Bob Graham: Drilling plan "incomprehensible"
Former Sen. Bob Graham tells us he's horrified by the new John McCain/Charlie Crist drilling stance: "It's incomprehensible to me, frankly. First the rationale of doing this - that there's a relationship between the moratorium on drilling and $4 a gallon gasoline. I doubt there's an economist alive that would make the case that there's a near or longer term relationship between the moratorium and the price of gasoline."
Even if the rigs are safer than they used to be, "the real danger is all of the onshore facilities that are necessary to support those platforms," said Graham, also dismissing the state's rights argument. Florida already has the authority to allow drilling between three and 12 miles offshore, depending on the location.
Nor is he comfortable with letting state lawmakers make the call: "The legislature has considered a lot of what I consider to be rather strange proposals as a way of generating revenue - everything from dramatically expanding the lottery to selling off our highway systems, big chunks of it. So I would be worried."
And by the way, Graham also told Buzz he hasn't talked to any representatives of the Obama campaign about vice presidential prospects.

Who cares what you think go back and take a nap old man.

I guess if you are a millionaire and can afford $4.00 a gallon gas and won't blink when the Dims raise the gas tax by $1.50 a gallon it is "incomprehensible"!!!!
Remember THAT in November!

Is Bob Graham still alive ?
Posted by: No way | June 18, 2008 at 12:08 PM
I never liked Bob Graham. But, when everyone was whipped up in a lather to go to war in Iraq, he was about the only one who pointed out that it would compromise our ability to find Osama bin Laden. Everyone thought he was a fool. Turns out, not so much.
Now he says that we're exposing our shorelines --and tourist economy-- to the dangers of drilling with no probable benefit to gas prices. Rather than beat the crap out of an unlikeable guy, maybe this time we should listen.
Posted by: | June 18, 2008 at 12:15 PM
I have always liked and respected Bob Graham, but I guess he has to also toe the party line. And when the party line says that gasoline prices aren't high enough, that we need more taxes and less personal freedom, then Bob Graham has to fall in line.
Frankly I find the whole cult-like embrace of an inexperienced wanna-be Marxist "incomprehensible."

Listen, i've got mine and i'm rich rich rich and can afford whatever this market throws at me and so i don't care if the worthless can't afford it cause i know they will always vote democratic cause they are stupid. So screw the market and let's raise taxes.

Haha. I'm thrilled that John McCain and Charlie Crist are actually campaigning on continuing the Bush/Cheney energy plan of nothing but tax subsidies for oil companies.
When Clinton left office, gas was like $1.47 a gallon. When Bush sold us the war, he said Iraq's oil would pay for itself. Where's the Iraq oil now?
No thanks, I've had my full of Republican energy policies.
Posted by: | June 18, 2008 at 01:05 PM
Let's see what drilling does for Florida's economy when we have oil sludge blanketing our beaches.
There's a reason the Reagan administration put a moratorium on offshore drilling -- the Santa Barbara oil spill that befoulled California's best beaches.
Look it up.

Hey liberal, you sound worried that someone might do something that you don't agree with!!
Bring on the rigs!

1:05 - Your left wing talking points are just that, talking points. I have noticed how well the Democratic controlled congress has handled our energy polices.

I can hear the lemming staffers and pundits now…
“If you don’t let us drill, you hate our troops.”
“If you don’t let us drill, the terrorists will attack us.”
Gulp, Gulp, Gulp… mmmmmm, this is good kool aid Mr. Rove… Gulp, Gulp, Gulp….

Americans are very willing to sacrifice for their country...sacrifice the natural beauty that is.
Parking the car one day a week (Sunday?) and driving 60mph on the interstate is too much to ask.
What a pampered, pitiful lot of self-interested crybabies this Nation has become.
Drill, drill, yes indeed - drill that last drop of oil so I can drive one mile to my air-conditioned gym and exercise!

George Bush's resignation speech:
Normally, I start these things out by saying 'My Fellow Americans.' Not doing it this time. If the polls are any indication, I don't know who more than half of you are anymore. I do know something terrible has happened, and that you're really not fellow Americans any longer.
I'll cut right to the chase here: I quit. Now before anyone gets all in a lather about me quitting to avoid impeachment, or to avoid prosecution or something, let me assure you: There's been no breaking of laws or impeachable offenses in this office.
The reason I'm quitting is simple. I'm fed up with you people. I'm fed up because you have no understanding of what's really going on in the world. Or of what's going on in this once-great nation of ours. And the majority of you are too damned lazy to do your homework and figure it out.
Let's start local. You've been sold a bill of goods by politicians and the news media. Polls show that the majority of you think the economy is in the tank. And that's despite record numbers of homeowners, including record numbers of MINORITY homeowners. And while we're mentioning minorities, I'll point out that minority business ownership is at an all-time high. Our unemployment rate is as low as it ever was during the Clinton administration. I've mentioned all those things before, but it doesn't seem to have sunk in.
Despite the shock to our economy of 9/11, the stock market has rebounded to record levels and more Americans than ever are participating in these markets. Meanwhile, all you can do is whine about gas prices, and most of you are too damn stupid to realize that gas prices are high because there's increased demand in other parts of the world, and because a small handful of noisy idiots are more worried about polar bears a nd beachfront property than your economic security.
We face real threats in the world. Don't give me this 'blood for oil' thing. If I were trading blood for oil I would've already seized Iraq's oil fields and let the rest of the country go to hell. And don't give me this 'Bush Lied; People Died' crap either. If I were the liar you morons take me for, I could've easily had chemical weapons planted in Iraq so they could be 'discovered.' Instead, I owned up to the fact that the intelligence was faulty.
Let me remind you that the rest of the world thought Saddam had the goods, same as me. Let me also remind you that regime change in Iraq was official US policy before I came into office. Some guy named 'Clinton' established that policy. Bet you didn't know that, did you? Now some of you morons are considering another and more evil Clinton for president !!!! Go figure that one!! She wants to take your kids away and let the 'Whole Village' raise them! i.e. governmental indoctrination .. Look this one up you dumb asses!
The rest of you morons want to be led by a junior senator with no understanding of foreign policy or economics, and this nitwit says we should attack Pakistan, a nucular ally. And then he wants to go to Iran and make peace with a terrorist who says he's going to destroy us. While he's doing that, he wants to give Iraq to al Qaeda, Afghanistan to the Taliban, Israel to the Palestinians, and your money to the IRS so the government can give welfare to illegal aliens, who he will make into citizens, so they can vote to reelect him. He also thinks it's okay for Iran to have nucular weapons, and we should stop our foreign aid to Israel. Did you sleep through high school?
You idiots need to understand that we face a unique enemy. Back during the cold war, there were two major competing political and economic models squaring off. We won that war, but we did so because fundamentally, the Communists wanted to survive, just as we do. We were simply able to out spend and out-tech them.
That's not the case this time. The soldiers of our new enemy don't care if they survive. In fact, they want to die. That'd be fine, as long as they weren't also committed to taking as many of you with them as they can. But they are. They want to kill you, and the bastards are all over the globe.
You should be grateful that they haven't gotten any more of us here in the United States since September 11. But you're not. That's because you've got no idea how hard a small number of intelligence, military, law enforcement, and homeland security people have worked to make sure of that. When this whole mess started, I warned you that this would be a long and difficult fight. I'm disappointed how many of you people think a long and difficult fight amounts to a single season of 'Survivor.'
Instead, you've grown impatient. You're incapable of seeing things through the long lens of history, the way our enemies do. You think that wars should last a few months, a few years, tops.
Making matters worse, you actively support those who help the enemy. Every time you buy the New York Times, every time you send a donation to a cut-and-run Democrat's political campaign, well, dang it, you might just as well FedEx a grenade launcher to a Jihadist. It amounts to the same thing.
In this day and age, it's easy enough to find the truth. It's all over the Internet. It just isn't on the pages of the New York Times, USA Today, or on NBC News. But even if it were, I doubt you'd be any smarter. Most of you would rather watch American Idol or Dancing with Stars.
I could say more about your expectations that the government will always be there to bail you out, even if you're too stupid to leave a city that's below sea level and has a hurricane approaching.
I could say more about your insane belief that government, not your own wallet, is where the money comes from. But I've come to the conclusion that were I to do so, it would sail right over your heads.
So I quit. I'm going back to Crawford. I've got an energy-efficient house down there (Al Gore could only dream) and the capability to be fully self-sufficient for years. No one ever heard of Crawford before I got elected, and as soon as I'm done here pretty much no one will ever hear of it again. Maybe I'll be lucky enough to die of old age before the last pillars of America fall.
Oh, and by the way, Cheney's quitting too. That means Pelosi is your new President. You asked for it. Watch what she does carefully, because I still have a glimmer of hope that there are just enough of you remaining who are smart enough to turn this thing around in 2008.
So that's it. God bless what's left of America.
Some of you know what I mean. The rest of you, kiss off.

to me what are we saving our oil for. china/russia are going to drill off the coast of cuba. why not us if we get a certain no of barrels a day that would be less we have to buy from other places. we have more than enough oil here to get us free from foregin oil. what are we going to save it for the next 200 years also you have lobbist that don't want to drill off the florida coast or any where in the united states screw them we need it now before we have to pay 225 dollars per drum or gas reaches 5/6 dollars a gallon.why make exxon rich they don't put any profits into building new refinerys witch they should do when you make billions in profits you should do something. drill off shore, don't wait 100 years to do it.with the cost of gas 20% of my pay check going for gas to and back from my job i would quit it draw unemployment ins. i be money ahead, per week put a cap on gas prices or deregulate the speculaters that drive up the price of oil control them on how much they can drive up the price.get tough with them

It's the democrats that are responsible for $4.00-$5.00 gas.
Bill Clinton veto'd a bill in 1995 that would have produced us 1+ million more barrels of oil a day today.

Bob can go to hell! He was in power long enough to intervene into this energy process long before it devoloped to the full-blown crisis it is today. He didn't do a dern thing then except tow the company line. Well let me tell you Bob. When you start paying to fill up my tank every time I go to the gas station, you need to shut your orafice or come out of retirement. It comes down to supply-side economics. When we start drilling, oil prices will fall exponentially because future supply is coming on-line. It's coots like retired Bob that don't understand the issues every American is facing today. Americans demand domestic energy for their pocketbooks and American security. Yet the likes of Bob want to continue to pawn our country to the Islamic world. Shame on you Bob! I hope you are silenced by the rational citizens of this state who are fed up with the Dem party line on domestic production.

Bob's friend, OBAMA, supports RAISING THE GAS TAX by $1.50 per gallon - I guess it doesn't matter to millionaires!!!
Remember THAT in Novmber!

The gas tax hasn't been raised since 1993. It's pegged to the gallon, not the price - and it's paid at the distributor level and passed on to consumers.
The gas tax funds the federal Highway Trust Fund. At current spending (spending authorized in 2005 by a Republican COngress and Republican President), the trust fund will be bankrupt by next year. It pays for the construction and maintainence of roads.
Those construciton costs have skyrocketed in recent years despite the tax not adjusting - thus, the purchasing power of the gas tax revenues has significantly diminished.
I am no fan of raising the gas tax either - however it's important to know the facts surrounding it.

No way am I voting for anyone who wants to raise the gas tax by $1.50!

You had to know it was coming from the liberal socialists. The Democrats are now proposing nationalizing the oil industry. Can you imagine how screwed up things will be!!!!

Omega. How much money does an oil company make off a gal of gas? About .04 is the number thrown out there. How much money does the govt make off a gal of gas? .184! Now who is REALLY profiting here? Now we hear Barry contemplating an additional $1.50 tax on gas. When is enough enough?
Posted by: Donald Lance | June 19, 2008 at 02:39 PM
The only thing "incomprehensible" is that hard working Americans have to pay nearly $5/gal for gasoline. THIS IS CAUSED BY THE DEMOCRATS BY NOT HAVING AN ENERGY PLAN.
Let the safe drilling begin!

When Florida's beaches are trashed, see how much McCain cares. Crist is just trying to get in cozy with the old man McCain.
They should listen to Graham. He was right on the war and he's right on this. People made fun of him when he said Iraq was not an imminent threat and that it would be a huge, costly distraction from catching Bin Laden and Al Qaeda. Wow! Surprise Surprise! He was exactly right. He was unafraid to speak out against the war when it was wildly unpopular to do so. If Obama wants to win Florida he should be talking to Bob Graham. Graham is a statesman and an intellectual.
Unlike our current know nothing Senator Bill Nelson -- Mr. Empty Suit and smile for the camera while nothing is going on between your ears. If Obama picks Senator "Multiple Face Lifts and Fake Plugged Hair" Nelson, he deserves to lose Florida.
