Sticking it to John McCain
Florida Democrats are holding a contest to design an anti-McCain bumper sticker, hoping to forever link the Republican presidential nominee with the current White House occupant. Designs are due May 11. Details here.
But let's open it up a bit. What are some ideas for a snarky Obama sticker? How about Hillary Clinton?

Alex, nice display of pro-Dem anti-McCain sentiment, thinly-veiled by the lame CYA of "let's open it up."
This is the same blog that published the brainstorm of having the Dems put Al Gore on the Florida ballot, and qualified that with "just thinking out loud here."
Nice work, Karen Thurman, even if earned media is so much easier when all the "journalists" are on your side.

Excuse me while I McYawn!
The idiotic and constant posting on this blog that McCain is a Bush clone from top to bottom is truly laughable.
With Bush’s approval ratings in the toilet, it’s easy to see the Democrats are trying to pick off low hanging fruit. Showing how lacking in creativity they are. They’ve been Bush haters for this long, so why give up now? And why resist the temptation to hang the Bush albatross around the GOP’s neck, which would seem to be their trump card in another down year for Republicans?
The problem is that it runs counter to some deeply ingrained perceptions about McCain, the most transparently un-Bush candidate Republicans could have nominated. How does one overlook the fact that among Republican primary voters most dissatisfied with Bush, McCain dominated. Or McCain’s bitter rivalry with the President that lingered long beyond the 2000 election, culminating in charges that he threatened to leave the party, and now, that he didn’t even vote for President Bush in 2000?
The Democrats have chosen to run the same campaign against McCain as they would have run against Romney or Huckabee. This will turn out to be a strategic mistake. Why? Because they ignore the new media reality that no amount of points on television can overturn a narrative backed up by the free media. The left’s “McSame” campaign is an example of the particularly crude communications tactic of countermessaging. Countermessaging consists solely of challenging a prevailing public narrative. The media is not liberal. There was no housing bubble. Global warming is a myth.
The problem is that this particularly uninventive form of “McCain Maverick Denial” is the Democrats’ central strategy for discrediting McCain. Few people who aren’t partisan Democrats actually believe it. If you ask undecideds about McCain’s comparative weaknesses, Bush-coziness would not be close to the top of the list in the same way it would be for a more conventional Republican.
We are in an era of authenticity, where free media narratives reign, then you’re limited to arguing based on a candidate’s actual weaknesses and strengths. In a few cases, you can create weaknesses if you’re operating in an evergreen open space where there are no public perceptions yet either way. Unfortunately for the anti-McCain bloggers on here, Bush-McCain tensions have been a recurring theme for nearly a decade.
McBush, McSame, etc.----Hardly!!!
Posted by: Getting Bored | May 10, 2008 at 11:12 AM
Getting Bored - McCain barely eked out a win on points, and in North Carolina (where you'd think he would sweep the votes, being that he's the only person still running on the R side) he only got 74%. 26% of NC Republicans voted for Huckabee or "Other". Keep whistling past the graveyard - he's not that well liked, which is why he's having to suck up to nutballs like John Hagee and Rod Parsely to try and bring the Huckabee voters over. His stated policies so far are more of the same Bush boilerplate, so the "four more years of W" tag is very accurate.

Posted by: | May 10, 2008 at 12:50 PM
Chris W--Keep drinking that liberal kool aid!! McCain IS NOT another Bush. What part of is not do you not comprehend. I did not vote for Bush but I will vote for McCain over the socialist/communist U.S. hater Obama and his freak of a wife! I don't want four years like those we had under J. Carter--and that's what Obama will give us. So, if you love Carter, vote for Obama he's more of the SAME!
Posted by: | May 10, 2008 at 12:50 PM
12:50 (the first one), I'm not a "pompous lefty". But thanks for playing, and see the receptionist on the way out for your parting gifts.
12:50 (the second one), McCain maybe didn't start out as Dubya Bush the second, but he's morphing that way as fast as he can. He's sucking up to every mouth-breathing dingbat fundamentalist blowhard he can find, he's fine with staying in Iraq just about forever and he doesn't know anything about economics. He's thin-skinned and verbally abuses his trophy wife in front of people.
John McCain is a leftover man. He's a hard-right conservative wearing a moderate costume and makeup, and we have had eight years too many of a right-wing administration. He's a die-hard Republican in an era where Democrats have a double-digit identification advantage over Republicans and have won special elections in districts that ran R+10 or more in '04.

I hope you receive some counseling before McCain is elected so that you don't commit suicide. Your hatred is really showing through.
I'm concerned about Obama. Because as a white and a Jew, I see signs of him being willing to get the ovens going again just like in Germany. I don't trust him or anyone who supports him who are out to destroy all good about the U.S. and those who are "different" than him and his supporters.

Sorry, meant my post be directed to:
5:28;5:31 Probably the same person since they all lack any substance.
Posted by: Fear the Ovens | May 10, 2008 at 06:38 PM
Worrying about the return of the “Ovens” is way off base. What we should fear is the destruction of the U.S. by the terrorists who want to use Obama as their MESSIAH to “bless” their goal of wreaking havoc on anyone who disagrees with their cause to dominate the world!
Ahmed Yousef, a ranking official of the Islamic terrorist organization Hamas, recently declared we like Barack Obama and we hope he will win the election. Gleb Pavlovsky, a key adviser to both Vladimir Putin and Dmitri Medvedev, has called McCain the worst choice and Obama the best.
Hugo Chávez, the radical socialist president of Venezuela, has not endorsed Obama so directly. But he has been busy lambasting McCain as a man of war. Over in Iran, the intelligence ministry has put out a public-service television broadcast in which a fictional villain, who just happens to be named John McCain, is portrayed orchestrating numerous conspiracies against the Islamic Republic. North Korea's state-controlled newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, has accused McCain along with others in U.S. ruling quarters of trying to mount a base and challenge to North Korea as part of a bid to strangle it.
A terrorist kingpin like Khaled Meshal, the head of Hamas, will not sleep particularly well with a president in the White House like McCain who describes himself as Hamas' "worst nightmare." And dictators like Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and North Korea's Kim Jong Il may believe it will be far easier to deal with an American president like Obama, who has pledged to talk with them no matter what they say or do or how many people they kill (even our own).
The obvious possibility flowing from all this is that one or more of these terrorist players might do everything in its power to hurt McCain and help Obama. With the future of the U.S. presence in Iraq before the electorate, the stakes will be that much higher and the incentives to wreak havoc will be immense. The most obvious being an increase in violence in Iraq to hurt the "pro-war" candidate and help elect someone who has pledged to withdraw. Al Qaeda might try something similar here in the U.S; using this to declare victory over the U.S. and weaken us throughout the world if Obama is elected.
An attempt to use violence to sway the American electorate one way or the other could easily backfire. The Democrats would love to see some “killing” right before the Election—in hopes that would encourage votes for Obama. However, I don’t think the Democrats or our terrorist adversaries really understand the will and commitment of REAL AMERICANS—not the many wimp Democrats who would raise the white flag and turn our country over to anyone to avoid conflict.
McCain was a supporter of the invasion of Iraq, and a proponent of the surge long before it was a glimmer in Bush's eye. Obama has pledged to pull all American combat brigades out of Iraq no matter what the Joint Chiefs of Staff tell him, or what is happening on the ground. That’s absolutely stupid and shows Obama’s naïve approach and lack of understanding of foreign relations!
Obama is not who I want protecting me and my family! This is the real issue for me; not Obama’s pastor, his wife sexual orientation, his race or other non-important concerns being stupidly presented by some of the liberals on this blog.

Also, Obama's house purchase deal in Chicago isn't yet fully vetted by the media. Don't trust the media, they will set up Obama as the leader and then help McCain to destroy him. John McCain, there's still plenty of time to regain your soul. Repent and renounce George Bush and promote your own moderate agenda. (But of course, that would cost you the selfish neocon vote and the election, wouldn't it?) Nevermind, sell out, appease the wingnuts, and settle with God later.

You all sure must FEAR John McCain. Why keep posting about him if he's toast in the general election. Just forget about him and move on to the crowning of King Osama H. Obama. I mean, after all, McCain is just an old Republican who can't get anyone to vote for him. I would expect this to not even be a close Election. But then again, maybe some to the Democrats aren't so sure about Osama winning it all. He's sure having his problems with Hillary and the rest of the white, working class folks who don't identify with his elite, sissy style. By the way, which branch of service did Osama serve? It was with Bin Laden wasn't it?

12:23 AM---BIG DEAL!!!
Wait until the intern story comes out on Obama. The proverbial will hit the fan!
Posted by: | May 11, 2008 at 08:29 AM
11:07 - Me? I'm just having fun watching you thrashing around trying to be clever and failing at it.
Posted by: Chris W | May 11, 2008 at 11:04 AM
11:29 - A quick Google search turns up nothing on Obama having an affair with an intern, and there would be at least something in the GOP sludge generators about it if it were remotely believable.
McCain, on the other hand, did cheat on his first wife to marry a sugar-mama who's helping bankroll his campaign (and who he doesn't treat very well).
Posted by: Chris W | May 11, 2008 at 11:11 AM
8:27 - You don't really know how politics works, do you? We keep pointing out McCain's very real and very large character flaws, and it reinforces the doubts and general dissatisfaction that GOP voters have with him; hopefully it keeps them home on election day and hurts Republicans in down-ballot races. We keep pointing out the devil's bargain he's making with the nutjob evangelicals to get their support, and it makes the independents say goodbye to their old illusions about McCain the "independent" and liberals stop seeing him as a "maverick", and they swing over to the Democratic side and we can put the GOP in the attic for a while until they come to their senses.
Posted by: Chris W | May 11, 2008 at 11:16 AM
Dream on Chris W. You are living in la la land!
Stay tuned on the intern situation. Not everything is available via Google or the GOP sludge generator. You will see and it is going to be a real stunner.
Posted by: | May 11, 2008 at 12:20 PM
More wishful thinking by Chris and the liberals. The Evangelicals will turn out in force. Why? Because this election is between the fans of Marx and Engels and the fans of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. I'll give the Evangelicals the benefit over the socialists and communists when push comes to shove.
Posted by: Luke | May 11, 2008 at 12:25 PM
You got it! When those Christian hating Obama supporters lay out their secularist plans, that will really fire up the evangelicals. McCain or whomever the R candidate is will get the support. You ain't seen nothing until you see the religious right upset--all the youth vote and black vote in the world won't get out with the force of these folks.
Posted by: | May 11, 2008 at 12:54 PM
I see many comments about how Obama is ahead of McCain in several polls. You can forget that because of something called the "Bradley Effect".
In 1982, Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley, who was black, was predicted to win the governor’s race by a comfortable margin but lost.
The post-election findings were that it’s not socially acceptable to say things about race and gender, but in the secrecy of the voting booth, they come out. That’s why polls are not accurate when it comes to true feelings on race and gender, especially race.

2."Liberal (noun) An Open Minded Individual Whose Brain Has Fallen Out." See also: Obama, Democrats, Satan
Chris W should buy one of these, they both seem to apply to him and others who post on the blog.

Chris W, please ease off on McCain; you've got his graybeard followers about to blow an embolism. It doesn't do any good to argue with those so demented that they can't even see that our country is living the conservative Republican failure even as we speak.
We need Change, not more of the McSame.

You know, if McCain could really appeal to conservative evangelicals he might have gotten James Dobson to endorse him instead of saying (on the record) that he wouldn't vote for him. They know McCain doesn't really like them or trust them, and they've never really forgiven him for calling them "agents of intolerance". He's trying to get his nose in between John Hagee's butt cheeks (*those* pictures are going to play well, just like the ones of McCain making out with Bush), and everyone with more than two brain cells knows he's not sincere.
The fact that he's snuggling up to a nut like Hagee (who supports Israel mainly so there's a place for the Apocalypse to happen, followed by Jesus coming back so they don't have to keep getting laughed at) shows how flexible his "integrity" really is. And the fact that he's even willing to hint that those clowns will have a seat at the policy table (where they really don't belong without an adult guardian) disqualifies him for *any* kind of executive authority at all.

Liberals are a bunch of cowards who would sell out our Country in a minute to assure the advance of socialism and destroy our defense against terrorism. AWOL types to the core! The tee shirt slogans say much about the state of the Democrat Party and Obama.
Wonder how many Iraq veterans we have on here. I’m one and glad I didn’t have to serve with some of the yellow-belly elites who are attacking John McCain. Of course they would have turned tail and run at the first sign of conflict. A bunch of wimps. I would't be able to sleep at night if I was still a soldier and had Obama as my Commander in Chief.
I’m not a grey beard and I’ll vote for McCain because he will help assure me that Obama lovers and left wing nut cases like Chris W go crazy when McCain wins and their Messiah is brought down to size.

Well Robert Blanchard, I guess you slept pretty well at night knowing your current commander in chief was a draft-dodging frat boy drunkard who was awol someplace during his war.
Listen, just because some dumb@ss politician puts an R next to his name doesn't make him a patriot. It might surprise you to know that liberals can and do love the US as much as anyone else. I personally happen to think that the corporatist Republicans have completely sold out every belief this country was founded on.
Now if you think that strapping on a gun and running off to kill some Muslims in order to guarantee Bush and his pals make a big profit is brave, well maybe you're right, but it's also stupid. Did you ever consider that your commander in chief blatantly lied to you? BECAUSE HE DID! YOU ARE DEFENDING A LIAR WHO IS PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEATH OF EVERY SOLDIER AND CIVILIAN IN IRAQ. WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE, GI JOE, THIS ISN'T WWII, AND YOU ARE FIGHTING AND DYING TO MAKE SOME WEALTHY RICH FOLKS RICHER. BOTTOM LINE.
Now you tell me who supports the troops, someone who wants them to keep on fighting, or someone who wants to end the farce and bring them home?

So long traitor, I have seen enough on here to know that you are not anyone I'd want to break bread with. Go ahead and vote for Obama--that is also your right which I have one leg less defending. Robert:
I like Obama because he's a quick learner, isn't stubborn and doesn't treat people like they're stupid. I like Hillary because she's whip-smart and not afraid to cut your guts out with a knife to win.
I don't like McCain for a lot of reasons - too much pandering to right wing evangelical nutjobs, too much corporate whoring and he dumped his first wife for a trophy wife (marriage vows weren't that important to him, I guess). Hillary and Obama are both married to their original spouses, by the way; wonder what that says about *their* family values as opposed to *his* family values, eh?
I'm not that impressed with his grasp of geopolitics, either. The best way to deal with Middle Eastern terrorism is to kill the terrorists and the imams who stoke them up, and follow that up by making the oil that ultimately funds that terrorism much less important to the world economy. If Iran and Saudi Arabia can't depend on petrodollars to run their countries, they'll have to build their human capital and in a generation that religious fundamentalism will lose its luster.

Well, Robert, you believe what you've got to believe. I'm sorry, but it doesn't change the fact that George Bush lied to you, me and every American. Hell, I believed him and supported him, just about everyone did. He took advantage of that trust. If you want to rationalize your loss so that it makes him look like a patriot and me like a traitor, so be it. But remember, we're talking about Iraq, not Vietnam, not even Afghanistan, where we could claim justification. Despite your service, there were no WMDs, which Bush knew, but he still sent troops to fight. His pals got rich, but how many people back home have suffered, are suffering, not because of his mistake, but because of his blatant selfishness? Yes, it's possible to honor your service, but still demand accountability for those responsible for this terrible crime. In fact, I think that is the truly patriotic thing to do in this particular case. Lord knows we don't want to send others to die for corporate gain. About Obama - how ironic that the one candidate who called the war a mistake beforehand, is being branded as unpatriotic, now that he's been proven right.

Calling a blogger GI Joe and a killer is sure not showing respect. More liberal b... s...!
Posted by: | May 12, 2008 at 07:42 AM
7:42 - *I* have never done any such thing. Our armed forces have done what we asked of them, and they have done it well. They served our country.
The people who do not deserve our respect are Bush and Cheney and Rumsfeld and the rest of the neoconservatives. *They* took advantage of the loyalty and bone-deep honor of the military and used it to try and achieve some very questionable foreign policy objectives; they also lied to the public about how much of a threat Iraq really was. They took their eye off the ball (Afghanistan and al Qaeda), sent orders down from the top to go straight to Baghdad, and managed to leave ammo dumps unguarded (with the result that some 250 million pounds of high explosives went missing, likely winding up in IEDs that cost soldiers like Robert their legs and arms and lives).
Our soldiers served (and serve) us well. Our leaders failed us and lied to us, and McCain wants to continue their policies. That does not speak well of the man, and it is a betrayal of the heroism he showed in Vietnam.

You are one of the heros that help make our country great. Don't ever let anyone make you feel otherwise. My dad immigrated here in the 30's from China and served in the US Army in WWII. Although I never served in the arm forces, I honor everyone that is fighting & dying for our freedom. Remember, FREEDOM IS NOT FREE!
Posted by: | May 12, 2008 at 05:37 PM
On another note, the U.S. &/or United Nation had the right to attack Iraq even in there was no WMD's.
Iraq was violating UN mandates and no-fly zones and attacking our planes.
Plus the FBI agent that befriended & interview Saddam before he was execute, said that Saddam on purposes made it look like they had WMD'S.
Posted by: | May 12, 2008 at 05:41 PM
Tell 4,000 brave but dead soldiers, 10's of thousands of brave but maimed for life soldiers, and 10's of thousands of dead Iraqi people that dirty little Saddam tricked our big bad CIA into thinking he had WMD's. Mission Accomplished!
Posted by: | May 13, 2008 at 02:26 PM
Mission wasn't accomplished but it will be when McCain is elected. The Dems are quitters and want to pull out---which they know they can't. McCain will have the guts to complete the job.
Posted by: | May 13, 2008 at 02:29 PM
McCain will spill the guts of others to try and complete a job that the Iraqi's themselves won't stand up for and are stealing our money by the fistfull while young men and women from the US die for them to do so. Finishing a job that is righteous is one thing, finishing a job where we are being taken is plain foolish. Why should Americans show resolve when all the Iraqi leadership show is *sses and elbows on the way to the Swiss Bank

Since 1916, no Democrat has ever been elected President without winning West Virginia. Tonight, Hillary Clinton has destroyed Barak Obama there! If the Dems want to win the Presidency, we must nominate Clinton. Obama is just not electable. She is the only Democrat who can beat John McCain.

Even Huckabee admitted that the only hope he has is to pretend that he's not really a Republican, but that won't work too well. All we have to do is run pictures of him snuggling up to George Bush and arm in arm with John Hagee (along with news footage of some of Hagee's loonier statements).

I've been attending the same Church for 30 years with two pastors. Neither of them EVER said anything as ridiculous or anti-American as did Rev. Wright. So , Mr. Chris W don't do the typical liberal thing and paint ministers with the broad brush of "they all do it". They all don't. But Mr. Obama's did and has for 25 years. That's a fact and Mr. Obama will have to live with that come General Election time.
