Obama: no offshore drilling
At a stop in Jacksonville today, Sen. Barack Obama plans to tell reporters that he continues to support the federal ban on off-shore drilling. His Republican rival, Sen. John McCain, said this week he would like to lift the ban and let states decide whether to drill.
“And when I am President, I will keep the moratorium in place and prevent oil companies from drilling off Florida’s coasts,” Obama says. “That’s how we can protect our coasts and still make the investments that will reduce our dependence on foreign oil and bring down gas prices for good.”

Base per-gallon prices on vehicle fuel efficiency ratings.
Problem Solved!

Obama wants to RAISE the GAX TAX by $1.50 per gallon
While HE IS FLYING AROUND IN A PRIVATE JET and DRIVES AN SUV HE WANTS US TO RIDE THE BUS!
You had better believe that I will remember THAT in November!!!

Where is the "Change" in that stance? It's obvious we all want more domestic production, but Barry is just towing the company line here. Where is his out-of-the-box thinking? Just another lying pol. Good Lizzuck with those "swiftboat" ads coming your way!

BTW, there are oil rigs in Illinois Barry. So do as I say not as I do? Go eff yourself!

Can one of you guys explain to me why you are in favor of off-shore drilling?
Please don't respond stating "it will lower oil prices," or "so that we are not at the mercy of the Saudis," etc.
Those are results. I want to know why you feel that drilling for more oil will solve our energy problems. Specifically.
Please bear in mind the finite nature of oil, the lag in getting the oil to consumers, etc.

Idiots for Obama!

BARACK OBAMA & DEMOCRATS LOVE $5/GAL GAS. IN FACT, THEY PROBABLY WOULD NOT MIND $10/GAL.
THAT WOULD HELP THEM WITH THE ENVIRONMENTALISTS.
OBAMA & THE DEMOCRATS ARE SO OUT OF TOUCH WITH THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.

Obama is an unapologetic Marxist and proud of it. A greater scam has never been pulled on the American public since Jimmuh Carter, rabbit warrior.

America needs an energy policy that makes Americans independent from foreign oil.
Let the safe drilling begin.
Let the nuclear construction begin.

Obama is the black Jimmy Carter.

I don't know. What was it going for before the Democrats took control of Congress in 2006?

Why do we go begging to the Saudis and other OPEC members to increase production, yet stifle any attempt to increase domestic production of oil? Would not increased domestic production have some pay-off, if not immediately, five years down the road? Or do we simply go begging OPEC again five years from now?
How do we move toward "energy independence" by putting a punitive tax on oil companies, threatening to nationalize refineries, and quashing or impeding attempts to develop oil shale or build nuclear plants?
WOuld not a comprehensive plan that includes domestic oil production, oil shale, clean coal and nuclear, as well as conservation measures and alternative technologies, show a substantive commitment, and have an immediate effect on markets, possibly lowering the price of oil? The political class seems more inclined to sit on their hands, make threats, and come up with reasons why we can't do this or do that, rather than rely on American initiative and innovation to solve our energy problems.
The U.S. may never be independent of foreign oil, if domestic production can offset that dependence, and if most of our foreign oil is from Canada and Mexico and not Saudi Arabia and Venezuela, so much the better.

"""if not immediately, five years down the road"""
Are you kidding? Do you know how long it takes just to build a offshore drilling platform and get it into place?
I doubt we'd see a drop of oil from one of those rigs before 2030.

Who cares how long for the savings. Let's just have a plan that gets more oil into the system. Right now, that's McCain and he's getting my vote.

Posted by: | June 20, 2008 at 10:04 PM
It was selling for $2.19 and now at $4.08. So a big, big part of the "Bush" increase has come under the watch of the majority control Dems.
Gas prices up 40% under Clinton and 46% under Bush and up 87% under Pelosi and the Dems who have STOPPED any expanded drilling. So let's get them out and keep Obama (same as Carter) out!
Remember Nancy Pelosi promised us that the Dems would have the energy situation solved in six months.
I'm going with McCain's plan it is better that Obamas. His is just more of the increasing prices we have had under the Democrats since 2006. It's a no brainer.

Obama: NO, NO,....
McCain: YES, YES,....
John's the man!!!

11:16 What a packet of lies. You sound just like Bush, and recently, McCain.
Posted by: | June 20, 2008 at 11:43 PM
If you want cheaper gas, vote to get out of Iraq. The national debt will go down, and the dollar will go up. Gas prices will then go down.
What is the deal with Bushes and recessions? How do you rightwingers continue to support republicanism. It's a proven failure, just look around.
Posted by: | June 21, 2008 at 12:27 AM
11:16, that's some strange math. No wonder the economy sucks so bad under bush.
I'll take the price of gas under Clinton any day.
Posted by: | June 21, 2008 at 12:30 AM
Obama & the democrats do not mind $5 or $10/gal gas.
They want it more expensive to appease radical tree huggers.
Posted by: | June 21, 2008 at 02:09 AM
12:30AM--not strange math at all. Just the facts which you Obamabots and other Democrats want to walk away from in the same cowardly way you want to give up our country to foreign powers. Give up to foreign oil and give up to foreign terrorists. I have had enough of Pelosi and the liberals who are in the drivers seat. We don't need to add another at the top.
GO MCCAIN!

11:43 PM Yesterday,
These are the facts. The Dems are all talk and no action--just like their Messiah. We don't want higher gas prices and we are about to get hosed at the pump by Obama and the Dem majority

Senator Obama claims that "Offshore drilling would not lower gas prices today", tomorrow, next year or in five years. He should take a minute to review the "Law of Supply and Demand". This law has applied to commerce going back in time to when humans first started trading goods and services. It was a law of economics then and it is a law today.
When our Congress puts the world on notice that the US will be drilling for its own oil and digging for its own shale, the present and future value of oil will drop. The entire speculative premium in oil today will disappear overnight. And that downward price trend will continue as long as the world knows the US is serious and committed to taking action on its own behalf.
But if we go only halfway, or if the drilling and mining are hamstrung with new rules, taxes and fees, the rest of the world will correctly see that Congress is not behind its words and the price of energy will continue to rise.
Senator Obama is a smart man and should know this. So, you have to ask yourself- why is he trying to lead the country in the opposite direction?
Caveat Emptor.
