Bashing Crist as VP
Larry Thornberry, a Tampa writer, in American Spectator smacks down the notion that John McCain should tap Charlie Crist as his running mate: "The conventional wisdom is that Crist would help McCain carry Florida, without which state McCain has little chance of winning in November. But Crist's political pull elsewhere would be limited, because he's at least as unappealing to the conservative Republican base McCain needs to win over as McCain himself is, and has far less gravitas. He's sort of a Dan Quayle without the maturity and seriousness. For long-time observers of Crist and Florida politics, imagining Charlie Crist in the Oval Office is a little like imagining an armadillo in a tuxedo."
Thornberry has trashed Crist before.

"John McCain should tap Charlie Crist..."
Ummm... never mind.

Good article on OSentinel yesterday about Crist also. The writer nailed it. People are seeing through Crist. And with the lackluster session (with the exception of his 2 sided issues - NO health isurance mandates, YES, we HAVE to have autism treatments) - Charlie got what he wanted. Still waiting for Amendment 1 to jump start the Real Estate market, and for that "next step"? Where was it? Did I miss something?
Posted by: | May 05, 2008 at 11:43 AM
There was never a "nest step"... in fact, Amendment 1 was not a "first step, rather a "mis-step".

C'mon, let's get the echo chamber going. McCain hates Catholics!

You're one sick puppy!!!!

You should not talk that way about McSame... how do you even know he's sick?

Hopefully McCain's researchers have figured out that Crist's popularity will nosedive when the new TRIM notices arrive in late August with assessed value and tax INCREASES for most homeowners. Then you'll see a serious panic among R's just in time for the election.

2:02: What do you care? I thought Dims like you love tax increases.
Posted by: | May 05, 2008 at 03:26 PM
2:02 I doubt "most homeowners" will see their taxes increase - thanks to Amendment 1.
However, I'm expecting a rude awakening when homeowners see the serious impact tax cuts will have on essential services and quality of life. Thanks goodness we were able to stop the corporate-run GOP from giving even more welfare to their Big Business pals, or extending SOH to out-of-state flippers and investors.
Now if we can just stop dumping a billion a day in corporate welfare on the war in Iraq, maybe we can save the economy. Hopefully, McCain's researchers have discovered that this is the real cause of our country's financial mess, and he will distance himself as far as possible from that warmonger George II. Oops, I guess not - in that casem, he should be toast in November regardless of his VP choice.

On our way out of Iraq lets stop by the United Nations and tell them that welfare for globalist socialists is over because we are defunding those ingrates regardless of the fact Barrack Hussien Obama sponsored legislation to tax Americans .07% of GDP in order to be redistripute it amongst dictators, communist regimes and various anti-American organizations.

On our way out of Iran lets stop by the United Nations and tell them that welfare for globalize oil producers is over because we are defunding those ingrates regardless of the fact Lil' Johnny "Napoleon" McSame sponsored legislation to tax Americans .10% of GDP in order to be redistribute it amongst corporate campaign contributorsorganizations.

3:50
BANG O RANG!
Can you imagine 7% of our GDP going to Iran, North Korea and Sudan?
Obama's in way over his head, sort of like that other guy this article was about, Chuck Crist who couldn't govern himself out of a paper bag.
Crist got what he wanted? You've got to be kidding me. No solutions on kick starting the moribund real estate market, no solutions on reducing property taxes, no solutions on reducing property insurance, cutting public schools to the tune of hundreds of millions (wasn't it Chucky who trumpeted holding schools harmless back before the vote on Amendment One)?
Norquist Traitor:
you must have missed the part where the legislature passed along $366 million in increases to the local RLE. Any meager savings generated by A1 will be more than offset by the increase to the RLE.
By next year at this time Crist will be in real trouble and R's will be looking to Marco as the party's new standard bearer.
Don't say Termie didn't tell you guys so back before the primary. Chuck's just one big piece of plastic.
And year sure, Carol Rome's his new girlfriend!

I hope Crist stays as governor, he's been fine. The voters of Florida think so, as shown by his ratings. Maybe not as high as they were, but still high enough. So he looks great on paper. But even though I think he's great, once the national pundits start looking at his personal life, I don't think the overall reaction will be as positive as it is here, where people have dealt with him for a long time and know, and generally do not care, about issues that the national press would consume like bees on honey.

5:21 you are so right!!! He's been a great governor! So what if child abuse investigators, foster care workers, parole officer, hospice provides, and teachers are laid off - the good news is that Charlie has a fuel cell for the mansion!!!!!
Who cares that services to the severly mentally and physically handicapped are eliminated? Charlie gets to fly all over the country with McCain to campaign!!!
What does it matter that schools are closing, teachers are being laid off, and universities are decreasing the number of in-state students to accept out-of-state students - Charlie got to meet the Govenator of California!!!!
Life is happy, life is sweet (especially is your a corporation who got a "little something special" from the budget!!!!
Yep - what leadership!!!!!
Remember in November!

6:41 sounds like one of these social workers whose parents spent a small fortune sending them to a really great university so they could spend all day trying to redistribute working peoples wealth instead of giving away or creating their own.
If the economy is not running full tilt those that can not or will not do for themselves will suffer first and the most.
Don't like the reality of human nature and fundamental economics move to North Korea or Cuba where everything is a perfect state run utopia.

2:02 I too am anxiously awaiting the tea party that will be thrown with the new TRIM notices, however, my non-homesteads will go down as I have the proof I need to take the the VAB board. I'm laughging... It will be a joke.

Gov. Crist is a liberal with a poor record (property taxes have not dropped "like a rock" and the insurance crisis has not been solved). He will not be McCain's VP nominee but he will be a one-term Governor.
Posted by: | May 05, 2008 at 07:43 PM
At the very least, Gov. Crist is light years more qualified than the incumbent President.

7:15 - nope kido - I'm one of those who worked my way through college and didn't major in social work. What I am is a TAXPAYER who is ticked off at the sorry excuse for a Legislature for spending my $$$$ like a drunken sailor on shore leave on "special projects" for friends and family designed to feather their nests!
I expect that if CSX wants to compete in the marketplace they should do it with their own money.
I expect the Government to provide a safety net for those who CAN'T, like children who are being physically and sexually abused, children who are neglected, the severely mentally and physically handicapped, and the elderly in nursing homes.
I expect St. Joe Paper Company to build their own darn roads and, if the want a fancy dancy airport - pay for it themselves!!!
I expect that Florida Universities should put FLORIDA students first.
I expect that the members of the Legislature should be there to work on the business of the state and not to use the state resources to enhance their personal business!
I expect the members of the Legislatare to CUT THEIR STAFF FIRST and to CUT THEIR EXPENSES FIRST before they cut one necessary service to one abused child in this state.
I expect that if part-time state workers have to pay for their health care that these part-time members should pay for their health care!
I expect that when these part-time members are "working" in Tallahassee for 60 days and are being paid at the FEDERAL per diem rate in addition to the over $4,000 housing allowance they are given that they actually work a 40 hour week instead of wasting time on farewell speeches, boot days, sear sucker days, and weight loss contests!!!
That's what I expect - and, quite frankly, that's what most people expect too!

Oh, and by the way - Remember in November - many of us will.
Posted by: | May 06, 2008 at 04:20 AM
3:38 if you believe your property taxes aren't going up this fall you must belive in the tooth fairy too!
If you do manage to save $240 on the city/county side of your TRIM check out your school board side and all the special districts - no cap or relief there!
Smoke and mirrors - just like theif "fix" of property insurance and PIP.

McCain/Rice would dominate Obama/Clinton
Posted by: | May 06, 2008 at 04:36 PM
mccain/rice?
it's got a good beat, and you can dance to it.
besides, didn't jerry win dancing with the stars?

Better yet I believe that John McCain, should pick Ron Paul for his VP. That would make everyones day here in Florida.
Especially the RPOF. I feel that Ron Paul would make a good VP.
