Crist on oil drilling -- then and now
The place: a side meeting room in a hotel at Disney World, Oct. 20, 2007, the start of Presidency IV, the state Republican Party convention featuring all nine GOP presidential hopefuls. The questioner was David Jackson, a political reporter for USA Today (The Buzz still has it on tape).
Jackson: "I'm David Jackson from USA Today. What are Florida Republicans looking for in the next presidential nominee?"
Gov. Charlie Crist: "Well, somebody who cares about Florida. I think all these great candidates do. I think they want somebody -- I know they do -- who will help us with national catastrophic insurance. That's very important to us. Protecting our beautiful Everglades. It's not just a national treasure, it's an international treasure. Making sure that we don't drill for oil off our beautiful shore, and, of course, the other traditional things that go along with it."

"I mean, let's face it, the price of gas has gone through the roof, and Florida families are suffering," Crist said Tuesday. "And my heart bleeds for them." -Gov. Crist.
I KNEW he was a bleeding heart liberal.

Can someone please tell me why they think it is okay for Charlie to continually change his position? This is blatant flip-flop. It's not 'rethinking' anything. He will change his position according to what he is being told the public wants or in this case, to what McCain is saying. Be a little less obvious in your sucking up to the nominee Charlie. Your like a little puppy dog being led around by the leash. Pathetic excuse for a governor.

Amen Debbie.
But really, on this issue, I don't care.
DRILL NOW!

Crist has flip-flopped on abortion, gambling, gay marriage, even taxes and insurance.
His career and popularity is built on saying one thing one day, then flip-flopping when the polls and political winds shift.
Of course, this has never been a story, because Crist has mostly been flipping from conservative positions to liberal/populist positions. In the mind of the liberal reporters who cover him, this demonstrates enlightment on Crist's part. So desperate are these reporters to embrace Crist that they have overlooked his obvious pandering.
But now that Crist has flipped on a liberal position, the press corps is acting as if it is some fantastic revelation.

This guy is a joke and shamelessly, embarassingly trying to kiss McCain's butt to get the VP nod. I'm surprised he hasn't had a quickie wedding to Mrs. Rome yet. There's still time for that before the convention.

While Crist is on a roll with this offshore oil drilling deal, why doesn't he go for broke and also recommend right now a state income tax, and legalizing casino gambling, prostitution, marijuana, & gay marriages.

When times, and in this case economic conditions change, the smart person re-evaluates their position and acts accordingly. It is a major work of hypocrisy for the Democrat Party to nail anyone on changing their position. For over 200 years, this was the party that suppported slavery and vehemently opposed civil rights.
Thank God in the 1960s they changed their position (but only after Attorney General Robert Kennedy authorized the wire tapping and hotel bugging of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.) and flip-flopped on their outrageous opposition to equal rights for all races.
Be careful what you throw in that glass house Dems.

Offshore drilling in exchange for a federal Cat Fund.
I discussed this future conundrum over year and a half ago.
It's coming...

A report in Investor Business Daily says that if the U.S. drill for oil off Florida's coast, California's coast, the Gulf of Mexico, in Alaska, Wyoming & Colorado, we would have enough oil reserve that we would not need a single drop of Middle-East oil.
We have plenty of oil reserves here, but we have never explored for it because of the liberals.
