Obama coming to Tampa Bay
Details to come, but Barack Obama is set to do some kind of public campaign event in Tampa Bay on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 21.
Coming the day after he's likely to win a majority of elected delegates in Oregon and Kentucky (and a potentially logical day for Hillary Clinton to exit), Obama's Tampa Bay stop is is part of a three-day campaign swing through Florida. It's the first time since August that the Illinois senator has been willing do campaign in Florida outside of private fundraisers.

Officially, nothing has been set in stone.

He turned his back on us. It's time to return the favor.
Posted by: | May 12, 2008 at 10:54 AM
Oh give it a rest, he followed the rules.
Posted by: Rene | May 12, 2008 at 10:57 AM
Wow, anonymous sure did follow the news about the state party breaking the rules.
Posted by: Ted | May 12, 2008 at 10:57 AM
All right. I'm looking forward to the candidate that plays by the rules and talks to Americans in more than 10 second sound bites. Lets put an adult back in charge and give our children a president to look up to. Hillary is a good senator and should get back to work on the Hill.
Go Obama!

Let us all go hear what great new Marxist ideas he has in store for our country!! Can't wait.
Posted by: | May 12, 2008 at 11:07 AM
I cant wait. I want to see him in person

OH MY GOD!!! OBAMA'S COMING, OBAMA'S COMING!!! Someone get me a fan, i think i'm going to faint!
idiots...

Dumba** comments like Paulas makes me so happy that our founding fathers chose to have an electoral college.
Posted by: | May 12, 2008 at 11:21 AM
OPERATION CHAOS!!
Posted by: | May 12, 2008 at 11:22 AM
We don't want that racist Obama or his pastor in our state.
Go back to your elitist home.
Posted by: | May 12, 2008 at 11:26 AM
It would be disgusting just to think about Barack Obama or Jeremiah Wright setting foot inside the White House.
NO FRIGGIN WAY I WILL EVER, EVER VOTE FOR OBAMA!
My vote goes to McCain. If he wins, Hillary likely would re-run in 2012.
Posted by: Vote for McCain!, Hillary supporters! | May 12, 2008 at 11:29 AM
Barack Obama's type of change will set race relations in America back 30 years.
NO THANKS!
Stop drinking the kool-aid. America is ready for a black president, just not Obama the racist.

Senator Obama will be in Florida for fundraisers on May 21st and 22nd in Orlando and Miami. Nothing has been confirmed about a Tampa visit. This is a rumor going around but we have nothing to confirm whether or not he will stop by Tampa.
Posted by: Megan Foster | May 12, 2008 at 11:45 AM
For those of us who seek a rational, thoughtful, intelligent debate on the issues that face our nation and the world, I welcome Senator Barack Obama to Tampa and to Florida.
For those of you who blame the Senator for ‘turning his back on us’, your blame is misplaced. It was the State Party and the State legislators - - - Democrats as well as Republicans - - - who broke the rules that had been established for the 2008 presidential primaries.
Let’s listen to what both our presumptive nominees have to say and then decide who should lead us through the next four/eight years. Personally, I see many ways that we can use our tax dollars to feed the hungry, initiate innovative ideas to improve our children’s education, maintain our infrastructure, and save our failing healthcare system. I do not want to see our economy bankrupted over what has become a civil war in Iraq. …But, that’s just a personal opinion.
Posted by: | May 12, 2008 at 11:56 AM
Who the heck cares if Obama is coming to Florida. This is the deep South country & we could care less about that elitist.
Posted by: | May 12, 2008 at 11:56 AM
Obama ignored us in January, now it's our turn to ignore him.
We do not want you here & don't come looking for money either.
I won't be supporting either Hillary or Obama. They are dead to me.

I'm sure the Pravda Times will provide balanced coverage of the empty suit
Posted by: Bob | May 12, 2008 at 12:04 PM
I don't want to see the U.S.A. fall back into the reigns of terrorism in our homeland. Terrorists group Hamas wants Obama to win, plus the fact that he wants to talk with terrorists states. That really troubles me.
remember people, FREEDOM IS NOT FREE
Posted by: | May 12, 2008 at 12:05 PM
Obama works for Cheney.
Follow Echelon Corp and follow the money.
how else could they win? do you not understand the current gastopo corps still run the media? Do you think this free ride in the media is BECAUSE YOU LIKE HIM? What changed in America that we get the press back?
They put up one on their own!!! And a black man, only way THEY can win with numbers in the toilet. activists are the hardest to be able to see truth.

The last thing we need is another socialist/communist representative. People are so used to expecting the gov't to pay for them. It's killing this country. Obama and Clinton both represent higher taxes.

ps....we had a chance with Ron Paul.
Posted by: Deb | May 12, 2008 at 12:16 PM
Did his campaign reimburse FAMU for the cost of providing the FAMU Marching 100 for his campaigning???? If not, then why is FAMU using state resources in such tight times to campaign for a Presidential Candidate?
Posted by: | May 12, 2008 at 12:25 PM
I've been a fan of Obama since his speech at the Democratic convention and voted for him in the Florida primary. I'll be glad to finally see him in person. This white/low income/latte liberal (yes, we do exist) plans on finally getting off her rear and doing something to help get Obama elected and turn this country around.
Stop the drama, vote Obama!
Posted by: Barb | May 12, 2008 at 12:32 PM
Again, thank GOD for the electoral college. Comments like Barb and Paula who are idiots who supports Marxism (I bet they don't even know what that is) re-enforces my belief that our founding fathers were geniuses.
Posted by: | May 12, 2008 at 12:43 PM
WOW what a bunch of totally uninformed voters. First of all Obama is far from an elitist. He grew up in Kansas on and off food stamps. He put himself thru college on student loans and has nowhere the net worth of McBush or Hillary. McCain the son of a HIGH ranking Military father and multi-millionaire, and Hillary who is worth over 100 mil are the true elitist. Google Pastor Hagee & McCain. Oh by the way Rev Wright was at the White House, a guest of the Clintons. Get the facts before you make yourself look like a fool.

I WILL BE THERE! SOOOO EXCITING!
Posted by: Warren D | May 12, 2008 at 12:44 PM
The amount of ignorance and vitriol on this thread is truly remarkable.
TLook at the havoc that the past 7 years have wreaked on our country. It is a direct result of this type of shallow dialogue.
Let's debate the issues. Let's compare McCain and Obama's positions on Iraq, the economy, healthcare, etc.

Barb- it's about choices. Maybe your income would go a little farther if you stopped drinking $5 lates
Posted by: | May 12, 2008 at 12:51 PM
That's funny, annonymous. I don't recall complaining about being low income. I give myself the luxury of a latte almost everyday. It's something I enjoy immensely. Got a problem with that?

I love how the majority of the bashers posting here are anonymous....they must be scared of being pointed out as the brainwashed, misinformed sheeple that they truly are. Do some research past the loudmouthed radio idiots and the propoganda laced emails that circulate now days. Let you brains do the work for once sheeple, stop following the herd & get informed!

the one question for me...will hillary's "white america" show up?
Posted by: | May 12, 2008 at 01:23 PM
It's amazing how the racists, the uneducated and the ignorant come out of the woodwork to blah, blah, blah. They should stop being bitter and stop clinging to their guns for comfort.
Obama will be the President one day - whether it's this year or in the future. He will be judged by history as one of the most magnificient presidents in modern history.
God BLESS America.
OBAMA 08 and beyond.

Wow, it really scares you people to think we might actually have a black President. I’m white, I’m Republican, and I’m voting for Obama. You folks need to search out your inner voice, and tell it to get a life!
Face it folks; Obama is our next POTUS… and it’s ok, really… its gonna be ok.

Adam aren't u the one WHO also spead the rumor that obama would be here early may?

Newt G-
I doubt you are a repub, not because you said would vote for obama- but because, I am not sure a repub would vote for him...well, a left leaning repub would, but we have that in McCain
But more to the point of my issue...
racist Dems-
I found this in an article- "Josh Fry, a 24-year-old ambulance driver from Williamson, insisted he was not racist but said he would feel more comfortable with Mr McCain, the 71-year-old Vietnam war hero, in the White House. “I want someone who is a full-blooded American as president,” he said."

imagine if a repub had said that...it would have been headlined how racists we were

Obama foreign policy = Chamberlin's policy of appeasement!
Posted by: | May 12, 2008 at 01:38 PM
Jesse,Al, Louis,Jeremiah and Obama - racists all.
Posted by: | May 12, 2008 at 01:40 PM
If 90% of all black voters vote for Obama, isn't that black racism? This lopsided black voting bloc is based upon color alone and is a powerful message to the white voter.
Posted by: | May 12, 2008 at 01:44 PM
The fact of the matter is that Barack Obama is the next President of the United States of America. So all of you right-wing, nut-job, xenophobes...just relax...don't have a stroke...

Posted by: Smart American | May 12, 2008 at 01:54 PM
smart american-
these people are only saying what hillary says~
"“ ‘I have a much broader base to build a winning coalition on,’ she told USA Today in an interview published yesterday. She referred to an Associated Press story on Indiana and North Carolina exit polls ‘that found how Sen. Obama's support among working, hardworking Americans, white Americans, is weakening again, and how whites in both states who had not completed college were supporting me.’ She added, ‘There's a pattern emerging here.’”

Okay, once again...the members of Florida's leadership turned their backs on us. Barack Obama merely followed the rules that all the candidates agreed to follow. I know it's a novel idea in politics - playing by the rules - but it's just one of the reasons he's got my vote. Hillary says Obama doesn't want a solution? BS. She's the one who rejected a plan in Michigan (you know, that place his name was not even on the ballot) that would have shifted only FIVE delegates from her column. Tell me again who doesn't want a solution? The only solution Hillary will except is the solution that gives her an overwhelming majority of the delegates in both Florida and Michigan...silly rules and fair-play be damned.
As a side note, when I planted arugula in my garden this year - the one I planted not only as a fun project, but a money-saving step due to the exorbitant cost of EVERYTHING - I had no idea it would brand me elitist. So be it.

Reiterating Megan's comment from a couple of hours ago:
Senator Obama will be in Florida for fundraisers on May 21st and 22nd in Orlando and Miami. Nothing has been confirmed about a Tampa visit. This is a rumor going around but we have nothing to confirm whether or not he will stop by Tampa.
Secondly, two major themes in this comment thread:
1. Obama "turned his back" on FL in January.
2. blah blah...black..blah blah... blah...elitist..blah blah...redneck talking points...blah.
1. Obama did not turn his back on this state; he operated within the parameters of the DNC rules. In effect, this state's Democratic party broke the rules and was penalized. HRC only cared about FL (and MI) when it became politically expedient (and necessary). But all of this is neither here nor there: Obama will be our nominee and the time for this bickering has past. We need to coalesce, unite, and win this election.
2. It's 2008, guys. I am confounded by all the bigotry and racism in this comments thread. And still yammering on about Rev. Wright is just thinly veiled pretext for your own racial prejudices. Any uneasiness about that simply isn't borne out by the facts. Get over it. Join the rest of here in Not-a-Redneck-Racist-Land. It's nice here.

I just want to know where all you dopes bi-ching about this were when the monkeysicks in Tally Town pulled this off. Actually, most of you freaking morons voted for this because you’re too damn lazy to care to read the item before you used the finger, commonly used to pick your freaking nose, to push YES.
Matter of fact, where the hell was Hillary during this. She wants to bi-ch and scream now because she’s lost the nomination fair and square… but nooooooo, she’s a Clinton and “It’s her turn”.
I’m done with the whole damn lot of you. Neither Clinton nor McCain have done a damn thing in the Senate, except line their freaking pockets with my tax dollars.
Obama gets my vote, and I’ll be damn proud to call him my President. The rest of you lemming whiners can put down you crack pipe and kiss my big white a-s!
