Crist lands with a loud thud in California
So writes a columnist for the Orange County Register, who sat through the governor's fund-raising speech to the Orange County Republicans Friday night. Columnist Frank Mickadeit says Crist managed to pack "two major gaffes and a cliche-ridden anecdote" into a nine-minute speech.
The writer also faults Crist's "advance team" for not telling him that among bedrock conservatives in O.C., Arnold Schwarzenegger isn't popular. Read for yourself.

FINALLY

Guess Crist didn't know he was actually at one of those Hollywood celebrity roasts--of him!
Posted by: | June 16, 2008 at 07:07 PM
priceless!
but wait a minute - if this story is true, and if i read the usual suspect crist defenders on this blog correctly, then jeb and gallagher must have stacked the CA audience with anti-crist plants!
yeah, that had to be it
Posted by: | June 16, 2008 at 07:18 PM
Gee...who did they invite again. Was it Romney? NO. Was it Jeb? NO. Was it Gallagher? HAHAHA. He was invited because he has become one of the leaders of the party nationally...the fact that gossip columnist Frank Microdick wrote a negative column only proves that Charlie is in the game.

Must have been that idiot Arlene's fault .
Posted by: Arlene is destroying McCain's chances | June 16, 2008 at 07:31 PM
7:23 - nice try but no one is buying - charlie flopped on his face, just admit it - the governor has no clothes and the nation is starting to see it
Posted by: | June 16, 2008 at 07:32 PM
Spin, baby, spin!
Posted by: | June 16, 2008 at 07:32 PM
Just wait, Ten years from now Jim Greer and Charlie Crist will be remembered as the biggest frauds our state has ever seen. Greer has done nothing to bring the party together and Charlie is just plain stupid. It's a shame this had to happen to our wonderful state but many predicted it...

Wow, a reporter who isn't drinking the Florida Press Corps' coolaid.
Posted by: | June 16, 2008 at 07:43 PM
arnold and charlie, two peas in a pod.
Supported and elected by their loyal party and worker bees, who were all soon forgotten. These govs spend their days sucking up to the democrats, giving them accolades, praise and key positions.
If anyone can convince voters that change is ahead and that McCain is not a McBush, it's Charlie. Just look at his record. He did nothing remotely related to republican principles or Jeb's policies. Florida is now like a third world country.
Pray that McCain takes charlie to Washington. Maybe then the republicans can take Florida back and get it moving in the right direction again. Marco Rubio please stay active in politics!

There's an article you won't be reading on Sayfie tomorrow morning.
Posted by: | June 16, 2008 at 07:50 PM
No way Sayfie allows this in tomorrow. The call from Arlene has already been made.
Posted by: | June 16, 2008 at 07:59 PM
Dear California,
KEEP HIM; FOR GOD'S SAKE KEEP THE LYING, OVER-TANNED, HAIR DYED, EMPTY SUIT, CLOSET DWELLING, CORPORATE-OWNED, PAPER DOLL FREAK!
Love,
Florida

Charlie Crist is aware of the "other" Republican President from Orange County...John Wayne!

Who wrote his remarks? Give you one guess....
Posted by: | June 16, 2008 at 09:20 PM
This is nothing but poor staff work. Someone should have caught that in the speech.
Posted by: | June 16, 2008 at 09:50 PM
who's plane and what budet is paying for all this...lets send both candidates for pres. back to DC and who ever solves most problems before November Wins...that is the test!!

Dear Marco Rubio,
Please run for Governor.
We need a true republican leading our state.
RINO Charlie (and Arnold as well) have squandered our trust and loyalty for their own personal agendas.
Posted by: | June 16, 2008 at 10:12 PM
The staff didn't hire itself, and the staff didn't give the speech.
Posted by: | June 16, 2008 at 10:13 PM
Crist said something similar at the YR National Convention last year in FL about Arnold Schwarznenngar being the greatest governor and many people around the room began asking if the govenor realized he was at Republican convention full of young activists.
Posted by: | June 16, 2008 at 10:20 PM
staff wrote it bc crist believes it.. he loves ARNOLD>>>
Posted by: | June 16, 2008 at 10:37 PM
Does Charlie's staff really have to tell him who to like and what to say about people?
They must all be democrats or RINO's, like him.
It's pretty sad that he doesn't even realize what he is saying or understand the audience he is addressing.
I guess he thought that's what they wanted to hear, just like all his other remarks. No substance, all talk, no action.
And Charlie, the grandfather story is getting a little stale.

Watch Arlene's missteps here live-- one by one her true colors will show. She probably has ripped someone a new one by now... of course we all know that Erin Issac is really the one responsible for all of the Governor's political communications. Those two really make a great team.
Isnt Erin still on the state dime- but somehow has all this "time off" to work on mccain and crist political show.
Posted by: | June 16, 2008 at 10:40 PM
The day Arlene leaves the state will be a great day in Florida's history.
Posted by: | June 16, 2008 at 10:55 PM
Marco Rubio - please stay home - you've done enough damage to education, abused, children, the elderly, and the severely mentally and physically handicapped.
I'm sure if you call around you, like your bud Jeb, can get on some boards of companies that you forced the state to outsource to!
Posted by: | June 17, 2008 at 04:58 AM
It wasn't Rubio who did the damage.
He stuck his neck out for children and the disabled community.
It's Charlie's poorly run agencies that can't get it together and have no idea what they are doing.
At least Rubio tries to help the people he serves. He doesn't pander to felons, environmental extremists, and the Indians who threw him a bone, and kept all the meat.
Posted by: | June 17, 2008 at 08:32 AM
Erin is a young ,loud kid who should not be in the job she is in, Crist will see that soon.
Posted by: | June 17, 2008 at 08:32 AM
Wasn't Greer in Irvine with Crist. Why did he allow Crist to get ambushed ill prepared at Hyatt?
Posted by: | June 17, 2008 at 08:37 AM
That column is ridiculous(ly funny). And people claim that critique of CC comes only from old Jeb-ites and Gallagher-ites. CC is an utter joke, and so is, not surprisingly, his team - state, 'advance,' campaign, and all otherwise. I used to like Charlie b/c he seemed to understand his limitations. Now, he's believing the sycophantic press. But he and his sr. team are ALL in over their heads - rookies - it's a complete house of cards. The first post had it right when he said, simply, 'FINALLY.'
Posted by: | June 17, 2008 at 09:16 AM
This just makes it obvious Charlie isn't ready for the national stage. Orange County is the most conservative county in California. I can't believe he didn't know that Reagan actually lived in Ventura County (a good 2 hour trip down The 5, the 10 and then the 110). Nixon lived in Orange County.
Way to make us proud, Charlie!!

8:32 in the words of Bill Murray in Stripes... "convicted? No never convicted!" Rubio surrounds himself with felons.
Posted by: | June 17, 2008 at 09:31 AM
Erin Issac ,why was she there?. This was a RPOF event, The RPOF Comm Director should have gone. Issac needs to be looked at for all this time she puts in on Political stuff while a State worker. Greer was in Charge, why did he not brief the Governor on the event.
Posted by: | June 17, 2008 at 10:55 AM
08.32am, you are so right about Erin Issac. Nobody wants to work with her, she's a kid who CC gives way to much input. The press corps talks about her behind her back all the time. She thinks she really runs the EOG, not Eric. If Greer or Eric was in Calf too, what could they do, Erin runs around and over anybody to get her way and CC lets her get away with it.
Posted by: | June 17, 2008 at 11:03 AM
It's All RPOF Chairman Greer's Fault.
Posted by: | June 17, 2008 at 11:05 AM
Charlie should have known that and Greer would have known that Arnold is very unpopular in the Republican stongholds like Orange County if he ever listened instead of telling everyone constantly how wonderful he and Crist is.
