Another 'green' governor trashes drilling

Not Gov. Charlie Crist, but his pal Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The California Republican put out this statement today after President Bush added to talk about ending the federal ban on offshore oil drilling. “California's coastline is an international treasure. I do not support lifting this moratorium on new oil drilling off our coast. However, I do welcome the national discussion about how to lower the cost of gasoline—soaring prices are taking a toll on California families just as they are across the country.

“We are in this situation because of our dependence on traditional petroleum-based oil. The direction our nation needs to go in, and where California is already headed, is toward greater innovation in new technologies and new fuel choices for consumers. That is the way we will ultimately reduce fuel costs and also protect our environment."

WHAT DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND?? THE PEOPLE OF FLORIDA ARE FOR DRILLING IF IT IS SAFE AND IF WE CAN GET MONEY FOR FLORIDA!! HELLO---------WE WANT GAS PRICES TO GO DOWN== EVEN IF IT WILL BE 5 YEARS BEFORE WE SEE THE OIL. BRING IT HOME!! DON'T PAY THE TERRIORISTS FOR OIL SO THEY CAN DESTROY US!!!
ANNOUNCE DRILLING, RELEASE RESERVES AND THE PRICE OF OIL WILL DROP AND FAST.

Yeah, Mister Cappy Caps Lock, prices would go down... for about six months, maybe a year. Less time, even, if there's a hurricane.

How much you think you'll pay to clean all the oil off the beaches after a disaster like that? Oil slicks don't go away overnight.

Get used to four bucks a gallon, and start thinking about energy differently.

Also, try taking caps lock off.

Chuck... is one-n-done!

Thank God we have something to look forward to.

The supply side doesn't seem to be the problem.

Everyone who wants gas is getting it.

Why does everyone assume that increasing supply will radically drop prices? -f anything, it will increase demand and sooner or later well be back where we began.

The market is bearing 4 a gallon. Regardless of increased supply, oil companies will try to hold this as long as possible until one begins to compete and set off the rest...or if government intervenes.

Omega,

They will push it to about $4.75 - to the brink of mass hysteria - then drop it to $3.50... then $3.00... everyone will thank our caring leaders for their effort... and it will never go lower than $3.00 again in our lifetime.

It has been the market plan for years. The current pricing structure is absolutely artificial… just like they did to real estate.

The “consumer” stopped driving the market years ago, and the “market” has been driving us ever since. Unless of course you believe that people actually stormed the gates of… well, Gates… and demanded Vista.

Wake the hell up people! Cut the puppet master’s strings, and get a freaking grip!

jonney I think you need to rethink, your way thinking. I have one question for you how much did louisiana pay for clean up after Katrena and I beleive Andrew? I mean by your way of thinking there should have been oil everywhere. go ahead look it up.....we'll wait....

we need oil until planes can fly on woodchips and cars can run on *iss - gonna take a while for that to happen -in the meantime, to continue restricting our ability to become energy independent is irresponsible, immoral, and darn near treasonous

DRILL MORE NOW!

The reason gasoline is so high is because the US dollar is nearly worthless on the world market.

One US dollar is worth 49 cents to the British Pound and one US dollar is only worth 63 cents to one Euro dollar.

Even the Canadian dollar has appreciated to being Equal to the US dollar.

This wreaked economy has happened on the Republicans watch. They tried to stave it off until the next administration, however, it did not work...George Bush has broken the Bank.

And, unfortunately, America hasn't even started paying for the Iraq war, yet.

Indeed, the USA has borrowed every cent, for the Iraq war, from China.

If you think the economy is bad now....

9:49, Child, you have no clue what you are talking about! Until you can blog with knowledge kindly stay off the computer or we will tell your parents. School may be out but you still need your sleep, now go to bed.

What happened here with our war for oil? How about the Iraqi's start paying for their freedom with a little bit of the texas tea. Our troops have paid in blood, sweat, and tears. As the saying goes freedom isn't free and it shouldn't be in this case either.

i realy miss paying an income tax -- please start the drilling so the tourism industry tanks and we'll have an income tax! please charlie christ! give me an income tax!

lol, if we had drilling, all that cash would come flowing into Florida
