House passes energy bill
The Florida House unanimously 108-0 passed its energy bill, sending it to the Senate, which is expected to take up the bill on Wednesday.
The bill takes many of Gov. Charlie Crist's executive orders and turns them into state law, except that some of the mandates will have to go back to the Legislature for ratification before they can be carried out by state agencies. The bill also contained lots of give-aways for utility companies seeking to lay their power lines.
"I think there is mischief in it, but I think its merit outweighs its mischief," said House Minority Leader Dan Gelber.
Bill sponsor Rep. Stan Mayfield, R-Vero Beach, said the bill had been well debated and "moves us way down the field on legislation with respect to energy....We retain the necessary requirements to bring it back to you, the Legislature for implementation and ratification. It strikes that balance."

I can't wait to pay bigger power bills for my future energy needs! I'm also looking forward to powerlines cutting across protected wildlife areas. What a great state we live in!

Yes, according to Christ's wonderful energy bill, soon we will be PAYING THE UTILITIES IN ADVANCE to trash our state.

Ronald Reagan was an idiot -- we pay daily for his ill thought legislation and impractical foreign policy
Posted by: | April 29, 2008 at 01:55 PM
Anther thing we can thank Reagan for. If it weren't for BUSH II, he would be THE WORST PRESIDENT EVER.
Posted by: Disgusting Republican | April 29, 2008 at 01:58 PM
Oh yeah, like the impractical foreign policy that spent the Soviet Union into oblivion? That impractical foreign policy?
And Reagan wasn't a legislator, so he couldn't have crafted any "legislation". Please read the US Constitution before spouting off your stupid crap.
My god some of you people are morons...

Too bad Jimmy Carter is not around to fix this energy problem. I am sick of hearing a bunch of whining democrats talk about gas prices etc. We need to drill in the GULF and in ANWAR. Also, the day has come for Nuclear Power. The Nimby's plan has failed. Build and drill where it is economically feasible now. Get on with progress and let the bedwetters hide in their favorite dark corner somewhere.
Posted by: | April 29, 2008 at 02:01 PM
Unfortunately Carter is still around, but he's far too busy making friends with terrorists and thug dictators to bothered with energy policy...
Posted by: | April 29, 2008 at 02:08 PM
What happened to Nancy Pelosi's "commonsense plan" to lower gas prices?
Gas prices have sky-rocketed since the Dems took over Congress.
Let's see that plan Nancy.

Things were different in Reagan's era. Roughly 25% of all of the oil burned in human history has been in the past 10 years, and the number of cars in the world is expected to double soon as more and more countries become highly developed.

2:01 etc etc Grover Norquist's obtuse neo-con blatherer has returned.
There's only one answer necessary for your "look how good the Republicans are doing" idiocy.
LOOK AROUND DUMB@SS!!!

How much money has Al Gore made off of "Global Warming"?
Posted by: | April 29, 2008 at 02:45 PM
2:01 As opposed to George W. Bush's foreign policy of "spending America into oblivion?"

2:40 #2 - geez, ever heard of a fact? all you do is point your finger at grover norquist for some reason one post after another without one fact to support your argu...heck you don't even put forth an arugment

Hell, i agree with you on that...Reagan never would have given the Iraqis a blank check for their reconstruction.
As far as i am concerned, the US taxpayers should own the oil fields in Iraq at least until the cost of reconstruction is paid for.

2:49 That's not true!
Here's my argument in a nutshell:
Grover Norquist is a prime example of conservatives who serve rich corporate masters while pretending to be serving the greater good. They are responsible for most of the bad policy enacted in this country since and including Reagan. Furthermore, arguing with you is a waste of time because you won't admit to even their most obvious failings, instead sliding away like a slug into some other out of context slogan that pushes peoples buttons but has no relation to reality whatsoever.
I've got an idea - investigate 2:49s blather for yourselves, if you want a good laugh. Most of the time you'll find him 180 degrees from the real truth.

"They are responsible for most of the bad policy enacted in this country since and including Reagan."
Such as...???
You see, this is not an argument, this is an allegation...an allegation which is not backed up by any facts presented.
Please enlighten us with all of your infinite wisdom.

3:12 "You see, this is not an argument, this is an allegation...an allegation which is not backed up by any facts presented."
You see, this someone who won't take a honest look around, see how bad the situation is, and admit to the obvious - it's the mainly the result of conservative policy.
They've been running the show, they had everything their way for six straight years, and they've run the economy into the ground, spent us into a huge deficit, and destroyed any claim our country may have had to support freedom and democracy.
Now budk up, swallow the bitter pill, and admit it. Don't compound your mistakes by telling even more lies.

YEP, IT ISN'T ENOUGH THEY ARE TAXING US INTO THE POOR HOUSE JUST SO THEY CAN GIVE A BILLION OF OUR DOLLARS TO FOR PROFIT CORPORATIONS.
IT WASN'T ENOUGH THAT THEY'VE CAUSED OUR PROPERTY INSURANCE PREMIUMS TO GO THROUGH THE ROOF!
IT WASN'T ENOUGH THAT THEY RAISED THE COST OF PIP!!
IT WASN'T ENOUGH THAT THEY LINE THEIR POCKETS WITH THEIR PORK PROJECTS!!
NO, NOW THEY HAVE TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY RAISE OUR UTILITY RATES TOO!!
Kick everyone of these thieves out of office - every single one of them that is up for re-election - SEND THEM HOME. THE REPUBLICANS NEED TO LEARN A LESSON - THEY DIDN'T LEARN IT IN CONGRESS SO THE LESSON NEEDS TO BE BROUGHT HOME - VOTE ANTI-REPUBLICAN IN THE NEXT ELECTION!!!!
Posted by: | April 29, 2008 at 03:37 PM
No, no, no...
You see it was not fiscal conservative policy that was enacted the last 18 or so years, shortly after Reagan left office. That was the problem.
We saw high taxes and high spending during Bush 41 and Clinton years. Then we saw lower taxes but still more spending under Bush 43. It's the spending that will inevitably bankrupt the country if we continue with the entitlements that we have no means of paying for.
It definitely won't be fixed by a Democrat, and i have my doubts as to whether it will be fixed by a Republican. This country cannot sustain itself when people are beholden to their respective party.

Fine - just vote ANTI-INCUMBENT or for the opposition party for any termed out member!
Don't give one penny to a campaign. Write, e-mail, and call the Governor to VETO the budget.
Let the Repiglicans remember how it feels to be the minority party and perhaps they'll quit offering greedy thieves as their candidates!

3:07 - do you know how to put forth an argument, some facts? all you did was throw down allegations and a bunch of name-calling not the same thing - let me guess you're a junior in high school? or you're a college kid majoring in pottery? i ask because you clearly have no critical thinking skills.
but keep it up - you and CAPS!!!!!GUY are hilariously stupid and make me laugh every time i read your drivel.

4:07 Insult me all you want - At least you're not telling the usual lies about gov't policies - a step in the right direction!
Posted by: | April 29, 2008 at 04:21 PM
4:07 - oh no problem, i can talk all day about the government policies that are lies - the policies that have good intentions and hellish results - the policies that under the guise of collective good actually attack and demean the individual and deny liberty - nah, on second thought, i don't feel like wasting my breath on you

3:32. It's an honor to have Jimmy carter post on this site. If R.R. continued to follow your policies, the U.S.S.R. would be way ahead of us. Time for you to take a lesson in 20th Century history, because those that forget history are doomed to repeat it. R.R new what had to be done. It's unfortunate that neither party today has any clue on what needs to be done. But don't buck a dead man who can't defend himself. You open the door to attacks on yourself when you stoop to such shallow tactics as that.
