PolitiFact on McCain drilling ad: "FALSE"
PolitiFact: "...What the ad pins on Obama — and others who are "saying no to (new offshore) drilling in America" — are the price increases the country is currently enduring. That saddles the Illinois senator with a lot more influence than he has had. If one were to line up all the leaders in Washington who share some responsibility for the offshore drilling moratorium — the first President Bush, the Republican leadership of Congress, the Democratic leadership of Congress, the Florida delegation — there would be quite a few people ahead of Obama. We find McCain's claim to be False."

Well--at least you are more fair and balanced than the NYT, even if you did ding J Mc.

nationalize the oil industry, join opec, get country off of oil, steal underwear, profit

I love it when the Old Media try to have it both ways. On the one hand, The Obamassiah is the prime mover behind all things bright and beautiful-he single-handedly pushed welfare reform through the Hallowed Halls, he has tirelessly worked to avert the mortgage meltdown (notwithstanding his pal Rezko), he is the shining star for diplomacy and he will stop glowbull worming (C) with a wave of his staff. BUT he couldn't possibly have anything to do with blocking domestic supplies of energy, OH NO!
SPT is in the tank for this clown just like the rest of the MSM.

9:35 get's it. can i get an 'amen!'.
but i'm still voting for obama
Posted by: | July 21, 2008 at 09:43 PM
Let's not forget. 2000. McCain opposed off shore drilling. McCain has always voted against ANWAR and still opposes it. In fact, McCain was opposed to off-shore drilling as late as May. McCain has been in the Senate since the 80s. How exactly are high prices not his fault?
Posted by: | July 21, 2008 at 09:48 PM
Agree that the MSM is in the tank for Obama. Not so sure about the SPT. That editorial from McCain that the NY Times refused to publish is getting better circulation and discussion now than it would have in the NYT. Liberals are soo....dumb! Rejecting his article is working for McCain and now against the NYT and its candidate Obama. Ain't life great!!! Maybe the MSM is about to shoot itself in the foot with its love affair with the Messiah. After all polling indicate that 74% of people agree the MSM is in bed with Obama.
Posted by: | July 21, 2008 at 10:15 PM
Here is the text of what the Times refused to publish. I see why they wouldn't print it and asked McCain to rewrite it. It was not positive about their beloved Messiah.

9:48, Using your logic, gas prices basically doubled since 2006 when the Democrats took over Congress. How are high gas prices not their fault?
It was Pelosi that first gave us the "visions and sugar plums dancing in our heads" (i.e. end of the war, end of the gas/oil prices...).
Obama would make the country worse with Bonnie and Clyde (Pelosi and Reid).
No thank you, NObama (aka Carter Clone)
Save the country - Now, Vote McCain '08.
Posted by: | July 21, 2008 at 10:23 PM
The Dems have been nothing but a disaster since taking control of Congress. Pelosi promised us that the energy problem would be solved in 6 months. She can't even get members of her own party to agree on a solution, let alone bargaining with the republicans. All talk and no action--the Dem motto. It is also going to be Obamas. The post above has it called: Obama another Carter--if elected a one-term DISASTER!!!!

Until coastal drilling is part of a comprehensive national plan to become energy independent, we're wasting our time. McCain's brilliant plan is to produce more oil so we can waste it for an additonal ten years only to have it run out again.
Personal transportation consumes 70% of all oil used in the U.S. How about encouraging fuel efficient vehicles? Four years ago I bought a 6,000 lb. SUV because I got a huge tax break. Why aren't we giving tax breaks for fuel efficient cars?
Why aren't we building an electric grid that can use throughout America wind power generated in the Great Plains states? (There's enough wind there to fully supply the U.S.)
It wouldn't take a genius to pull this together. Unfortunately, McCain, who graduated in the bottom 1% of his class, is about as far from a genius as we're likely to see in this election. And his drilling plan reflects his mediocre vision.
Posted by: | July 21, 2008 at 10:35 PM
10:35, I'm sure you're the one that's espoused the nonsense about McCain and where he finished in his class.
Yet, it is you who plays, "holier than thou" while you admit to buying a 6,000 lbs. vehicle and burn 2 times the gas that everyone else does and THEN you say..."they shoulda"....
What's worse? Not knowing? Or, knowing and not caring?
Posted by: | July 21, 2008 at 10:54 PM
I had no idea John McCain graduated at the bottom of his class at the Naval Academy.
Now That is disconcerting.

Yeah, 11:08,
Maybe stop using your computers since Bill Gates, Paul Allen, Larry Ellison, and Michael Dell don't have college degrees.
It'll be a win-win for everybody.
Thanks!

Obama and his Democratic supporters are trying to intimidate us to support him. Read the absurd letter they sent. It won't work! We are getting stronger every day.

This race has barely started. Obama got a nudge as it became apparent HRC was stepping down. Then, they thought he'd get a bounce when HRC appeared with him. Fake hugs and no energy resulted in no bounce.
He'll get another nudge after this trip and then will fall back. The real race starts in September.
McCain will win in November. You'll see.

10:54:
I'm talking about government tax policy, not individual car selections. I hope Americans always have the freedom to choose between a wide range of vehicles. I carry orphans in my SUV on camping trips, and I don't apologize for burning gas. But it seems stupid for the federal government --now represented for three decades by John McCain-- to promote SUV use as a matter of public policy.
Maybe we can use your mouth to add to our wind power potential.

None have a real plan. All this article does is attempt to slam a candidate the St. Pete Times does not endorse.
Neither candidate has a fully thought out solution to our energy problems but at least McCain endorses drilling, even if it is a stop gap measure.
The solution is Air powered cars (compressed air) and distributed solar power. BOTH are quite viable within 3 years and require no significant infrastructure to implement.
UNFORTUNATELY India's Tata corp has bought rights to one compressed air car design. When will US companies wise up? GM, Chrysler, or Ford REALLY need to buy rights to the other air engine design and GET MOVING!
Hybrids are WAY to detrimental to the environment with their battery requirements and high manufacturing costs. Hydrogen requires infrastructure and technology that just isn't there yet. Compressed air engines work TODAY with almost NO INFRASTRUCTURE COSTS!
Residential 5KW+ solar systems in quantity can REALLY reduce the need for base load power generation AND put it right where it is needed most, distributed on the grid. Technology is readily available and solar cell technology is improving at a rapid pace!
WAKE UP AMERICA!

Since this IS an election year, of course the pol ads running are going to take shots. That's just a no-brainer. So the ad was using Barry as a symbol for Democrats. So it's not a false premise the ad was portraying.
Secondly, Nanci Pelosi said yesterday that she will not be bringing up legislation on the offshore oil drilling ban until after Bush leaves office, so the ad is right and politifact is wrong! Go figure.
Posted by: Donald Lance | July 22, 2008 at 07:54 AM
I'd also like to add as a rebuttal to 11:53 that wind and solar power cannot be brought on-line with the grid. The grid requires energy production to be ramped up when demand increases. Wind and solar are too unpredictable and the grid is incapable of storing energy.

Last night Anderson Cooper on 360 tried to say that Obama was just getting more coverage because he was the more interesting candidate not because there was media bias in his favor and then they blocked my blog comments disagreeing with their opinion in favor of those talking about Anderson’s scuba diving lessons.
I guess they helped prove the point about bias!

High gas prices are the fault of the oil companies. Period. Punish them by flooding the marker with 1/3 of our oil reserves and they will go home with their tails betweek their legs like Newt Gingrich said recently.
...NEWT FOR VP!!

8:30, remember that it was Newt who helped get China Trade fast tracked. He opened the floodgates for Communists to dominate Capitalist nations trade with one-sided stips. I like him but I wouldn't trust him.

11:46,
Funny, I was thinking the same thing about you. Seems like you'd be perfect for wind and gas alternatives with all the nonsense you spew.
You brought up tax rebates and credits, there partner. So, you did bring up individual car selections. I don't care what you drive, just don't come here holier than thou when you're actions are part of the problem that you're preaching against.
It's hypocritical just like Al Gore.

If you don’t let us drill NOW; you want the terrorists to win in Iraq!
If you don’t let us drill NOW; you hate our troops!
If you don’t let us drill NOW, you’re not a patriot!
Attack is imminent; unless of course you let us drill NOW!
RUN AWAY; THE DARKMAN COMETH FOR THE WHITE WOMEN!

As usual Donald Lance is wrong. Perhaps this was caused by a failure to read the entire PolitiFact judgement.
When T. Boone Pickens, the oil man'd oil man, (& underwriter for the Swift liars) says we can't drill our way out, maybe McSame and Donald should pay attention.

We need more drilling and energy independence.
