Pro-lifers against Crist for VP

From LifeNews.com: "Leading pro-life advocates say one of the top considerations for John McCain for a vice-presidential running mate should be left off of his short list. They're concerned Florida Gov. Charlie Crist isn't sufficiently pro-life and not motivate the base of the Republican Party in the way McCain needs to win....Kelly Shackelford, the president of the Liberty Legal Institute pro-life law firm told CBN that a Crist selection "would certainly put the last nail in the coffin for social and Christian conservatives" but Shackelford says he doesn't think McCain will select Crist."

Crist stated that he is not pro-abortion. That's what happens when you have labels such as "Pro-Life" and Pro-Abortion. Where are the Anti-life's and Anti-abortions? But for the life of me, I can't understand why Kelly Shackelford insists on talking about Crist's stance when Barry Obama is pro-killing babies after their birth. It's true. It happens in a hospital in Barry's jurisdiction. Google it yourself for the proof. That's coming from a nurse who started to champion the cause of anti-abortionism after watching babies die on the shelves of the hospital. Seems to me Ms. Shackelford's energy is being wasted by putting down Charlie vs. Barry.

social and Christian conservatives ARE NOT THE BASE OF THE PARTY - because they ARE NOT CONSERVATIVE

Here's an important piece of advice: If it looks like it's going to be McCain/Palin anyway (and that should be a "no brainer" for Team McCain), McCain should announce NOW or VERY SOON, rather than later towards the convention. There's currently a growing chorus for Obama/Hillary (as VP) ticket (in fact the Dems are likely aware of the Palin phenomenon). If the GOP waits while movement for Hillary as VP grows -- even worse until after it is solidified that Hillary will/could be VP pick -- selecting Palin will be portrayed by Dems/liberal media more as a reaction by GOP selecting its own female (overshawdoing Palin's own remarkable assets), rather than McCain taking the lead on this. Selecting Palin now or early (contrary to the punditocracy) will mean McCain will be seen as driving the course of this campaign overwhelmingly, and the DEMS will be seen as merely reacting. And, there's absoultely no down-side to this because even if Hillary is a no-go as VP for Obama, the GOP gains by acting early. McCain the maverick. Palin the maverick. Do it now!

There's no reason, and actually substantial negative, in McCain waiting to see what the Dems do first insofar as his picking Palin as VP, because, no matter who Obama picks, Palin is by far (and I mean far) the best pick for McCain and the GOP, especially in this time of GOP woes. The GOP can be seen as the party of real 'change' (albeit I hate that mantra, change, change, bla bla), while not really having to change from GOP core conservative values, which Palin more than represents.

In light of the current oil/energy situation, as well as the disaffected female Hillary voters situation, and growing focus on McCain's age and health, Palin is more than perfect -- now.

(Perhaps Team McCain is already on to this.)

3:26 stop posting the same public display of ignorance. It would be a monumental mistake to announce the running mate now. If McCain waits until just after the Democratic convention he steals the media spotlight. It is also a mistake to put a running mate under the media spotlight for the next three months...Moreover, picking Palin guarantees defeat. She is a great politician...but doesn't help where it matters...in the Electoral College.

"Perhaps Team McCain is already on to this."

"Team McSame" is busy enough trying to keep the gimp awake for God's sake.

You far right make me sick! I am a Republican because of less government, less taxes, more personal freedom! Tell me how you can call yourselves Republicans and mandate government stiffel our personal freedoms?? You do not fit in with us so go somewhere else and flex you hatered. Looney Tunes. Charlie Crist has it right!

The conventional logic that 3:30 is using is why we probably are going to loose in November. Americans are looking for change. Palin would be a good pick. She has a solid list of accomplishments and is a woman. Charlie is an empty suit and nobody knows what he is.

Omega thanks for the link to the Op-Ed by Senator Coburn which I had already read this morning but his opinion does not define "the base."

He is right on point on a number of things he wrote though.

Being pro-life is in the Republican Party's platform. It is defending the most defenseless and innocent in our society.

Ted (3:26) I guess you're aware Gov. Paulin just had her 5th child and it has down's syndrome. I can't imagine she would be interested in a VP slot at this time with a newborn.

http://www.adn.com/news/alaska/story/382560.html

No one from Alaska is going to be chosen as the VP candidate. Stop posting the same crap on every thread, Ted.

If the christians were actually pro-life they would be against the death penalty. They are against abortion because it punishes the mom who dares to have sex before marriage. (Baby too.) If they really cared about the babies they would want to help them with more social programs. Not happening. Let the christian cons sit and pout. Their time is past and Hay-seuss hasn't shown up yet. Suck it.

If I were Obama, I would be afraid to pick Clinton as my VP. She might just take him out so she can move up. Remember Vince Foster and Ron Brown??? All I can say is that there were a lot of "suicides" and accidents involving people who crossed the Clintons. She has already invoked the Bobby Kennedy assasination.

4:06 it is not "conventional logic"..it is simple math. If you can add and subtract then it is obvious that Crist must receive serious consideration. Nobody knows who she is and she can't match the Crist record of being tough on crime and cutting taxes. Just admit it...you are another Romney flunky.

They just don't know our Charlie that well. When they get to know him, he'll be our VP nominee, McCain will carry Florida and win the White House. We're with you Charlie!

8:14 is clearly an ill-informed idiot! How's that $240 bucks working out for ya... dope.

Conservatives, and I am one of them, will vote for John McCain on election day. The alternative is not acceptable. The Democrat candidate will be pro-abortion, pro-tax, and pro-big government. McCain is pro-life, opposes tax increases and pork barrell spending and is the most qualified candidate to be Commander-in-Chief since Dwight D. Eisenhower. This is all true regardless of who he pick as his running mate. The running mate issue comes down to who can help McCain win one of the big swing states (Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan). Crist, by the way, is pro-life....he doesn't have the problem that Romney has of being "more pro-choice than Ted Kennedy" (his own words ON TV)....I suspect most of this media attention to "Pro-Life Opposition to Crist" is really orchestrated by the Romney crowd in hopes of landing the VP slot for their flip flopping phoney guy.

9:08 It's not surprising that in your entire rundown of the various politcal angles of the 2008 election, I didn't the word "BUSH" mentioned once.

Let me help you:

BUSH! BUSH! BUSH!
McBUSH! McBUSH! McBUSH!
McSAME!

FOUR MORE YEARS!

Tax cuts for the rich!
Corporate welfare!
WMD lies!
Valerie Plame!
4000+ Soldiers dead for Haliburton!
Mission Accomplished!
Executive Privledge!
Signing Statements!
Patriot Act!
Illegal Imprisonment!
Torture - Thumbs up!
Record Oil Prices!
Record Oil Company Profits!
Osama Still on the loose!
Global Warming!
Environmental President!
Education President!
Compassionate Conservative!
Swift Boats!
AWOL Coverup!
Hurricane Katrina!

Does that help make it clear why the next President will be a Democrat?

What a surprise. He didn't fool pro-lifers with his superficial BS of "Im ProLife" It takes more than simply saying it to count for anything.

If McCain caters to the religious extreme, he then ignores the majority of people who voted for him. He needs to have Leiberman as his VP and that seals it for McCain. It at the very least gives Obama a very difficult hurdle to jump. The religious right has no clue what Conservatisim is. LESS GOVERNMENT IN OUR LIVES.

Well then let them get Obama. The most leberal of all candidates. See who he selects for the Supreme Court. Idiots. Right wing nuts fits very well. McCain, do not give in to these nuts. If you do, you will lose my vote and many others

I think you will find that a very large number of people - myself included - vote republican merely because the alternative party is staunchly pro-abortion. For many social issues, we side with the democrats, but somehow, this formerly noble party of the little guy got hijacked by leaders with a hitlerian disregard for life.

Why are we still fighting over abortion? Meanwhile our culture is more sexualized than ever. It is humorous to me to see the very men who are "pro-life", bring it up, wear it as a badge on their sleaves and then go to topless bars and rent porn tapes. If we (all) focused more on the beginning of this problem, a woman would never be faced with the "decision" in the first place. I'm disappointed in the pro-lifers as they are the definition of true believers, stepford-type followers who can't hold a conversation, much less a debate on the topic, yet are proud to call themselves "pro-life". Regulating a woman's body is counter to the less government regulation party, the Republicans. We need to DROP this issue quickly. We truly have other things to worry about. For those who think that society missed out as a baby was not born, aren't you a believer anyway with all younger ones who haven't had the choice to chose God going to (the ultimate goal) of Heaven? What's the problem. Get off of it.

Nobody is “pro-abortion”, Buzztard!… As for the party with a “hitlerian disregard for life”… check the mirror, you dope.

You guys are hilarious.

Clamoring for Crist to be the VP candidate down ticket from McCain who may not even make it through his first year.

Crist, who has ZERO foreign policy experience and limited domestic policy experience AND failed the bar exam three times.

Are you serious?

Nonono… we must stop abortions. We need these kids to send to Iraq so they can die to avenge my daddy. I must prove to him that he should love me more than Jeb!

Love,

Dubya!

Chuck is better suited to be VP of NAMBLA!

Feel better now?

I always feel better after b-slapping you and your horse-hit rhetoric.

As I was saying - we agree with democrats on many issues. Just not the abortion one. There's a real need for a party that is pro-life at all stages of life. Neither republican party nor democrat currently fill that bill.

How about that stage where they're sent to die to avenge Dubya's daddy?

Yup. That one, too.

The religious nuts have hijacked the Republican party. The left wing wack jobs have hijacked the Democrat party. These nutty extemes leave 60% of Americans with no representation. Let's just all vote for Obama to prove how bad things can get. This country needs a gut check and Obama is the left wing wacko who can make it happen.

Don't look now, 10:44... but you just became one of the right-wing nuts.

I think I'll write in Ron Paul.

Everyone hates Charlie, but somebody must have voted for him . . . right?
