GOP tries to entice Rep. Janet Long to switch
The GOP wants to make a Republican out of Rep. Janet Long.
The Pinellas County lawmaker told the Buzz she had several conversations with "a good friend" in the majority party who asked her to give the idea some thought. "They said, 'You know in the majority you could be a chairperson, you could have a stronger voice.' "
Long, who would not identify her friend, said she has never tried to define herself by party, but "I decided not to do it." She added: "It seems a bit disingenuous to change my stripes in midstream. Do I realize maybe I might get a chair or it would be easier to pass bills? Maybe I do. But I don't think I would have as clear a voice in the majority as I do in the minority. I wouldn't take kindly to being told what to do."

maybe ms. long needs to consider the following before whoring herself for "power":
"President Bush on Wednesday criticized Democrats in Congress for their approach to dealing with the nation's housing crisis and soaring energy prices and called anew for an extension of expiring tax cuts and government wiretapping authority."
drunken douchebag desperately desiring to be relevant or even coherent.
you piggies got a long, tough road to hoe, before you get the taste of this dipwad out of the nation's and the world's mouth!!
exactly how much do you estimate the lying gasbag is drinking daily now?

how much are you drinking daily now?
2:08 sounds like the inane rantings of the liberal blogger ron mills at "change in tallahassee"

Why not switch, Janet?
The FDP doesn't have a chance of taking the majority in either chamber until (long, long) after the 2012 session when the deal on reapportionment gets done.
By the R's...

Janet Long was a Republican and switched to the Democratic Party...she had her reasons for changing. Since she was elected as a Dem, she needs to stay a Dem....hang tough Janet.

Janet Long is a moderate, pragmatic legislator. The State House does not
allow Republicans to behave that way.
There are Republicans in the Legislature who are cracking under the
pressure of voting "party line" rather
than trying to reach judgements.
Long knows she is more comfortable being able to vote her beliefs.
It also speaks to the Republicans inability to find a credible candidate against her. There will be more Democrats in the next session.

Way to go Janet! You are an independent voice of reason and you serve your constituents well. Keep up the good work, we appreciate all you do!
Posted by: | May 07, 2008 at 02:53 PM
Good to hear from Long's staff. Maybe they should be answering constituent calls rather than blogging for their boss.
Posted by: | May 07, 2008 at 02:57 PM
Why not switch? The Dems have the voter registration edge in Pinellas. Isn't that reason enough?
Posted by: | May 07, 2008 at 02:57 PM
Long shouldn’t switch, she’s the perfect DINO. Besides, her Party bozo’s buy her façade hook, line, and sinker. Long is a much a Democrat as Karl Rove.
BTW: Her friend’s initials are PN… and the word is, they’re more than just friends.
… you may now proceed to censor the truth.

Mrs Clinton would be easier to convert.

God forbid that we have a bit of differences amongst ourselves. Let's become robots, that would be way cool.

Wake up, 4:50… Long is far from Pro Choice. Hell, if you ask her straight up (npi), she’ll tell you that homertesticle and lesbotarians should be shot on sight! This split-tail is as Red as they come.

Anyone know what happened to the last Dem who turned Rep?
Sheri something... C'mon, help me out here. Someone?

And the majority party behaves in the House as a dictatorship. Kind of like Fidel Castro.

I don't see Long switching any time soon. Like she said, she likes to talk, and likes to have her voice heard. She would be one of those chairs that is removed because they disagree with the speaker or the leader. Especially after what they did to her this year on her bill, i really doubt her helping them out. But there are quite a few D's who could be R's but made the choice (I am a registered D but I vote my beliefs). Every single one of those that you call "DINO" are those who want the ability to vote yes or no when they want to without fear. And they want to be able to represent their constituents ALL of their constituents.
"Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose. Now read the bill in full."

I don't think she belongs in the Republican party if she keep supporting local government's drunken spending at property taxpayer's expense.
I clearly remember her at property tax reform meetings.
Posted by: | May 07, 2008 at 07:52 PM
Republicans can easily target her by YouTubing her talking points on property taxes.
She supported the status quo of gouging property owners.
She better hope I'm not running a opponent's campaign against her.
I could easily paint her like a fat cat democrat tax & spender.

Hey 4:54
If Long is so conservative why does she keep getting such high ratings from planned parenthood and yearly F's from Christian Coalition???
Posted by: | May 07, 2008 at 08:30 PM
How else do you expect her to keep up the facade?... duuuuuh!
Posted by: | May 07, 2008 at 08:41 PM
"...and yearly F's from Christian Coalition???"
That could be because of Peter!

4:53 -God forbids murder
Posted by: | May 07, 2008 at 09:26 PM
4:53 - people who think that slaughtering babies as long as they are still in the womb must be "way cool" to you. I assure you God does not think killing HIS creation is "way cool." Quite the contrary.

I'm hopeful and relatively confident that Janet won't do it, but whether she does or not, this allows me to share my belief that any time a partisan elected official switches parties in the midst of their term of office, a special election should be scheduled immediately. Would this be costly? of course. Would this be an issue for the party switcher in the special election campaign? you bet. Party switches mid-term are tantamount to a defrauding of a sizeable number of voters in the prior cycle, and as such, require immediate remedy.

I'm down with that!

She'd have to be a damn fool to do it, nor will she do it.

"She'd have to be a damn fool to do it"
Maybe, but at least I'd respect her for being honest about her loyalty.
"nor will she do it."
Unless of course Peter threatens to expose their little "friendship"!

"...a good friend"? Janet and Peter in Tallahassee; well, well, well…
The way I heard it; she didn't have to flip…

Janet, you need to end your self denial, come out of the closet, and admit to the entire political world that you are a Republican in Democratic sheepskins.
More specifically, you seek your council from a ruthless Republican political consultant. In addition, you deceive fellow Democrats by using misinformation and disinformation to your advantage to aid and assist Republicans.
We know the real truth. It’s time for you to get real!
