Obama and the keys to the city
ST. PETERSBURG--City officials want to give Sen. Barack Obama, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, a key to the city. Thing is, Obama's people aren't sure they want it.
City Council Member Karl Nurse said he called Obama's campaign earlier today about the proposal and staffers didn't immediately accept. Instead, they told Nurse that Obama's schedule was already planned, but they would get back to him. More at Bay Buzz.
As a side note, I once wrote about the keys to St. Pete, which hopefully have been improved upon since I left the City Hall beat: "Less than 2 inches long, they are actually key-shaped lapel pins bearing a dime-size city seal. They look a little like souvenir spoons sold in airport gift shops, only flimsier. They come pinned to a piece of gray foam inside the kind of plastic containers that sometimes hold Mexican jumping beans."

keys to the city dont really work. i found an old one and tried to break into a target for some much needed snack packs at 3am. nope.

PRINCETON, NJ -- The race for the presidency has moved back into a statistical tie in the latest Gallup Poll Daily tracking update of national registered voters, with Barack Obama now ahead of John McCain by just one percentage point, 45% to 44%.

Adam -- Believe the keys used are from Webb City, before it closed.

So who's elitist? Check this out from Jack Tapper and do note my favorite quote from Cindy McCain: "So I bought another one." Folks, she wasn't talking about a CD, she was talking about a house. Yes, the McCains are like us.
Tapper's riff begins here:
Which presidential candidate hosted Saturday Night Live (hint -- the musical guests were The White Stripes)?
Which one had cameos on "24" and "Wedding Crashers"?
Whose wife secretly got her pilot's license and owns a jet?
Who is pals with Warren Beatty?
Whose daughter is friends with Heidi from MTV's The Hills?
Whose wife once told Vogue, explaining the purchase of a 7th or 8th house, this one a beach house, "When I bought the first one, my husband, who is not a beach person, said, 'Oh this is such a waste of money; the kids will never go. Then it got to the point where they used it so much I couldn't get in the place. So I bought another one.”
Whose family credit cards have been known to ring up more than $500,000 in charges in one month?

442, do you have class envy? Then get your a55 up and work instead of sitting at the keyboard. If you really want to be reading something that will make your head explode, why don't you try reading Nancy Pelosi's book? Goto Amazon and read some of the reviews. It's alright for you to pick on Mrs. McCain with her $100 mil, but it's not ok to pick on Pelosi with her $55 Mil? Last I checked, $55 Mil was in public office and not $100 Mil. And let me also add that Pelosi is Socialist. Where does that leave you if Barry gets elected?

Adam,
The Obama campaign called and has worked on the mechanics of accepting the keys to the City. It was simply a matter of working out the details, not
some kind of insult.
Imagine working out the details campaign events around the country with 48 hours notice and then do another one every three hours!

Does the city allow black folk to vote..I didnt know if it was allowed..I know they jus dont countum

If the elections continue to get nastier, we could have race war & riots.
Posted by: | July 31, 2008 at 10:06 PM
Race wars and riots if he is not elected is the implicit message of the Obama campaign.
Posted by: | July 31, 2008 at 10:11 PM
What's that hissing sound I hear? The Obama campaign deflating.
Posted by: The Rock | July 31, 2008 at 10:15 PM
Yes, Jason, the city allows black people to vote and counts their votes. Even Omali Yeshitali or whatever his name is, the Afro-Marxist-Leninist with the monumental ego. People are free to vote and to post idiotic comments like yours on public blogs.

Karl, Obama doesn't need the keys to the city- he owns it already and you'll see that on November 4th. Why don't you do something useful instead of trying to suck up to the next President?
Posted by: True Blue | July 31, 2008 at 10:18 PM
Come Nov 5TH
All these pundits & liberal media is going to question how Obama lost the election.
It's written on the wall.
Obama = Dewey

Far from it there, 10:18,
The more Obama talks the more he sticks his foot in his mouth. I'd love for him to take another world tour. More Obama worship by the press and he'll be president of the world soon. It'll make it that much more enjoyable to watch him hurdle down to earth like a Wile E. Coyote anvil.
Face it, he's an empty suit, a fraud, a house of cards.
He thinks an ad depicting him as a celebrity is tough? Please. Putin (still the effective leader), Ahmadinejad, or even Jong-il will have him shaking in a corner, if he thinks that's bad.
The man behind the curtain has no clothes.
Obama on red alert. Mayday, Mayday! We're going down!
Posted by: | July 31, 2008 at 10:41 PM
laughing out loud, Obama quit whining
these new ads are nothing compared to what is coming in October.
Obama is done.

If Obama is not ahead by 5-7% in polling, he may actually be behind.
There is likely a "Bradley effect"

1. Three Generations of Bush family in Big Oil.
2. Iraq has the greatest reserves of easy oil left on the planet.
3. George W. Bush and his administration started a war in Iraq.
4. George W. Bush and his administration now control the greatest reserves of oil on the planet.
5. Big Oil is raking in record profits.
6. You are paying $4.00 per gallon for gasoline.
7. George W. Bush wants you to think the solution to the oil crisis is domestic drilling.
8. John McCain was against domestic drilling.
9. John McCain accepted the Bush Endorsement in March.
10. John McCain flip-flopped to support domestic drilling.
11. Big Oil is suddenely pouring money into McCain's campaign.
Has it ever occured to anyone that we are being manipulated by George W. Bush into voting for years of record prices for gas while being misdirected away from the real issue, which is the vast profits still to be had by Bush and Big Oil if only the GOP can stay in power? You can only blame yourself is you turn a blind eye to the obvious and continue to support the destruction of our economy by a few ultra-rich families and their corporations.

Good try there, 9:08,
You're giving Bush, in your sides' eyes, the man with the sub-par IQ, credit for manipulating middle America?
Wow, even the Godfather didn't have this much control over his men.
Try again, it's the all-time low Congress led by Pelosi and Reid that is blocking any/all measures to fix our energy crisis.
If Obama gets in, just mail your entire check to Pelosi, Reid, & Obama, Inc. each month and let's all stand in line for our gas, food, and healthcare.
Posted by: | August 01, 2008 at 09:42 AM
9:42 Sorry, it's not at all obvious that Congress is to blame for high gas prices. 9:08 is right, and that's obvious!
Posted by: | August 01, 2008 at 09:45 AM
Keep dreaming, 9:45,
Gas doubled since 2006. Pelosi promised that it would come down with her reign.
The Pelosi-Reid Congress is bad for America.
If Obama gets elected, the country will be an A-Bomination!

I have been on vacation in Indonesia for two weeks and just returned to Bombay today. Now that I’m back at work, I notice that someone has tried to assume my blogging duties on the Buzz while I was away—that’s not nice, whoever you are!
There are many questions being raised about: who is Barack Obama? I suggest you all read the new book that is out to better answer the questions you have. I have not read it, but all my friends who have read it tell me it is one of the most factual, objective and honest summaries about Barack they have seen.
The name of the book is “Obama Nation” and its author is Dr. Jerome Corsi. Dr. Corsi has done extensive research on Barack. Get the answers to your questions—read the book.

10:51 Who cares McToady? We've been conditioned by your racism and bigotry to just skip over your spew. It doesn't matter who's doing the posting; when you're just doing mindless cut and paste, it all stinks the same.

What I never understand about the Uhuru's, is that when they get angry they burn and riot their own neighborhoods?
That's about a stupid expression of anger one can do. I'm mad, so I am going to destroy my own property and make things worse for my neighbors and me.
What a bunch of ignorant fools.
Posted by: Omega83 | August 01, 2008 at 11:06 AM
Who cares about these diversionary issues? The real question is - will we be foolish enough to elect McCain and continue the failed GOP policies which have ruined our nation in so many ways over the last 8 years? What could be more obvious than that?

Barack Obama playing the race card will not work in Florida, Michigan, Ohio or Pennsylvania. It only shows desperation.
