Harris' Recount review: 'Kind of outrageous'

Still mad at the media: Former Secretary of State Katherine Harris went on Hannity & Colmes Monday to protest her portrayal in Recount, the HBO film about the 2000 presidential election in Florida. With her was Joe Klock, the Democratic managing partner at from Steel, Hector & Davis, who headed up Harris' legal team during those wild five weeks, which gave the TV appearance a weird retro feel.

The ex-congresswoman's complaint is that filmmakers rewrote history by making other key characters, like Bush adviser James Baker, lappear strong, while she was portrayed by Laura Dern as unhinged by comparison and quoting Queen Esther in the Bible. "They make up my dialogue. The writer admits to making up scenes and dialogue, and it's kind of outrageous," she said. "I was never giddy."

Harris and Klock both objected to scenes from the movie showing veteran GOP operative J.M. (Mac) Stipanovich in the room with Harris. "The fact of the matter is that Mac Stipanovich did not sit in on any significant decisions," Klock told Fox. "The secretary sat with her lawyers and her team and made decisions on the spot." (News accounts at the time, in Newsweek and elsewhere, quoted Klock as saying Stipanovich was advising Harris as an "old family friend.")

I thought the movie didn't show how stupid she really is. This is the woman who, when she failed to resign to run for Congress, said that she shouldn't be expected to know all of Florida's election laws. I'd be surprised if she even remembers anything about the whole debacle since there's little chance that SHE sat in on any decision-making meetings.

The screenwriter of "Recount" (Danny Strong) called all of the principals portrayed in the movie.

The only two individuals who did not call him back were Katherine Harris and Theresa LePore.

Someone should dig up the actual t.v. footage of Ms. Harris from about 9 p.m. on election night. (every news organization was filming her)

I don't know what returns come in all day long (none until after the polls close), but on election day, she should have remembered that she actually had a job to do under the Constituion of the State and her role as state campaign chair GWB was over. Instead, she made one of many stupid statements that showed that she had no intention of running a fair election.

Katherine Harris had a chance to do things right and chose to play partisan politics instead. Gorge Bush had world events fall in such a way that if he had done things correctly and honestly, he could have gone down as one of the greatest Presidents in American History, Gorge failed both strategically and morally. I believe and hope that both will go in history as the morally corrupt people they showed themselves to be. Like I tell my children weigh each decision you make carefully as it will limit your options in the future, Katherine and Gorge both were living in the moment and failed to look long term at their options.

How funny is it that the Dems. make a movie about a vote-recount only to erase the vote-count years later. Maybe a movie should be made about why the Dems complained one year about voter fraud only to erase votes this year. This is typical of the Dem. party!
