McCain in Orlando touts exp., defends war
Sen. John McCain just wrapped up a speech before newspaper editors in Orlando in which he sounded a hopeful message about the economy, railed against budget earmarks and reaffirmed his support of the war. He also tried to blunt criticism about his environmental record.
"I can look you in the eye and tell you it’s long and it's hard and it's tough and there are a lot of hurdles to overcome, but we are winning in Iraq now ," McCain said before a packed audience at a Disney hotel.
The Arizona Republican said the excessive use of earmarks -- funding for home base projects that are commonly derided as "pork" -- have created a cynical public and undercut attempts to overhaul Medicare and Social Security. "If we don’t go to them with clean hands ... and we've haven't been very careful in the use of every single one of their tax dollars, then they are not going to be willing to join in those much needed reforms."
McCain was asked about opposition to a bill that, among many other things, provided $2-billion for Everglades restoration. "I do not and will not and have been proud not to have voted for omnibus spending bills in which many cases there is no authorization nor is there hearings or scrutiny. I am committed to saving the Everglades. I will do whatever is necessary to do so."
McCain took few overt swipes at Sen. Barack Obama, saying he thinks the farm bill his Democratic challenger voted for recently was a handout to agribusiness. But mostly McCain touted his experience.
Responding to a question about what he would do to prevent the sexism and racism that tinged the Democratic primary, McCain said Obama had "inspired people in American in a very, very impressive way."
He added: "I will do everything I can to keep that kind of ugliness out of this political campaign."

Donald - tiresome argument about Congress.
Flag is right, if you won't admit certain basic truths, you're not worth talking to. Put down the Kool-Aid and undergo some de-programming.

Want to see what would come along with a continuation of "conservative" control?
http://www.experiencefestival.com/heritage_foundation_-_mandate_for_leadership
It's a lot of reading, and you really ought to read the 1000-page original version of "Mandate for Leadership" (sic) as well as the latest, to see how well the new conservatives are doing with their agenda. But the country is at the point where the legacy of R spending, debt formation, de-taxing certain base elements, government growth and all those things they accuse Ds of doing is starting to come home to roost.
Want some housing bankruptcies and foreclosures with your financial market de-regulation? Less safety in air travel and medicines and food sources and (thanks to the magnitude of ineptitude and venality in the making of the Department of Homeland Security) incompetent border protection and continued warfare between FBI, CIA and NSC, continued procurement of irrelevant Cold-Warrior war toys like the F-22 and V-22 while body armor and armored vehicles to actually "support our troop" languish, and little-noticed failures like the "mission creep" and flat budget of the Coast Guard? Keep it up, you Viagra guys.
On the other hand, maybe we should just all kill each other and let our various Gods sort us all out.
Any more it's not even worth asking if we can do better and "Can't we all just get along?."

10:47. I'm all for that! Why don't we give war a chance? I'm sick of taking a peaceful approach with head-loppers anyway. That's why we need the F-22!

Are we really evolving into a race of killers, like Donald Lance. God help us!

As a "libidiot", I've got to admit that I am worried. My latest informal poll of BUZZ blog postings shows McCain supporters way way way ahead of Obama supporters. But only if you count the same troll at 1:34 posting ad infinitum as separate votes.

the liberal washington post is starting to sound a lot like mccain defending the war effort

The issues of health care, gas prices, food costs, and a geenral malaise have exposed the Reupblican revolution for the fraud that is it, and will continue to be.
Actually taking care of problems and not lining the pockets of our wealthy friends and campaign contributors would truly expose compassionate conservatism for the fraud it is.
Real people will vote out the Republican sham and they are those who don't have Daddy's money to open doors for them and buy jobs for them to work like GW Bush.
Both George W. and Jeb are lining their pockets at the public's expense and getting tax breaks too! Won't history judge them harshly, you bet. Vote Democrat for a party of change to replace Conservative, Republican stagnation!!
