FL Poll: Obama 46%; McCain 45%
Rasmussen: "Barack Obama has caught up to John McCain in Florida. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the state finds Obama with a statistically insignificant one-point advantage over his rival, 46% to 45%. When “leaners” are included, the Democrat leads 49% to 47%. Over the past six months, McCain has maintained leads ranging from seven to sixteen percentage points. Last month, McCain led 48% to 41% in the Sunshine State.
"A big push for Obama this month in Florida comes from unaffiliated voters. Last month, he had just a three-point lead in this demographic. This month, he leads by twenty-three. Obama leads 50% to 43% among women in Florida, while McCain leads 47% to 41% among men. The Democrat has double-digit leads among voters under 40 years of age, while McCain has a big lead among senior citizens. "

I'm voting for McCain because he's white and I prefer voting for a white person.

Which moves Crist back into the top 5 on McCain's VP shortlist...
Posted by: Campaign Manager | July 23, 2008 at 02:11 PM
Does that number include 98% of blacks voting?
These polls mean nothing!
How about a poll on how many people believe the poll?

These polls have outlived their usefulness due to Cell Phones. The consultants just haven’t told you pinheads cause you keep writing checks.
Obama 53%
McCain 45%
The other guy 2%

How much has Mrs. Rome paid Rasmussen to release a poll showing Obama ahead? The only way Cristi gets picked as VP is if it looks like McCain would lose Florida on his own and needs Cristi's help. Every time a poll shows McCain ahead, Cristi's chances go down. When's the wedding to Mrs. Rome?

Why on earth would seniors vote for McCain when he's admitted he's for cutting their benefits and putting an end to social security???

Crist and McCain both down. Florida's finally waking up to the facts: Republicans are the Problem.

Dear Dr. Dug,
I assume that you consider Fox News to be a reliable source of news and information. If so, you should know that this is the polling firm used by Fox News.
The results of the poll show that Obama is virtually tied with McCain about a month after he was trailing by 5%-6%. This firm uses a methodology which dramatically reduces the variability of its day to day polling outcomes, so while it is very fair to say that the one point "lead" for Obama is statistically meaningless, it also important to realize that something has changed about how the voters see these two candidates in the last two to three weeks causing a shift over over 5%.
Personally, I think that this increases the internal pressures on the Obama camp to consider Florida running mates even more than McCain although I feel that ultimately getting a Florida VP on either ticket is highly unlikely. There is virtually no way for the Republicans to win the Presidency without Florida, while the Democrats have several paths to victory without Florida's 27 electoral votes.

Maybe Obama should pick C. Crist. After all, they are cut from the same mold. Just happens one is black and one is white.

ouisiana DEQ Monitors Oil Spill Near New Orleans, Urges Effected Residents
Written by: BayouBuzz Staff
The DEQ has sent out this notice concerning the major oil spill occurring on the Mississippi River in which 9980 barrels of oil were lost:
On July 23, at approximately 2 a.m., a collision between a ship and a barge occurred on the Mississippi River at mile marker 98, near Harahan, splitting the barge in half. The barge was carrying #6 fuel oil and lost all of its contents, estimated at 9980 barrels. The barge came to rest at mile marker 97 at the Crescent City Connection Bridge.
DEQ emergency responders notified all parishes impacted by the release so that they could take action to protect their water intakes. Parishes shut down their intakes and booms have been deployed around the intakes. Booms were also deployed to protect sensitive wildlife habitats and to contain the oil. The Freshwater Diversion Project at Braithwaite has been diverted with containment boom. Clean up contractors are on site and will begin skimming operations to recover the oil.
Air monitoring, in high traffic areas, such at Riverwalk and the French Quarter, is ongoing. DEQ has emergency responders with a portable air monitor moving around New Orleans where the river is impacted. The air monitor shows low readings of hydrocarbons below any action levels.
Department of Health and Hospital officials are urging residents in the Algiers, St. Bernard, Dalcour and Belle Chase water systems to conserve water, as the intakes have been shut down. These systems have water reserves, but if the reserves run out, and sampling of the finished water shows elevated contaminants, contracts with the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness to deliver water to the affected areas could be activated at the request of the individual parishes. For more information call the DHH Bureau of Media and Communications at 225-342-1532.
DEQ will continue monitoring, working with incident command and assessing the environmental impact of the spill in the affected area.

Not Jindal; A Visit To An Oil Rig
23 Jul 2008 12:24 pm
So the reason why Sen. John McCain is traveling to Louisiana tomorrow has nothing to do with Gov. Bobby Jindal, per se
The McCain campaign tells us that, hurricane-condition permitting, McCain will chopper out to an oil rig and talk about off-shore oil drilling.
As Jonathan Martin notes, the idea is to provide some TV quality pictures to contrast Sen. Barack Obama's rally in Berlin.
The campaign blames the press for it, but the pictures associated with McCain this week haven't been terrific.
McCain was shown sitting on a golf cart with former President Bush. (Press's fault.) McCain stood before a white background at his press availability yesterday at an energy company in New Hampshire thereby reducing the contrast between his white hair and the background.
(Press's fault.)
The New Hampshire Union Leader reported that only one photographer showed up to record McCain's airport arrival. (Press's fault.)

3:52 Great job! I guess you can't count out the hand of God when it comes to ruining a evil GOP photo op. Will McCain be visiting the spill site on the way back from the oil rig?
Where's the pro-drilling dipstick who posted here a few days ago about the lack of oil pollution in the New Orleans area? Probably trying to wash the oil out of his hair right now.

NO WONDER, McAiNUS is sinking!!
See the following from AMERICAblog:
"Liberal bloggers are hammering John McCain for incorrectly asserting that the Iraq troop surge "began the Anbar Awakening" (in reality, the Anbar Awakening began months before the surge strategy was implemented). Liberal bloggers are describing McCain's statement as a "breathtaking" mistake that "disqualifies him from being president". They're also tying McCain's remark to his other Iraq-related misstatements -- such as confusing Shiites and Sunnis and making an incorrect statement about troop levels -- and arguing that the presumptive GOP nominee is ignorant of basic facts about Iraq."
he's becoming as incoherent and senile as ray-gun, right before our eyes!!

Honest Bill, Is it just me or did you forget his mother, who raised him is white? Regardless, I must say at least you said it like you feel and did not make up excuses. I am white too, but I need somebody with different views on the country. White or Black, with gas prices, the economy and an expensive war, we need something different. I'M A DAMN NEAR BROKE WHITE MAN AND I AM TIRED!!!
Posted by: | July 23, 2008 at 04:46 PM
Doesn't matter, I'm still voting white. If Obama's people can vote for him because he's black, why can't I vote for McCain as my white candidate. Many of the Obama supporters don't know anymore about him than I do McCain. So I'll go with the "race" that I trust. We don't just need different---we need someone to trust. Frankly, I trust my kind more!!

This is from the Real Clear Politics VP Watch:
Paging Charlie Crist
Six weeks ago McCain was winning Florida in nearly every poll, and it looked as if adding Charlie Crist to the ticket was not only unnecessary but might further alienate some conservatives as well. But with the release of Rasmussen's new FL survey today showing Obama with a two point lead over McCain - a 9-point net reversal from his last survey at the end of June - the two are now tied in the RCP Average for Florida at 45.8% each.
So McCain may want to dig up Charlie Crist's phone number, because it's impossible to see how he gets into the White House if he loses the Sunshine State.

B.H. Obama replaced his Boeing 737 campaign plane with a Boeing 757. The new aircraft had a giant flag painted on its tail.
In yet another display of his patriotism, Obama replaced the American flag with the Obama Logo. Obama’s 757 was repainted “with the Obama sunrise logo on the tail.”
Oh, the audacity of Obama’s ego! What’s next: replace our Constitution with the Black Liberation Mantra????

"It’s time for the Arizona Senator to stop whining about the media that has, on the whole, been as kind to him as it has been to Obama, man up, and wage an honorable campaign of “straight talk” like the one he has been promising. McCain, if he lets Schmidt run wild, McCain will quickly lose his best asset and most prized possession--his honor. If McCain can't run on his honor, then what is his brand anyway?"

Obama has bought into Gorism and thinks we can hope and change our way magically to "wind, solar, and millions of new jobs in green energies"; McCain will close the border first and discuss the thorny issues later; Obama won't. McCain will cut federal spending and pay off debt, Obama wants a trillion dollars in new entitlements; McCain won't raise taxes; Obama's could make the top brackets pay, European-style, 65 percent in state and federal taxes, and stifle economic growth with new levies on capital gains, inheritances, payroll, and income; McCain will appoint judges who follow and interpret, not create, laws; Obama will do the opposite; McCain knows the military and what it can do to protect American interests; Obama wants to create a shadow civilian force “that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded” as the $500 billion a year Pentagon.

A violent Mr. Obama?
June 2008
"If they bring a knife to the fight," he told a crowd in Philadelphia Friday night, "we bring a gun."
August 2007
Obama said if elected in November 2008 he would be willing to attack inside Pakistan with or without approval from the Pakistani government, a move that would likely cause anxiety in the already troubled region.
"If we have actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets and President Musharraf won't act, we will," Obama said.

Whoever you are about the cell phones...it won't happen.
The fact remains:
Obama SHOULD be up much more than he is in polls and the number has floated at the edge of a statistical tie.
If Dems aren't worried. They should be.
Imagine if Hillary were in the race right now.
I'd imagine that she'd be up 8-10% nationally and have close to 10% leads in OH, PA, and VA.
Shoulda picked Hillary.
