Another House Democrat rebuffs GOP candy
Rep. Janet Long is not the only one the GOP is trying to flip.
Fellow Democratic Rep. Debbie Boyd of Newberry was approached several times in the past session with the promise of possibly gaining a committee chair, getting more bills passed and taking a breather from campaigning this summer. She will likely face Columbia County Commissioner Elizabeth Porter in November.
Courting is nothing new, but the effort speaks to the GOP effort to pad numbers as it has lost eight House seats in the past two years. "I told them it's not going to happen," Boyd said, declining to name who worked on her this session and last year. "I'm a Democrat and my district is a Democratic district."
Boyd is an ideal Republican target. A Realtor, she has a strong pro-business voting record. But she also voted with NRA-leaning Republicans in support of the guns-to-work bill. "My caucus knows I'm not a straight party line girl," Boyd said.

Yeah. A "Boyd" switching to the GOP. Good luck with all that...

maybe ms. boyd considered the following before whoring herself for "power":
"President Bush on Wednesday criticized Democrats in Congress for their approach to dealing with the nation's housing crisis and soaring energy prices and called anew for an extension of expiring tax cuts and government wiretapping authority."
drunken douchebag desperately desiring to be relevant or even coherent.
you piggies got a long, tough road to hoe, before you get the taste of this dipwad out of the nation's and the world's mouth!!
exactly how much do you estimate the lying gasbag is drinking daily now?

Forget about Boyd and Long; they aren't going anywhere.
If you want to evaluate possible party-switches (on both sides, because there are R's that might as well switch too), here they are, in order of likelihood:
D's
Michael Scionti
Bill Heller
Tony Sasso
Ron Saunders
R's
75% of the Senate GOP caucus

3:16: Get a job like the rest of us, instead of wasting time stewing in your mom's basement thinking up this crap. What does Dubya have to do with a state representative from the sticks, you moron?
Posted by: | May 08, 2008 at 03:26 PM
How many times have we heard, "Boyd is an ideal Republican target"? Ha.
Like all the other Boyds, Debbie isn't afraid to represent her constituency, and that makes her a good Democrat. We need more like her.

It’s interesting how you nipplenosed Rove wannabes seem to think that the GOP picked these two arbitrarily. Why do you think they went after them; BECAUSE THEY’RE ACTUALLY REPUBLICANS IN DEMS CLOTHING, and they can be (most likely already have been) had!
Geezz, no wonder you left-wing nuts are such losers, you’re so damn gullible.

Forget parties, Debbie Boyd is a really good legislator and a refreshing change from the status quo.
Posted by: | May 08, 2008 at 03:47 PM
Debbie Boyd IS the status quo... as republicans go that is.
Posted by: | May 08, 2008 at 04:01 PM
Debbie is a good representative of that rural, conservative Democrat district in North Florida. She does a great job! And she'll hold her seat.
I seriously doubt any of those others named by 3:25 PM would switch - but funny Senate joke there, guy!
Posted by: | May 08, 2008 at 04:13 PM
Debbie Boyd is great. She cares more about serving her constituents than special interests or caucuses. She is a breath of fresh air.
Tony Sasso switch to R??? Not even slightly a possiblity. And the D's can have Ron Saunders. He is a moronic gasbag.

Well, at least we know what her staffers do all day.
Posted by: | May 08, 2008 at 04:35 PM
We'll take that 75% of the Senate - it will make it that much easier to strangle things like the "academic freedom" bill in the cradle so we in Florida have one less thing to get laughed at about.

"We'll take that 75% of the Senate - it will make it that much easier to strangle things like the "academic freedom" bill in the cradle so we in Florida have one less thing to get laughed at about."
It is one fewer, not one less. Kidding aside, maybe if they would lay off the dogma, we could get real educations.

4:35- It might be fair to assume it was her staffers, except I don't know if the internet exists in Newberry.

do you think any sane candidate wants to run for office with the rotting carcass of THEDRUNK hanging around her or his neck...no matter how far DOWN BALLOT they were?
$3 BILLION a month
4,000+ military dead
anothe 1,000+ "contractors" dead
20-40,000 wounded and maimed
inadequate VA care for the most seriously maimed
vietraq in shambles
and...
ABSOLUTLY NO EXIT PLAN
forclosures abounding
stocks falling
dollar dropping
lieslieslieslies and even more lieslieslies...........
WHY would anyone want to do that to themselves??
Posted by: | May 08, 2008 at 05:15 PM
Debbie Boyd is a good legislator, but she is no Dwight Stansel. The legislature may never see another one like him.
Posted by: | May 08, 2008 at 05:52 PM
Debbie Boyd is delusional. She wasn't approached by anyone. She is a dead woman walking and just doesn't know it yet.
Posted by: | May 08, 2008 at 05:54 PM
4:54 - Yes, I know "one fewer" is grammatically correct. But "one less thing" is common usage and I was taking a bit of grammatical license.

Good riddance! When will republican leaders figure out we don't need more RINOs? This is exactly why this former platinum member of the republican party has not and will not give them another dime! GET SOME CONSERVATIVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is there a more unattractive member of the Florida House....NO
Posted by: | May 08, 2008 at 10:32 PM
I wonder how Porter feels?
Posted by: | May 08, 2008 at 10:37 PM
Chip Case is pure evil. He will turn back the House to the Dems. FIRECHIP.COM

Ya ken lead a DEM to Kool-Aid but ya kenna make 'er drink it.

Well, it sounds like the Republican Party of Florida is seeing the writing on the wall for this November. Their chickens are coming home to roost. Not only did they abandon their base, the middle class, they became its enemy by kowtowing to the corporations and enacting laws and policies that have driven the former middle class into the working poor. Like Nero who fiddled while Rome burned, the Republican leadership of this state has ignored the plight of it's base.
Quite frankly, the Dems offer little hope with their wacky policies and so we are between a rock and a hard place - to continue supporting a party that offers us "death by a thousand cuts" or one that is simply caters to those who despise the "go to school, get educated, get a job, get married, raise a familiy, save your money, and retire" way of life.
Our ONLY hope is to vote the Republican bums out this November and pray that they learn their lesson, return to their base. However, as long as the interests of CSX, St. Joe Paper Company, and privately owned sports team trump the interests of the middle class we can not let the Republican Party stay in power.
Remember in November.

Rs are desperate when they have to try and get D' to flip rather than field good candidates to beat them.
Posted by: | May 09, 2008 at 05:12 AM
Why change sit still Dems will be in the majority SOON
Posted by: Jason Straight | May 09, 2008 at 06:21 AM
the only "good candidate" is six feet under!!
we need to go back to the old days when there were bounties on republiskums, this time because they are enemies of the people, not because they oppose the "good ol' racist pork chop" democrats who THEY HAVE BECOME over the past 30 years.
Posted by: | May 09, 2008 at 10:42 AM
Oh yeah, sure, go back to those ultra-conservatives, like the ones who lost big-time to McCain, not to mention all those who lost H. races to Dems. Sure, keep on losing seats by refusing to see that the people are evolving. Stay stuck back in those old days, bleating those tired old cliches, and watch the Dems just make their winning streak even larger.
Idiots.
Posted by: | May 09, 2008 at 10:51 AM
Yeah, why "Stay stuck back in those old days"... when we have lots of young Americans who can die for profit in the New World Order days!
Posted by: | May 09, 2008 at 10:59 AM
Hey we are in a recession how the Democrats respond...we need to raise taxes. Great way to spur the economy.
Posted by: | May 09, 2008 at 11:21 AM
Hey we are in a recession, how the Republicons respond... "Thank you sir, may I have another?". Great way to spur the economy.
... dope

Whoever the idiot poster at 3:25 is that would think Michael Scionti or Ron Saunders would switch parties is smoking crack. You have no idea what you're talking about, obviously.
Posted by: | May 09, 2008 at 06:05 PM
Why should anyone join the Grandstanding Old Party?
Posted by: | May 10, 2008 at 04:00 PM
Regarding Heller being the 2nd likeliest to switch parties... dream on, you dont think they have tried every way possible? There is no amount of money or chairmanships that could could even tempt him.
Posted by: | May 11, 2008 at 11:51 AM
Debbie Boyd is amazing! One of the best in the legislature. Keep on being awesome!!!!
