Measure to stop future 'double dippers' killed
A panel of senators killed, by a 4-1 vote, a watered-down measure that would have prevented some state employees, judges and elected officials from collecting both a pension and their salary at the same time.
Republicans Senators Steve Oelrich and Charlie Dean who are collecting their pensions and a state legislative salary both voted against it. So did Republican Sen. Jim King and Democratic Sen. Al Lawson.

Ohhhh, "do nothing Dean" voted against it??? Big surprise!!! By the way, has Do Nothing done anything this session? That is, anything useful????

Buncha blooming thieves - - - meanwhile ---
The Florida Senate voted 23-to-14 (largely along party lines) to cut back on the type of services Medicaid covers to cut general revenue expenses by roughly half a billion dollars.
The bill limits Medically Needy program to pregnant women and children on Nov. 1 of this year. It stops Medicaid coverage for dental services for adults on Sept. 30th. It stops Medicaid coverage for hearing aides on Oct. 1.

Ummmm, isn't that a conflict of interest to have senators who themselves are "double dippers" voting on a bill to restrict or abolish "double dippers" ??????

They have plenty, plenty money to give Rubio's friend a $265 million contract, give Rubio's half-brother a job in the Senate, and fund Rubio's pork project back in Miami. They have enough money to give CSX $700 million dollars. So what if they have to lay of child abuse investigators, and cut services to the Medically needy.
And you think these people with these morals are going to do anything that will cost THEM money???? Dream on!!!!!

so taking the pension you earned as PROMISED to you when you started working and then collecting $30 grand a year because your community voted that you should represent them in Tallahassee is wrong? The America I knew and loved is slipping away more and more each day.
And 5:57 (Doster) Whether you like it or not, Dean has been a pretty good Senator so far and is a key vote on many issues.

I wish the budget were that simple. I work with plenty of needy and abused kids and also have a history in government budgeting. The harsh true is that they could eliminate all the employees and salaries in the Legislature and Executive Branch and the projects you listed and they'd still be a few billion dollars short this year and next. It really is that bad.

Imagine that, legislators actually stepping up to the plate to support people like Lucy Morgan who are receiving an EARNED pension, but who decide to continue working... even if it is in the same field they previously worked in.

Well...they did take the gutless step of cutting their salary and that of the Governor and Cabinet...a pitiful gesture that raises a whopping $600,000...never mind that most that voted for the cut will term out and will be unaffected by the cut. Why do they insist on such pathetic pandering yet fail to take actions that will have a serious impact on the budget...this pay cut amounts to .000009 % of the budget....yipee!

The best way to have a say is to right down these crooks names and take the sheet of paper with you to the polls. It works. These people are out! Just puttin them on notice!

oh shut up 7:47 - obviously nothing is good enough for you - i bet you were the one on the blog that was crowing that they should take the lead and cut their salaries - now that they do, in typical dimocrat fashion you move the goal posts again

What’s this I hear… Hannibal Lector refuses to close the cannibalism loophole!
Why… I never expected that!
Good God people… get off your as*ses on Election Day and clean every last one of these unscrupulous criminals out. From Congress, to the Senate, to our State Houses… all the down and through the local drunken sailors… and boot the dogcatcher to the curb while you’re at it.

I wish Lucy would be the one covering CSX. She could probably unearth a few things.

I wish Lucy would cover Dockery, maybe she'd spend less time in her big houses in the islands and the mountains.

Today's antics by Dockery, Villalobos, and Do Nothing Dean are nothing more than sour milk- PLUS they lost.
It's just another failed attempt by Dockery to team with Democrats.

Do Nothing Dean and Paula are two peas in a pod.

The outcome of this bill was already predetermined. Politicians will NEVER vote to reduce their pay. Think of them as a species that will do everything possible to expand their domain. In fact, the Federal government has yearly escalators in their pay so they don't have to vote themselves raises every year. Why is this news?

Do Nothing Dean and Madame Whine-a-lot Dockery take the cake for all talk and no do. Ohhh, don't forget about their mentor- Demollobos.
