McCain the real hero of immigration reform, Diaz-Balart says

U.S. Rep. Lincoln Diaz-Balart wants you to know: It wasn’t Democrat Barack Obama who was backing the comprehensive immigration reform bill that tanked last year, it was Republican Sen. John McCain.

“I as a House member was intimately involved in many of the meetings where Sen. McCain was leading the effort to get comprehensive reform passed,” Diaz-Balart, R-Miami, said in a conference call organized by the McCain campaign. “And Sen. Obama was consistently and absolutely AWOL, nowhere to be seen, in any of the meetings that we had on this issue of immigration.

"It is absurd for him now to take credit for that legislation… He was absolutely a non-player.”

McCain, of course has been trying to reverse the damage done to himself among many conservative voters by pushing that immigration bill, which called for securing the borders but also sought a route to legal status for millions of illegal immigrants.

But that bill is a big reason why McCain, not Obama, will do better among Hispanics come November, Diaz-Balart said.

McCain and Obama both spoke to the League of United Latin American Citizens in Washington Tuesday, and both addressed the need for immigration reform. Obama said he “reached across the aisle in the Senate” to fight for it.

Diaz-Balart, who is facing a tough reelection contest from former Hialeah Mayor Raul Martinez, said Obama will also suffer for his opposition to the Columbia free trade agreement.

Mccain is the Hero of Butt monkeys, that's it.

Cheri Jacobus, former Hill staff, posted a little blurb:

"Just how much Senate experience does Barack Obama have in terms of actual work days? Not much. From the time Barack Obama was sworn in as a United State Senator, to the time he announced he was forming a Presidential exploratory committee, he logged 143 days...After 143 days of work experience, Obama believed he was ready to be Commander In Chief, Leader of the Free World, and fill the shoes of Abraham Lincoln, FDR, JFK and Ronald Reagan. 143 days -- I keep leftovers in my refrigerator longer than that. In contrast, John McCain's 26 years in Congress, 22 years of military service including 1,966 days in captivity as a POW in Hanoi now seem more impressive than ever."

John McCain could never get me to vote for him. Senator 'do-nothing' Obama can.

Of course, both those numbers are less than the amount of time Bush has spent on vacation since he became president.

Clearly, both Diaz-Balart brothers are seeing numbers out of their districts they don't like. They need McCain's performance to improve so that he can shore up the GOP brand and help them keep their seats, because a surprisingly poor showing by McCain in their districts will almost certainly mean victories my Martinez and Garcia, respectively.

thats why we are not voting for McAmnesty.

Signed,
A Republican

Just how much Senate experience does Barack Obama have in terms of actual
work days? Not much.

From the time Barack Obama was sworn in as a United State Senator, to the
time he announced he was forming a Presidential exploratory committee, he
logged 143 days of experience in the Senate. That's how many days the Senate
was actually in session and working.

After 143 days of work experience, Obama believed he was ready to be
Commander In Chief, Leader of the Free World, and fill the shoes of Abraham
Lincoln, FDR, JFK and Ronald Reagan.

143 days -- I keep leftovers in my refrigerator longer than that

The question remains, how much has Barry already screwed this nation in those 143 days? Go and check out his voting record and the bills he sponsored. You will be extremely unimpressed with his lack of accomplishments. And he wants to be POTUS? I have a used country for sale if anybody believes he is the answer.

Hey now, Donald. Obama was the Harvard Law Review "Head", ya know?

He turned south Chicago from poor to broke, ya know?

McSame is part of the problem with this country.

“And Sen. Obama was consistently and absolutely AWOL, nowhere to be seen, in any of the meetings that we had on this issue of immigration.

"It is absurd for him now to take credit for that legislation… He was absolutely a non-player.”

Isn't that just typical Obama m.o.-- taking credit for other people's work? I've read many reports outlining very clearly how he was given legislation that he had nothing to do with to help build his 'resume' in his state senate stint.

He's a puppet, he's a puppet pull his strings.

But the real problem is, it's yet another election where neither candidate gives me any measure of confidence.

Amnesty is NOT reform it's rewarding those that broke the law & then letting them jump the line waiting to get in this country! That's one of the reasons McCain will never be President! Democrats are more likely to go along with amnesty, so it won't stop them from voting for Obama!

Barack "Hussein" Obama will soon be on the list of those jokers who are nothing but a punch line in the political history: Dukakis, Mondale, Ferraro, Kerry, Gore..
Thanks for the laughs and good times. You can have the Congress Till November, you ran that into the ground too.
War on Iraq!!

What a surprise that the south florida amnesty crowd would consider mcamnesty a hero. If that is the case take him with you back to cuba and name him batista's replacement. Then all of you can give welfare and amnesty to all the hatians you want.

Amnesty is one of the few issues with which I don't agree. So if McSame wants to take credit for it, go right ahead. Not so many DEMs support Amnesty as the GOP would like you to believe. I've got 100s of other reasons not to vote for McSame, and if he ever said anything I agreed with, I wouldn't believe him for a minute. Flip - Flop. What do you want to hear today to get my vote?

McCain is nobody's hero. Even Republicans will hold their noses while voting for him.

Barack Obama is a RACIST.

Tick tock tick tock...still waiting on anything Obama has done in the Senate to merit the highest office in the land.

9:13 As always, Toady, it's not the question, it's you that's not worth bothering with.

ummm, ok
besides the point that you have no idea how to answer a question on your own, or what the heck your party stands for.
kool aid is good and yummy!!

Toady, what part of "not worth bothering with" can't you understand? Try not preceding your question with "Barack Obama...Racist." That would be a good start. Maybe you'll grow up in time to debate the run up to 2010.

9:37

He's got his weird little frog pictures, sounds, recipes, and comebacks to debate with, Hussein.

C'mon, give the guy some slack. Maybe next election he'll pick a candidate that's actually accomplished something.

Nobama = BAD for America.

Senator Obama feels that it is more important for American children to learn Spanish than for immigrants to learn English...what sense does this make and why is the Sen. so ashamed of the English language?

McCain's economic policy:

http://edition.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/07/08/mccain/index.html#cnnSTCText?iref

I'm still laughing! I love Obama's measured response. Why dignify crack pipe economics with a serious rebuttal?

Here's a summary:

Continue Bush tax cuts for the wealthy.
Continue war in Iraq.
Government Subsidies for Coal and Nuclear Energy Industries.
Government Subsidies to re-tool Auto Industry.

But, but, but...Senator McCain how will we pay for all that new spending???

"The magical US economic explosion of growth that will result!"

What a dolt! He wasn't kidding whe he said he was ignorant of economics.

"According to that analysis, McCain's plan would result in a revenue loss of $3.6 trillion, while Obama's would lead to a revenue loss of $2.7 trillion over the next decade."

McCain will balance our budget by outspending the "socialist" Obama.

Right!!!

Even UF students are waking up to Obama's chameleon characteristics:

In the past couple of weeks, however, Obama has transitioned from moderating his positions to downright flip-flopping. Although Obama had previously vowed to filibuster any legislation that would grant immunity from prosecution to telecommunications companies who enabled the Bush administration to break the law and conduct domestic spying operations without a warrant, Obama has since changed his tune. He now supports a so-called “compromise” measure that effectively amounts to another congressional capitulation to the White House. As disconcerting and disappointing as Obama’s rhetorical gymnastics on warrantless wiretapping is, it isn’t the most troubling of his recent waffling.

Last week, Obama left open the possibility that he would “refine” his position on the redeployment of troops from Iraq, depending on the conditions he encounters on the ground and the advice of military commanders he talks to on his upcoming trip to the war-torn country. To be fair, Obama has not officially announced any change in his plans to withdraw troops from Iraq , but the simple fact that he is allowing himself the wiggle room to do so is depressing, to say the least.

Perhaps Obama isn’t the great change agent we thought he was. Perhaps no one can change the system. Or maybe we expected too much from someone who is, after all, just another politician. Instead of riding a wave of change to the ballot box, we are faced with the age-old “lesser of two evils” paradigm: Perpetual war and inequitable economic policies on the one hand, and spineless triangulation on the other.

Quagmire - "a situation from which one can neither move forward nor retreat."

I honestly think that Obama may have to re-think his commitment to withdraw from Iraq in 16 months. It's a great ideal, and shows his absolute opposition to the war, but if it's not practical, that doesn't mean he's changed his mind. Neither Obama nor McCain have all the required information to make that call at this point. All they can do is state a position. "If it can be done, I'm going to do it." Obama wants us out as soon as possible, McCain will keep us there indefinitely.

Obama was still the only candidate to correctly oppose the war from day one. McCain should have admitted his mistake instead of pandering to the increasingly diminishing base of Bushlings that still support this war.

The ethical thing to do would be to impeach Cheney and Bush for getting us into the quagmire in the first place.

So what is Rep. Diaz-Balart's point exactly? That McCain is an even worse traitor than the Obamanation? Okay.

While courting the Hispanic vote, Mr. Obama had some interesting comments about speaking Spanish. To hear what he had to say, go to youtube.com and search for: Barack Obama: Your Children Should Learn To Speak Spanish.

What he said was that immigrants who come to this country will learn English. I know from many first hand experiences that this not true. He also said that everyone should make sure their children can speak Spanish. Mr. Obama, that is not a decision for you to make; that is a decision for the parents to make. It has no part in presidential politics.

In fact, listening to his remarks, it sounds more like a stand-up comic routine which is what Mr. Obama should consider for his next career. How could anyone take this guy seriously? He is highly unqualified for the job and every time he opens his mouth, it becomes more apparent.

Senator McCain needs America's support.

11:42, I'm not sure what country you live in, but, HERE we fight to win.

It's stupid to say we shouldn't have gone into this war in the first place. 2003 was a different time where the nation was still sore from 9/11 and afraid that al Qaeda would work with Hussein to hit us. You do remember that in one day on 9/11 almost 3,000 innocent people were killed, don't you?

We certainly found the materials to make WMD, Hussein himself was sqwauking that he had them, and he had violated many sanctions and inspections. Oh yeah, and he killed a few hundred thousand of his own people.

McCain was the ONLY voice in the "desert" saying, "ok, we're in this situation, let's find a smart way out of it". Obama was puffing his chest out and playing Arm Chair General. McCain was being a leader and figuring out a way to protect the nation.

Being President isn't a video game and you don't get any do-over press conferences. The POTUS is WAY over Obama's head.

Hey Lil’ Johnny Napoleon; here’s a thought…

Why don’t you try enforcing the current law before you BS the voters into thinking you’d enforce a new one!

… Geriatric Johnny is getting very desperate.

12:52 Revisionist History and a bunch of chest thumping. Typical GOP lies. There were no WMD and Bush and Cheney knew it full well. Woo woo, we fight to win! The Iraqis were a real challenge. Now look - we've won the battle and lost the war. At least Obama was smart enough to predict the long term outcome.

Now lets impeach Cheney and Bush for war crimes.

12:52 AM "I'm not sure what country you live in, but, HERE we fight to win."
When did that policy start? I must have missed that? What happened in Korea, Vietnam and now in Iraq? Does the current Administration know about this policy? Or did they totally mismanage this war because they are incompetent?

Maybe I'm missing something here, but what Lincoln says sure does not seem to help McCain, except maybe with Lincoln's own voters, and that's a big difference from all of Florida and the country.

The biggest problem our country has is leadership by the Democrats in Congress. Out with them!!!

With friends like those, who needs enemeies?

? Why are we discussing comments that the Balart(fart) brothers said. They have no political power. Talk about sponorsing legislation, what have they done since they have been in office besides talk about Fidel 24/7. Also, McCain's economic policy is not plausable. Every economist besides his own (brings back memories of Bush) have said it wont work (all of Bush's bad policies). Why does he think he has the smartest economist that noone knows. I really wish someone would explain how he will be generating revenue. LOL... Some people just have a closed vision to the facts. "My Friends"... eventhough i never met you.

Forgot to mention: Why is the Fart brother invovled in immigration reform. The only thing he cares about is the wet foot/ dry foot policy to keep his immigrant friends here. He is not Hispanic like Cubans tend to say. They are "Cuban". Hispanics are the mexicans and stuff,, we are "Cuban".

Seriously, True Story.
