Tebow Fever in the Capitol
Lawmakers, Gator alums or not, are fawning this morning over Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow, who is being recognized in both chambers for his record-setting young football career and for his international missionary work.
Clad in a blue shirt and grey suit, the UF sophomore was all smiles as he stood next to Senate President Ken Pruitt and got the Senate's Medallion of Excellence.
"Thank you very much. Football is the game I love," Tebow said. "But more important than winning awards, football gives me a platform. In today's society, there are a lot of role models in football, but there aren't a lot of good role models. My prayer... is to be a good role model. ... We are a nation in need of character. I encourage you to do the same, because there are a lot of people watching you."
He recently became the first sophomore to win the Heisman, college football's highest honor.

Preston Parker is scheduled to be there at noon, I wonder what message he is going to convey.

Congratulations Gators on a great player and spokesman for our state. Well deserved recognition.
Governor, don't blow your meeting with him.

I would list all that are laughing at FSU this decade but there isn't enough bandwidth. Have fun hoping for a bowl invite next november.

10:51.... Hey Geno Hayes, I'm glad to see you're keeping up with the blogs

Humble and classy: subdues my Florida State hate.
terminator: refires it all over again. Oh yes, we WILL see you in Doak bubby. You that anxious to have 70 points hung on you at home?
Posted by: Cus | April 24, 2008 at 11:00 AM
Hey Terminator, how many years in a row will this be of UF beating FSU?? We had 4 losses last year, how many did you have?
Posted by: UF student | April 24, 2008 at 11:02 AM
Any chance you dope might get around to doing something about PROPERTY INSURANCE, LIKE YOU PROMISED!
RECALL THE WHOLE STINKIN LOT OF THEM!

gators (mindless reptiles):
you guys couldn't even win the Cap One bowl. give me a break.
so you got lucky against Ohio State two years ago. what have you done besides that?
these things run in cycles. I remember it wasn't long ago that Spurrier never beat the Noles at Doak Campbell in twelve years and the Zooker only got that one the year before he was ignominiously fired.
Meyer and the gators will get what's coming to them. it's just a matter of time.
Posted by: terminator | April 24, 2008 at 11:15 AM
That's all you got? Cycles? That's the sign of a fan that knows his team is garbage and probably only the 4th best team in the state this year...haha.
Posted by: UF student | April 24, 2008 at 11:25 AM
seriuisly terminator? If you want to think of it as a cycle it doesn't look good for your boys. The cycle would call for FSH to have about three decades of mediocricy at best. Did you seem the garnet and gold game? This team with their offensive MVP will be lucky to repeat the 7-6 records they have had over the last two years. Not to mention that MVP is looking at a felony.

11:27 - showed just what a typical Gator fan is like. "Seriuisly" is spelled seriously, dumb**s.

I think they invited him to read bills word-for-word. They're running out of staffers willing to do it.

well most of that you can attribute to Bobby's paternalism with Jeffy boy who was a horrible excuse for an offensive coordinator.
We've got some talent back and should be good (not great).
Wetherford has enough starts under his belt and has faced enough pressure starts, Smith at tailback is good, the line will be more physical then in the past now let's see if we can get some production out of talented but underachieving receivers like Greg Carr.
Year two under Jimbo will be better.
Defense will require some patching up due to losses of Hayes, Gulion and Fluellen. there is talent not alot of experience though.
My prediction is 8-4 with an upset over the Gators in Doak!

Terminator, I agree with you 99% of the time...but you're way off here.
But Clemson, Wake Forest, Miami, Virginia Tech, Florida, Kentucky, the United States (for your cheating scandal) and the United States again (Preston Parker)are all laughing at you. :)
Posted by: | April 24, 2008 at 01:14 PM
Did you see the spring game. The receivers couldn't catch the ball in WARM UPS. What that tells me is that there is a lack of coaching, which would fall sqaurely on the shoulders of Jimbo now. Also, how is the o-line going to be better? They have more bodies, but only two of of them would be on the two deep roster at UF. Weatherford isn't a bad QB, Smith isn't a bad RB but that O-line is terrible and won't see a whole lot of improvement because there is a lack of talent. With a bad o-line, as has been the case over the last 5-6 years, it doesn't really matter how good the skill position players are. The oline coach is good and may, if given 5 years, have a good o-line by ACC standards (small and quick) but it will not help them face ANYBODY in a premiere conference. IF the defense struggles this year you are looking at 5-7 losses depending on the rest of the ACC. If FSU was in the Big 12 of SEC that would no doubt have a losing record.

The good news is that terminator seems to know exactly as much about football as he does about politics.
Posted by: | April 24, 2008 at 01:30 PM
Just cause Tebow is a good guy shouldn't make Gator fans forget the thugs they have that have gotten in trouble at their school too. He is a good role model and deserves the honors he's gotten. I only wish his poor excuse for fans could follow his classy lead.
Posted by: | April 24, 2008 at 01:39 PM
Tebow… isn’t that like… archery for young kids?
Posted by: | April 24, 2008 at 01:44 PM
1:44 is Decody still playing for FSU?

nice to see you slamming a guy who just blew out his knee and likely his NFL dream. Reeeeaaaalll class act you are.
Posted by: | April 24, 2008 at 02:01 PM
...and before you defend yourself for being a jerk, we all know you were referencing his last name as a joke.
Posted by: | April 24, 2008 at 02:05 PM
1:24 -- "premier" conference? Go back the past 20 years and lets compare national championships including teams that are now members of the ACC and SEC.
SEC - 6, ACC - 6. I see what you mean by saying the ACC isn't a "premier" conference.
Posted by: | April 24, 2008 at 02:08 PM
When did he blow his knee? Sad, his family is so nice...
Posted by: | April 24, 2008 at 02:10 PM
NFL combine. Last day. He had surgery a few weeks ago.
Posted by: | April 24, 2008 at 02:17 PM
well guys, I'm like Charlie. Just trying to be optimistic!
anyone see my rose colored glasses?
Posted by: terminator | April 24, 2008 at 02:23 PM
Randy Spetman is retired Air Force officer. The O-Line coach is retired Marine Corps.
If they can't whip some discipline into those FSU boys, no one can.
None of the state schools can call the other out for disciplenary progblems. Each has had their dark moments.
