Crist approval rating now 63 percent
The Florida Chamber of Commerce released a new poll today showing that 63 percent of Florida voters approve of Gov. Charlie Crist's job performance.
This comes after a Rasmussen poll last month showed Crist with 49 percent approval. The new Chamber poll shows 25 percent of Florida voters disapprove of Crist's job performance.
The statewide poll of 1,600 registered voters was conducted July 20-28 by Fabrizio McLaughlin and Associates.

Wow, better than President and Congress combined. Heck even the Rasmussen poll shows approval better than Pres and Congress combined.

Looks as if the Chamber and their Republican polling firm are cooking the #s to help charlie.
Posted by: | August 01, 2008 at 12:43 PM
I heard not only McCain is vetting for Veep but now Hollywood may consider him since his losing FL!
Posted by: | August 01, 2008 at 12:44 PM
Rumor has it that McCain's polling has charlie at about 51% fav. That is why he is not in their running for VP any more.
Posted by: | August 01, 2008 at 12:44 PM
You're kidding me??? This man has done nothing...zero, zilch, zip, nada for the taxpayers of Florida. If these numbers are accurate methinks it's time to "get out of Dodge"...
Posted by: Greg | August 01, 2008 at 12:46 PM
Ha ha ha, Cristi always finds some innovative way to keep his name in the running for VEEP. How much did Carole Rome have to give the pollster to come up with this spurious data?
Posted by: Client 9 | August 01, 2008 at 12:51 PM
Why the fascination with Crist's approval ratings? I mean who really cares? I don't remember the Times ever so concerned with past Governor ratings.

95% Still think he's Gay
Posted by: | August 01, 2008 at 12:54 PM

If you like offshore drilling and oil on the beach, go Crist. If we go drill, make sure the Oil driller pays ALL the clean up costs.

What an absolute joke!!! This man has not done anything except trick people into passing that stupid amendment that has caused a statewide budget crisis. Good job Charlie. Now we have to layoff much needed police officers and cut teacher's salaries. These numbers are a crock. Who are these pollsters asking?
Posted by: kenny | August 01, 2008 at 01:25 PM
It went up? Greer must be wrking them awful hard over at the Charlie Crist PR Agency ...er... I mean, RPOF.
Posted by: | August 01, 2008 at 01:25 PM
Fidel Castro always wins by 95%.
Posted by: | August 01, 2008 at 01:27 PM
What do you think he cares about more, Florida or getting the VP? I hope voters remember this when he is up for election.

Florida Chamber. The weakest link.

so i was looking for something other than the same old lets-beat-up obama/mccain, and saw the comments about Erin's job app. were closed.
Did it get that bad, that fast?
Posted by: | August 01, 2008 at 02:03 PM
Looks like Mark Wilson is trying real hard to suck up to Charlie Crist...
Posted by: | August 01, 2008 at 02:09 PM
He doesn't give a you-know-what about Florida. He is too busy gallavanting around Europe with his gf (on our dime) to care whether people can or cannot afford to survive. It's pathetic and no one can do a darned thing about it!!!
Posted by: Tina | August 01, 2008 at 02:16 PM
Crist is gay!! Get over it! And he's marrying thke costume queen of the Hamptons.
Go rent eyes wide shut, and learn where her family wealth comes from.
Costume shops, not what you think.

Holy heck, who did they ask?

and speaking of Carole Rome, who, by the way is travelling with Charlie and McCain today... from today's The Roslyn (NY) News. This timeline certainly does not match the timeline Charlie and Carole gave. A reporter's mistake, or a revision of history?
Florida Set For a Roslyn First Lady
By Joe Scotchie
Roslyn's leading export to the rest of America may be first ladies to various statehouses.
When Howard Dean was governor of Vermont, from 1988 to 1996, the state's first lady was Judith Steinberg Dean, a native of Roslyn.
Now, another Roslyn native is set to become the first lady of different and much larger state. Carole Rome, a 1987 graduate of Roslyn High School, is now Florida's first fiancée. According to published reports, Ms. Rome is set to marry Charlie Crist, the current governor of Florida, in the spring of 2009.
The marriage would cap off a whirlwind romance that began in September 2007, when the two met at a Republican Party fundraiser in New York City. In 2006, Ms. Rome had moved with her two children to Florida. The couple continued to date and on July 3 of this year, Gov. Crist proposed.
In Roslyn, Ms. Rome was the youngest of the five children born to Bob and Margaret Oumano. She was a cheerleader at Roslyn High School and a member of the Honor Society. After graduation, Ms. Rome matriculated at Georgetown University, where she earned a degree in business and accounting. In 1993, she married Todd Rome, president of Blue Star Jets, a private jet firm. The couple had two daughters and in time, Ms. Rome was operating her father's business, Franco American Novelty, located in Glendale, Queens. Bob Oumano died in 2000 and Carole, with renewed vigor, took over the company, focusing on costumes and leading the firm to record profits.
During this time, Ms. Rome did more than run a business and raise a family. The Romes were also heavily involved in charity causes, especially those for the Red Cross. According to published reports, she also found her way to the society pages and "hobnobbed with Tommy Hilfiger, John McEnroe, Patty Smyth, Kelly Clarkson, the Hilton family."
However, by 2006, Ms. Rome had tired of life in New York and as noted, relocated to south Florida, to a residence in exclusive Fisher Island. Her divorce from Todd Rome took place in 2006.
Now, Ms. Rome looks forward to a new chapter in her life, as the couple plans to divide their time at a condo in Crist's hometown of St. Petersburg and the governor's mansion in Tallahassee.

The 65 percent solution..
Jeb's approval rating after 8 years.

The Florida Chameber of Commerce probably polled its' own members for this poll. It would have a vested interest in seeing Charlie boy become VP.
But don't give it too much weight.
Charlie is our superstar even bigger than Hilton and Spears.
Posted by: Flant | August 01, 2008 at 04:22 PM
What a joke!! ...and he is doing what for FL??? We have a recession and lost how many jobs??? Disgusting that he hasn't even addressed it!
Posted by: Margaret | August 01, 2008 at 04:28 PM
Coincidence that NOT ONE one posting here believes this rating? NOT!!! Time for Chuckles the Clown to get out of town!
Posted by: Mary | August 01, 2008 at 04:52 PM
PS. Does anyone know Chuckles email address so I can forward these responses to him. I know he won't actually read them (he doesn't do anything, as we all here seem to agree...). Oh well, just a thought...
Posted by: Mary | August 01, 2008 at 04:54 PM
Who took the poll? Friend and relatives surely. Governor Christ is useless, he serves special interests and has forgotten the people that made florida what it is !!!!!!
Posted by: Patrick | August 01, 2008 at 04:56 PM
Just 1 last comment on this from me. Remember this latest rating came from registered voters (that's scary)- Please remember this during the next election
Posted by: Mary | August 01, 2008 at 04:59 PM
sorri chucki?
You are a flamer and that is why your out, as in out of the closet and out of the VP spotlight.
Get rid of your new "Beard" Carol, how much are you paying her to act like your fiance?

I'll believe Crist's approval rating at 63% when chickens pee.
Posted by: tom | August 01, 2008 at 05:07 PM
This is a poll of 1600 registered voters taken over a one week period by a reputable pollster. We don't have access to the methodology, the cross tab information, or the MOI, which I suspect is around 3% given the large population sample.
Given the MOI on the recent Q poll, the results here are not really that inconsistent with respect to McCain vs. Obama. But, neither poll really means much this far out from the general election.
The Crist approval rating above 60% is pretty much in line with expectations based on other recent polling of which I am aware as is the low disproval rating. So that too is pretty much a big yawn...

Yea...from his girl!

Zenator:
wasn't it the Chamber poll that had Gallagher a lot closer to Crist than he actually was?
I seem to remember the Chamber polls didn't really check out compared to the other polls (just my recollection).
Glad the cross tabs are in order!
Posted by: terminator | August 01, 2008 at 06:08 PM
1600 registered voters? Oh, well that makes the poll 100% believable. What a crock of sh!T. I bet I couldn't find 10 people out of every person I asked that would give him an even remotely positive nod. He's an incompetent and everyone knows it. Why doesn't he just resign and give us some peace?
Posted by: | August 01, 2008 at 06:27 PM
Correction: Charlie and Carole met in July 2007 not September and she did not get divorced until MAY 2008! She tired of the NY life? Yeah right - I have some oceanfront property in arizona too.
Posted by: | August 01, 2008 at 06:38 PM
With numbers like that, he ought to throw himself a giant party or travel overseas, while Floridians lose their jobs and homes at record rates. It's ok, we're just happy for him...

A Republican politician with no skills trained by Bushco since he passed the bar test on third try --- told a lie?
Heavens to Betsy, I'm so shocked I think I'll go have the vapors.

fifty percent of statistics are made up on the spot.
Posted by: bmay | August 01, 2008 at 07:26 PM
Maybe Charlie should go back to law school to learn the LATIN phrases used in law books that he claimed not to learn the first time.
Chain gang Charlie is perfect for the BUSHco league -- bad student, worse when forced to work in the real world.
Posted by: | August 01, 2008 at 07:29 PM
What??? You can't be serious! They certainly didn't poll anyone I know.
Posted by: huh? | August 01, 2008 at 07:29 PM
Termie:
It is not so much who commissioned the poll as what pollster conducted it.
And, yes. I remain fixated on cross tab information. For example, what is the break down for Crist between those who "strongly approve" his performance vs. those that merely "approve?" How does that compare to polls taken last month? I could go on, but you get my drift.
I have also been looking at some of the Obama/McCain polling information recently. I haven't reached any conclusions, but I remain surprised about Obama's inability to develop more traction at this stage of the race, especially when you compare his numbers to Kerry's in 2004.
Posted by: zenator | August 01, 2008 at 08:36 PM
Charlie is nothing but a political lip service specialist. Tell the people what they want to hear and have no idea how to accomplish the mission. I really had high hopes for him but he's failed on insurance and the Florida economy. He has not proven his ability to serve as Vice President of our nation.

The polling is very consistent with other recent polling.
Very big base too 1600 registered voters.
Probably pretty accurate.
