Grimes & Young partner tossed BlackBerry
The business parther of Rep. C.W. Bill Young's daughter-in-law threw away her BlackBerry and some travel records in an effort to hide evidence from federal investigators, according to a document filed in federal court.
Cecelia Grimes, the partner in a Media, Penn. lobbying firm with Cindy Young, the Pinellas congressman's daughter-in-law, has agreed to plead guilty to destroying the records, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Grimes, who was being interviewed as part of an influence-peddling investigation into Rep. Curt Weldon, a Republican from the Philadelphia suburbs, was given subpoenas seeking records of her two lobbying firms, their clients, and Grimes' travel and e-mails. She instead filled trash bags with records, including check stubs, records of airline and Amtrak travel, an invitation to a Weldon fund-raiser, and RSVP cards for a dinner honoring Weldon. The FBI recovered the bags from trash cans next to Weldon's house.
Grimes later dropped her BlackBerry into a trash can at an Arby's restaurant, according to a court filing.
Weldon, who lost a bid for re-election, has not been charged and has said he is innocent. Grimes is cooperating with the investigation.
The St. Petersburg Times reported in 2006 that Cindy Young arranged three meetings between her defense contractor clients and Rep. Young. Two of her clients got money in Young's appropriations bill, but the congressman said it was based on merit and he gave no favoritism toward his daughter-in-law's clients.

so just because her partner is a low life why does that mean the congressmans daughter in law is? another good head piece adair.

unbelievable Adair what you just tried to make the readers believe. How do you sleep at night?
Posted by: | July 16, 2008 at 09:24 AM
Why would someone destroy all that, if there was nothing to hide?
Just evidence that this whole administration need to be investigated. Out with the old, in with the new!
Posted by: | July 16, 2008 at 09:35 AM
CC grimes destroying things has nothing to do with the bush administration or congressman young, r-tard.
i love how the st pete times loves to try and sling mud at congressman young. now for all of you enlightened liberals who think you are so smart, lets walk through this....
FBI is investigating grimes and weldon, NOT young. if the FBI thought young or his daughter in law were doing anything wrong they would be subject of an investigation as well, and i have read nothing in these articles saying they are. the articles all say that it is weldon and grimes being investigated, yet bill adair (probably because of his little napolean complex) still tries to make a good congressman look bad. you are a true low life adair and i hope your kids grow up to hate you.

Time to vote for CHANGE
Look, to be head of house appropriations, there must be more skeletons in his closet than any other crook in our goverment. Just get real, if even for a moment.
Posted by: | July 16, 2008 at 10:05 AM
So 10:05,
Every member that has ever been the Chairman of the Appropriations Committee must be dirty???? That is the same logic that the SPT uses to write these ridiculous hit pieces. Neither Mr. Young nor his daughter-in-law are under investigation. Reason? They have done nothing wrong.....

Alright you Young pimps… get back to work trying to figure out how to shield CW from this mess. Looks like the water-walker might be sinking a tad.
Hey AJS, how’s the earmarks for the CW “Bill” Young Center for Homeless Vets coming?
Posted by: | July 16, 2008 at 10:32 AM
10:32, why dont you make an appointment to go meet with the congressman at his office in DC and talk to him about this earmark you so adamently blog about. rather than being like the typical liberal and talking a big game and doing nothing, why don't you do something?
Posted by: | July 16, 2008 at 10:36 AM
Whichever of the 3 little dorks win the democratic primary will get embarassed come november.
Count on it
Posted by: | July 16, 2008 at 10:41 AM
I guess I need to remind you yet again that I don't work for any member of Congress. Mr. Young has done more for our nations Veterans than you could hope to do in a lifetime. As the poster above said, why don't you man-up and make a phone call?
Posted by: AJS | July 16, 2008 at 10:56 AM
AJS if he manned up and actually tried to do something there would be two problems with the outcome that he and the other conspirators would hate:
1) if he did have a good proposal and young helped, then he would realize young wasn't so bad, then who would he bash all day on blogs?
2) his cover would be blown and everyone would know max linn was anonymously blogging negatively about the congressman
Posted by: boom, lol | July 16, 2008 at 11:15 AM
Why didn't they just have a shredding party a la clinton's and Ollie North?
Posted by: Donald Lance | July 16, 2008 at 11:17 AM
Any chance you'll answer the questions, or will you just keep pimping the tag line?
Posted by: | July 16, 2008 at 11:19 AM
... thought so!
Posted by: | July 16, 2008 at 12:04 PM
I'm still waiting on you to answer why you won't call and ask the question yourself....or did 11:15 hit it on the head, Max?

Parents cannot always be responsible for their grown children or in-laws. I say this in defense of Mr. Young.
That being said, there is no way that Mr. Young's daughter-in-law did not know what was going on with her obviously corrupt business partner. She knew what was going on and will now pay the price.
Jail time is near.
Posted by: Out-Laws amongst the In-Laws | July 16, 2008 at 01:37 PM
Bill Young works for our vets?
This would be the same Mr. Young who "couldn't" get anyone to listen when Ol' Bill "complained" about conditions at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, horrid conditions later exposed by the Washington Post.
You mean to tell me no one listens to the (then) House Appropriations Chairman and now ranking Republican in the House and ranking member of the House Appropriations subcommittee on Defense and subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs?
Oh, and remember something else. How did Bill Young endeared himself in Pinellas? Rather than fix an overburdened Veterans Administration, Bill Young made sure you had to go through his office to untie the red tape and get an appointment.
Posted by: | July 16, 2008 at 02:45 PM
For those keeping score from home in western St. Petersburg, in the Raytheon pollution plume, note this:
C.W. Bill Young has received more than $60,000 in campaign contributions from Raytheon, according to OpenSecrets.org. That includes $7,500 this election cycle, $11,300 in 2006, $10,000 in 2004, $7,000 in 2002, $8,000 in 2000 and $4,000 in 1998.
So why was the federal government not looking into the pollution with vigilance for oh-these-many years? I dunno. I misplaced my Blackberry.

Outlaws: How do you know that the daughter -in law knew what her business partner was doing in her private life? Get real. First of all, the partner did a plea deal so there is no "jail time" for the partner.
I have 3 business partners and have no idea what they do when they exit these doors, and I don't want to know. You must be one of those nosy neighbors.
Obviously the partner was probably having a little romantic interlude with the man from PA. and I doubt they invited Cindy Young along. Once again, Get Real.
Posted by: | July 16, 2008 at 03:09 PM
to Gene Smith:
Young doesn't need any one to shield him from any mess. cindy Youngs partner obviously led a second life from her job and her family and it is absolutely disgusting that Bill Adair continues his little man hunt on Bill Youngs kids. It makes me sick. Whats worse is his editors approve it. We have a forgiving God, but only to a point.
Thank you Mr. Young for your Service to the People of Pinellas County. It is so sad that, because it is an election year and the Times wants a democrat in ,that they would stoop this low to continually ridicule, harrass and attempt to insult your children.
We will pray for you and your family to have the strength to tolerate this continued harrassment by a once reputable paper.
Posted by: | July 16, 2008 at 03:17 PM
3:01: Time to wake up. the federal gov't is and has been looking into the mess with Raytheon with Young at the lead. Good try, Smith.
Posted by: | July 16, 2008 at 03:18 PM
Grow up with the anti-Times comments. The Times is an enabler. Bill Adair has covered our congressmember as if he is Bill Young's illegitimate child (and still in the will).
That Mr. Adair is doing anything remotely resembling journalism these days is a treat.
Posted by: | July 16, 2008 at 03:42 PM
I don't think constantly attacking someones children for a headline is considered "journalism" in any sense of the word.
Posted by: AJS | July 16, 2008 at 03:58 PM
You would have to have kids to know the pain Mr. Adair has caused. I think Vince Foster said it best when it comes to this "Ruining peoples lives is a sport in Washington". Well, Mr. Adair appears to be a pro athlete. Kudos to him.
Posted by: | July 16, 2008 at 06:09 PM
Let's talk about getting real. This story belongs to the media in Pennsylvania. This is a Curt Weldon/C.C. Grimes story and the Times just HAD to throw in Congressman Youngs daughter-in-law, because of why? I think it is obvious. I doubt if Ms. Grimes was going to include or share her sordid story with anyone, including her partner or husband. Both are innocent victims of whatever crime she committed. My heart goes out to her husband and children and to Cindy Young for the beating she is taking from the Times. I hope her children aren't old enough to witness this atrocity and be affected by the stress this must be causing. It's a shame Mrs. Youngs career and personal life will be affected by this brutal attack.

Outlaws:
Mr. Young is quite proud of his daughter-in-law. She graduated the top of her class in law school and if you read any of the law reviews, she has been published numerous times. She is far from stupid and I hope she sues the paper for their constant attempts to disparage her reputation because of the Times obvious dislike for her father in law.
Posted by: | July 16, 2008 at 06:19 PM
Will his daughter-in-law help convince CW to pony up my taxes for the CW "Bill" Young Center for Homeless Vets?
... or will she need a job in the future.
Posted by: | July 17, 2008 at 08:33 AM
8:33:
His daughter-in-law has a juris doctorate and a degree in chemical engineering. I doubt she needs your help or taxes for anything, moron. As a lawyer, she may be able to get you some free psychiatric counseling with YOUR VERY OWN TAXDOLLARS, Susan.

Destroying evidence and attempting to destroy evidence -- especially so much -- deserves the maximum penalty - both incarceration and fines.
Posted by: | July 17, 2008 at 10:24 AM
Some of you posters don't understand.
In order for the readers to better understand, the names of their business or lobbying associates is essential in a news article.
Otherwise, who the heck is the central person?
Posted by: | July 17, 2008 at 10:26 AM
“Fry the wench… as long as I get another building named after me and the boys have a job, at taxpayers expense… we’re good!”
Love,
CW
Posted by: | July 17, 2008 at 02:41 PM
10:24: What you are failing to comprehend is that it is C.C. Grimes that was involved with Weldon, it was C.C. Grimes that violated the law, itwas C.C. Grimes that destroyed whatever the evidence was, and it is the FBI that is doing the prosecuting. Not you. And Youngs daughter-in-law has nothing to do with it, but you just cant accept that.
Posted by: | July 17, 2008 at 03:45 PM
Ahhhh Susan Smith of the Hillsborough County Democratic Committee and is up and running. Hi honey! How's that hateful mean streak of yours going? Looks like it is going good. Maybe a a face lift, boob job, tummy tuck and some liposuciton might make you feel a little better about yourself. Just a suggestion. You had to take some time off of your professional blogging but it would be worth it in the long run.
Posted by: | July 17, 2008 at 03:47 PM
What you fail to understand 10:26 is that this should not be a SPT story at all. This has nothing to do with Cindy Young and Bill Adair only ran this story in an attempt to vilify a woman simply because of his contempt for her father. The SPT has taken the low-road, in the same spirit as entertainment news shows, and should in no way be considered a reputable news source.

This is outrageous and disgusting! Mr. Young has been helping anyone and everyone for the past 40 plus years. To the St. Pete Times: This is far past humorous and beyond Trash. If we have come to this point in society, what behavioral pattern will you suggest after the presidential elections? You are scaring me.

I'm curious. Does A.Hacker support or oppose Bill Young> What do you say, a.hacker?
Posted by: | July 18, 2008 at 12:00 AM
I heard Cindy Young has already filed a lawsuit against her "once Partner" for numerous reasons. Good for her. She isn't going to let this criminal take her down! Obviously very smart woman.
Posted by: | July 18, 2008 at 12:45 AM
to Cindy Young:
You go girl _ I would sue your partner for every penny she has. She knew what she was doing and she should have been honest enough to tell you she was in trouble so you could have taken your company and walked before it got affected. My husband said he would be happy to represent you, he says you have a great case. If you are interested we will arrange a meeting. Looking forward to your response.

2:45pm:
the conditions were exposed by the Washington Post, because, Mrs. Young WENT to the Washington Post and exposed them because the SP Times didn't think it was newsworthy. You don't know the facts, so you shouldn't be stating issues you know nothing about. You weren't there in Washington, you weren't at Walter Reed, the Youngs were, and probably you never will be at Walter Reed. Why, because all you amount to is a big mouth who just wants to spew hatred. leave the troops out of your politics. they deserve better and they don't need you. period.
