childhood. Young raised his children better than that. They are well aware of the capabilities of the likes of Adair. They are aware that "ruining peoples lives is a sport" (author democrat Vince Foster before he killed himself)

Gilbert:
If your a vet everyone knows Mrs. Young will help you , if she can. That's the Youngs, willing to help out, anytime.

In need of a bedtime story because you were neglected as a child? I admire Young for telling his boys bedtime stories. I wish my Dad would have found time to read me bedtime stories.

I said I would never post on this, but I am going to. I am a pediatric nurse who 23 years ago cared for one of Youngs sons who had to be resuscitated twice before he was 2 months old. I distinctly remember how awesome it was that Congressman Young called his little boy every night and told him bedtime stories over the phone from Washington until he fell asleep. The vicious remarks are so unnecessary.

haha to the guy who called the young boys "wuss", apparently you have never met them. while you may be able to beat them in a world of warcraft battle, im guessing your wiery 5'5" frame would take a licking in real life. stick to warcraft battles because you know you lose fights in person, even to your little sister.

BREAKING NEWS!
“Florida on the fast track to having the worst education system in the country.”
“Jeb did his best to get us there, but we still have much work to do if we want to reach our goal of “Worst”… said State Legislators… “We got some devious plans to deal with the people’s demand for fiscal responsibility.”
When asked why Legislators are spending millions in tax dollars on corporate welfare to CSX and defense contractors, while letting education go by way of our economy and veterans sleep in the streets, Legislators said, “Hey, our kids got to work somewhere, why not the rail yard… I mean, we all can’t work for defense contractors, like the Young boys.”
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 10:42 AM
Break's over boys, get back to work! Come on now, you know how this works... Americans die, veterans suffer, and we make a profit!
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 10:44 AM
well as far as the times is concerned they can't work at the rail yard either. If you knew your history, you would know Young saved Amtrak also. and both don't work for defense companies. You have no facts and no credibility. Young has helped almost every company in one way or another in his 46 years. Anywhere his kids work would be a conflict of interest to the Times. I am surprised they are not bitching over the fact that one of them went to USF, which receives federal funds. I guess those Young boys don't have a right to an education either, right Times? Keep trying to humiliate them and degrade them because you don't like their father. Shame on you. I am glad I don't subscribe to your rag.

10:44:
You are a pretty stupid woman Susan. You need to be writing to George Bush, not the St. Pete Times Blog. He is the one that has OUR boys, not yours of course because you are gutless, over in Iraq. He is the one that said "they will not be coming back from Iraq on my watch", not Young not any member of the United States Congress or Senate. Statement made solely by George Bush, the militarys Commander in Chief. Did you learn a new lesson today, Susan. Think before you speak.
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 10:52 AM
I wonder how Bill Adair would like it if someone wrote about his family? He will get his from God someday for throwing stones and judging others.
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 10:54 AM
"Tie yourself to a tree", you must be referring to Sam. IF she ties herself to a tree she has a reason not to raise her own grandson and give him up for adoption. "TREE - KID". she chose the tree.
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 10:54 AM
Damn, you Yong boys better lighten up or you’ll pop a blood vessel. Then, how are you going to take over for daddy and keep the corporate welfare a’goin! Your kids will need jobs to ya know.

How about some pork for a CW Bill Young home for the homeless veterans?
The boys can work there serving food and making beds!

Praise God.

10:57, why would the one with a college degree make beds for a living? and why would the one with a security clearance make beds for a living? why dont you come make my bed, jerk.
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 11:01 AM
why can't the homeless make their own beds? it's not like they'll be late for work if they stop to make their bed?
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 11:03 AM
10:57:
I know for a fact that the Young boys have served food to the homeless, changed beds and even changed colostomy bags. I know this because I was a Marine Lance Corporal and I was shot and critically wounded. Patrick and Billy Young both stayed at my bedside, slept in a chair next to my bed, so in the event I didn't make it, I wouldn't have died alone. They emptied my urinals and changed my colostomy bags and they were only 13 and 16 at the time. You should do the same. You are ingnorant.

... that's what we hire the darkies to do.
and why would the one with a security clearance make beds for a living?
... when he could be profiting from American deaths.
why dont you come make my bed, jerk.
... cause I don't know how... the darkies we hired did it.
... whitebread, elitist jerkweeds.

i ask the times to remove 11:25's ignorant comments. pure ignorance, i would hope even the times wouldn't stoop that low.
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 11:30 AM
oh, they would stoop that low.
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 11:36 AM
You boys better get back to work, or your bosses will make pops pony up some more of our taxes to keep you employed.

All you people on here blogging from the foxhole again about Iraq? The Young's have sons who have served in the military. The story points one out but leaves out the kids they have "adopted" as their own over the years. One Marine who has wounded (see his comments above) and one Soldier who served two tours in Iraq, among countless others. They have always been there (along with Billy and Pat), like any good family would.
Posted by: AJS | April 10, 2008 at 12:12 PM
I guess the boys join when they were... ummmm... 16?
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 12:36 PM
12:36, rob is 30, he served, including time in the middle east. go to hell, and get your facts straight. actually, just stay there. you are a disgrace to humans beings everywhere you stupid, ignorant, jerk.

My my, there are a lot of very passionate people posting here, from both perspectives. Bill Young is indeed an icon, and he should be honored for his service.
That said; it is time for him to let go, and go with grace. We simply cannot sustain a modern and functional government with 30-year old ideologies. Neither does our current economy allow for pork spending of any kind. If these organizations are truly necessary for the betterment of our military, then fund them accordingly, and not by way of earmarks (pork).
I don’t give a damn where his kids work, but to assert that there is no connection is purely naive. That’s all I have to say about that.
Congressman Young, as a District constituent, I thank you for your service and appreciate your efforts on our behalf. But I respectfully ask that you move on, so that our nation can as well. As a Democrat, I have supported you and voted for you many times. Of late, primarily due to the lack of substantive opposition. But I fear that too has run its course. Sometimes change must occur for the good of the whole, even if it comes at the price of a public servant with an honorable record. Please consider my thoughts, and again, thank you for your service.
May God bless you and yours.

hey 12:36, i bet when they were 16 they were smarter than you. moron.
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 12:53 PM
i am beginning to understand why 1236 parents hated them....
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 12:55 PM
I hope that Mr Young stays for a long time. His service has been great, and without him, Tampa Bay goes to the bottom of the barrel for receiving government support. trust me, i have lived in an area with young members, and you get NOTHING. The Congressman has done a great job, and i look forward to voting for him in 2008.
Posted by: Also Respectfully Offered | April 10, 2008 at 01:00 PM
pathetic morons... every damn one of you.
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 01:04 PM
Check that; except for 12:52 & 1:00
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 01:05 PM
respectfully yours:
boy you're a lucky guy. waiting in the wings is a tree hugger who gave her own grandchild up for adoption because she couldn't handle it and a millionaire freak who lands his plane on public highways at the risk of hurting innocent travelers for publicity. Yeah, I would worry about the old guy who knows what he is doing over the lucky two that will represent you. Samm Simpson is a nice person, but so far out there, she has no clue about anything.
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 01:08 PM
oh my god, you call Samm Simpson and Max Linn substansive competition. The county and country is in big trouble if either of those idiots gets in. but it would be fun to watch Rome tumble again at the expense of the dems.
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 01:10 PM
the liberals in pinellas need a wake up call. having bill young in office is the best thing for this area. you will understand once someone else represents the area someday.
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 01:11 PM
12:52:
save your slobbering. Young, or his staff, doesn't read blogs. they have better things to do. but Samm and Max read them. or have them read to them, in Samms case.
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 01:12 PM
One thing is for certain, while Congressman Young is indeed a class act, his surrogates fall desperately shot in that category. I offer a sincere comment, amongst ridiculous and insulting rants, and you respond with more ridiculous and insulting rants. Thank you for making my point.
Congressman Young, please leave with respect and grace, before these adolescents destroy your honor.
Posted by: Respectfully Offered | April 10, 2008 at 01:20 PM
what adolescents are you referring to respectively yours?

real intelligent YO MAMMA. can't believe the times would post something like that.
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 01:57 PM
You know, you learn in school that when writing a newspaper article, you should write it at a 6th grade level. The times has mastered this theory, except they write at about a 2nd grade level.
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 02:01 PM
Can’t say as I approve of the content, but that’s pretty damn creative.
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 02:19 PM
You can’t believe the Times would post anything that doesn’t kiss-up to your old man. Take a hike, junior… you’ve sucked off out teet long enough.
Posted by: YO MAMMA! | April 10, 2008 at 02:32 PM
Not to bright are you YO MAMMA, accusing Young's sons, lieing about them. unlike their father, legally, you are not allowed to say whatever you please about them, they are not public figures.
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 02:35 PM
What wouldn’t be “To Bright” is CW using his position and power, and exposing the political abuses to The Patriot Act. You remember that; The Patriot Act… supposed to be used to track terrorists, not to track Americans people who disagree with one’s political views. Fascism isn’t a good thing during an election year… so I’m told.
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 02:50 PM
2:50, the patriot act doesn't track americans unless they are acting shady. ofcourse liberals think people should be able to act shady.
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 02:53 PM
D.D.Deeeeeee! You pinheads are real winners. No wonder pops needed to buy you jobs.
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 03:01 PM
My Final plea,
Congressman Young, please leave with respect and grace, before your surrogates destroy your honor.
May God Bless.
Posted by: Respectfully Offered | April 10, 2008 at 03:06 PM
atleast they have jobs 3:01. atleast they aren't pathetic drains on society like you.
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 03:08 PM
3:01 the Pope called, he said he hates you worse than your mom does.
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 03:09 PM
ummmm... wow... just wow... now we know why tigers eat their young.
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 03:25 PM
respectfully Offered:
Why is is that you continue to insinuate that Bill Youngs children are on this blog. Have you been hired by Max Linn to continue this smear campaign. And attempting to come off as a gentleman, Save that too. No Gentleman would pick on children, be it his own, or anothers. Shame on you. You obviously don't have children.
Sir, You are no gentleman and don't worry about Mr. Youngs honor. He could care less about your opinion.
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 09:18 PM
respectfully offered:
You need to have God Bless you, you two faced piece of crap. And no, I am not one of the Young children. You don't obviously know them or anything about them. But Guess waht respectfully, God knows them and knows about them. And Surprise, he knows about you also.
Posted by: | April 10, 2008 at 09:19 PM
whoever said Susan Smith was ugly was way out of line. You owe her an apology. I know her personally, and she is not ugly, she is butt ugly.
Posted by: | April 11, 2008 at 12:05 AM
Respectfully offered. Young is a class act. Something you fall very short of.
Posted by: | April 11, 2008 at 12:06 AM
Respectfully offered. you don't know this family. They are close, they love each other and they have each others back. You telling him they will destroy his honor will make him laugh in your lonely face and black heart.
Posted by: | April 11, 2008 at 01:52 AM
Susan: I just bought a bottle of Remy. want to join me for a drink?
Posted by: | April 11, 2008 at 01:52 AM
This started because Rep. Young is defending the right of Congress to define how money is spent (see the US Constitution). The President started the fight in the State of the Union Address, and while he makes some good points, it is still the right of Congress to appropriate funds. If we are against this, then amend the constitution.
