Crist has surgery, puts Kottkamp in charge

Kottkamp_2 Gov. Charlie Crist is not vacationing this week, as he had planned. He was out of commission for two hours Wednesday undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery. For two hours while Crist was under anesthesia, Lt. Gov. Jeff Kottkamp became acting governor (read Crist's proclamation here).

The surgery on his left knee removed "tears in both his medial and lateral meniscus," according to the governor's press office. Dr. William Lowry performed the surgery at Colombia Center for Special Surgery in St. Petersburg, and expects a quick recovery.

Crist's spokeswoman, Erin Isaac, said the operation was not planned. She said Crist began experiencing pain in the knee yesterday and a doctor recommended surgery right away. "The doctor told us he anticipates a very expeditious recovery," Isaac said, but she was not more specific. Crist flew on a commercial flight on Tuesday evening from Tallahassee to Tampa and had the surgery Wednesday. "The governor's fine. He's in good spirits," Isaac said. She said it was doubtful Crist would spend a leisurely weekend vacation near Fort Myers as he'd planned.

Get well soon, governor

This is not news, Crist not working. Does he ever??
4:24, hey staffer, get back to work.

You call this news???

He spends to much time on his knee's, buck up Gov.

It finally took surgery to prevent Crist from taking a vacation from vacations and trips to places like Newport Beach and the Hamptons.

so what.

He has spent alot of time on his knees!

Good luck but be prepared for osteoarthritis to set in now. Arthroscopic did nothing for me.

Knee surgery? Always knew he was a catcher.

In the spirit of the Sunshine Law all of our elected state officials should be required to sign "temporarily incapacitated" memoranda like this before they run around Tallahasse at night.

Actually - this is news because he turned power over to the Lt. Governor. Why did they release this after the fact though? Cover up?

I love you Governor Crist. Keep up the good work and thank you for listening to the voters. We want lower gas prices. You have traveled around the state meeting the people and I was lucky to be able to talk to you about the gasoline problem. Thank you, thank you thank you for listening! You are the best Governor Florida has ever had and I am old enough to remember quite a few.

Get well soon! Got a job for me?

I think many may argue his incapacity has not yet ended

Can we keep Kottkamp?

How do you say BIG retirment?

LOL, yeah him and that Eagle kid who carries crists bags! Wonder what theyll be doing in ft meyers.

i wonder if it was to re-attach his balls

Although we are both state workers, I must be on a different insurance plan than Gov Crist. It would take my HMO weeks, maybe months, to get approval for both a MRI and surgery. God forbid, we are treated equally in the health care industry.
