Bruce Cotton v. Janet Long
Bruce Cotton has collected over 1,000 petitions to have his name placed on the ballot for state House District 51, held currently by Democrat Janet Long.
“Bruce’s efforts were remarkable,” said Doug McAlarney, Cotton’s campaign consultant and a former Deputy Director for the Republican Party of Florida House Campaigns. “I’ve seen many hard-working candidates over the years, but Cotton is definitely playing for keeps. Now is the time for the Republican Party to move forward, united for victory in November.”

Yeah, but that's the problem with the GOP, they are a political machine, period. No workable platform required.
"Here you guys need to sign this petition."
"Who's Bruce Cotton?"
"What, are you a DEM? You don't need to know, just ign."
"Cotton Good, Democrat Baaaaaad!"
"Here, fill out this absentee ballot, while you're at it."
"Baaaaaa!"

Some machine. Cotton has been an announced candidate since last summer and has seven HUNDRED dollars cash on hand.
You have a good day, there, Doug.

Janet Long has been the most effective local legislator and has set a high standard for how public service should be conducted. Janet communicates often, effectively and directly with her constituency through electonic bulletins. Janet is accessible and listens genuinely, instead of simply paying "ear service" to those who bring their concerns to her. If anyone should be returned to Tally to represent people, Janet Long should be. Maybe some other folks will watch her and figure out how representative government is supposed to work. It is good that she will have an opponent, that's democracy. But Cotton doesn't stand a chance.

Effective legislator??
Has Long done anything in Tallahassee to help with insurance ot taxes? no
Does Long have any idea on what to do about Insurance or taxes? no
Has Long passed any bills dealing with Insurance or taxes? no
Does she deserve my vote? no
Posted by: | May 07, 2008 at 03:16 PM
3:16 Then no one deserves your special vote, because no legislator did any of those things. So stay at home on election day

Nonono, 3:16... make damn sure you go to your polling place on Election Day and vote every one of these useless, self-serving, criminals out of office.... like I plan to do.

Ask Cameron Skinner how effective McAlarney is at getting someone elected.

But Cotton did so well last time getting 36% of the vote in his own primary. What a loser!

What is it with HD 51 and really dumb slogans:
Ride the Waters Wave
Can't Go Wrong with Long
Pick Cotton
jeez

If Bruce Cotton wants to win against Janet Long, just keep emphasis on Long's voting record & support against property tax relief.
I remember Charlie Justice & her clearly supporting local government's drunken spending at property tax reform/relief meetings last year.
Great issue to nail her on in this tough economic time.
