This is despicable.
The guy's wife is dying of cancer.
I don't think it has a damn bit to do with his ability to govern, but it speaks volumes of his character.
The most important thing a guy can do is treat his family well.

stupidstupidstupid
attorney general for a piece....

Posted by: | August 08, 2008 at 03:56 PM
This should give McCain a nice little pre Olympic bounce.
Posted by: | August 08, 2008 at 03:56 PM
Let's see. . .from those holier-than-thou-Republican Pharisees who want less government but want to tell us who we can and cannot marry comes:
Newt Gingrich
Asked his hospitalized wife for a divorce.
Larry Craig
Ewwww!
Bruce Barclay, Matthew Elliott, Vito Fossella, Robert McKee, Daniel Thompson, Derek Walker, Bob Allen, John Atchison, John Bryan, John Curtin, Joseph McDade, Patrick McGuire, David Vittner, Mark Foley, ad nauseum.
At least the Democrats aren't trying so hard to be the sanctimonius party. Get real! As if Jesus would own a gun and vote Republican!
Posted by: Jack Chapel Hill, NC | August 08, 2008 at 04:06 PM
"Edwards made a point of telling Woodruff that his wife's cancer was in remission when he began the affair with Hunter."
As if that makes cheating on your wife better?
Posted by: | August 08, 2008 at 04:06 PM
o, yeah!!!!
like the bounce McThusela was giving cindy the XXXX while still married to crippled and disfigured wife number ONE??
yeppers.....quite a bounce, id say!!
Posted by: | August 08, 2008 at 04:08 PM
Fox News: We decide. You concur.
From the holier-than-thou sanctimonius Pharisee, er, Republican party comes:
Newt Gingrich
Told his hospitalize wife he was divorcing her.
Larry Craig - EWWWWWWW!
Mark Foley
Remember this is the party that promotes family values. Yeah, as long at that family is white, straight, and evangelical.
If you REALLY want to defend the sanctity of marriage, don't just ban gay marriages. Ban divorce! Will make people think twice about getting hitched.
Posted by: Jack Chapel Hill, NC | August 08, 2008 at 04:11 PM
About that bump?
"In April 1979, McCain met and began a relationship with Cindy Lou Hensley, a teacher from Phoenix, Arizona, the only child of the founder of Hensley & Co. Also in 1979, he pushed to end his marriage with his wife Carol, who accepted his request for a divorce in February 1980; the divorce became effective in April 1980. The settlement included two houses, and financial support for her ongoing medical treatments due to the injuries resulting from the 1969 car accident; they would remain on good terms. McCain and Hensley were married in May 1980 with Republican Senator and future Secretary of Defense William Cohen serving as best man, and Democratic Senator Gary Hart as a groomsman."

How does the fact that Foley and Craig are sleazebags make Edwards any less of a liar and sleazebag? Foley has resigned, Craig hasn't but the voter will send him packing, and good riddance too to both. Edwards' chances of being VP or AG in an Obama Administration are now effectively squelched and hurrah for that too. Edwards was a vain, mush-mouthed phony from the get go and only the phonies and saps were for him as a candidate.

As you all know, I'm a staunch D.
Two (or three or four or five) wrongs don't make a right.
It's pretty shameful, his wife was all over the campaign trail while fighting cancer and Jonnie was banging some chic on the side.
Posted by: Flagophile | August 08, 2008 at 04:42 PM
ahhhhhhhhh........
friday afternoon news dumps
even the DRUNK is smart enough to know this is the best time to dump bad news
and today:

russia and georgia duking it out
whos gonna care about johnnie?
unless they want to have someone bring up mcAiNUS hosing 'cindy the xxxx', a beer heiress, not yet a pill-head, while still married to his crippled and disfigured wife!!!!
Posted by: | August 08, 2008 at 04:44 PM
Well there's one thing I'll agree with Flagophile on. If these guys disgrace themselves personally or disgrace the office they hold, the hell with 'em. That holds for Edwards or Craig or Foley or Kwame Kilpatrick or Duke Cunningham or Bill Clinton using the Oval Office as his personal massage parlor with a subordinate. Regardless of whether their poltiical affiliation is Insane Clown Posse-R or Insane Clown Posse-D, pi*ss on 'em.

I will not bash Edwards. However I would like to hear from the one who has made it his/her calling lately to blast McCain for exactly the same thing Edwards has now admitted and ask what the difference is besides political party.
Is that you 4:14?
Still looking for some consistancy on your part.
Posted by: | August 08, 2008 at 05:05 PM
Now just why and WHO made him admit to this???????
hmmmmmm, with the rebub brand ruined, they must go after the dem brand. Look what the did to Bill, a president! Now Edwards. See this for what it really is.
The sad thing is he was and still is for the people. Dems are left with DLC'rs now. Who's left for them?
Now Obama can pick a DLC'er to the right candidate cuz people can handle hearing about sex.
Again, who and why did he have to admit this? He's not running any more.
Posted by: | August 08, 2008 at 05:21 PM
yawn...
Posted by: | August 08, 2008 at 05:22 PM
idiots!! don't you see what this is about? it's all about knocking the BIG story, of WAR CRIMINAL GW BUSH!
don't be fooled,,,
Posted by: | August 08, 2008 at 05:58 PM
It'll be good when the Bollea tapes are finally released. Then we'll have some REAL news. This stuff is just supermarket tabloid filler.
Posted by: LittleBro | August 08, 2008 at 06:09 PM
Who does John Edwards think he is? Newt Gingrich?
Posted by: | August 08, 2008 at 06:27 PM
5:21 You're absolutely right. The evil Republicans forced Bill Clinton to mess around with Monica, Gennifer, Kathleen, Paula....
Posted by: | August 08, 2008 at 06:32 PM
Sex and politics. The names change, but the story remains pretty much the same. Now we can add Edwards name to an already long list.
Can't say I am surprised. Can say I could care less.
Posted by: zenator | August 08, 2008 at 07:10 PM
So, Coulter was wrong. This is almost as rich as Clinton pushing monogamy to the Africans. Bizarro world.
Posted by: yackson | August 08, 2008 at 07:21 PM
Thou shalt stop speaking "holier than thou" when seeking public office.
NO religious test for office.
Queen Victoria no longer reigns.
Posted by: | August 08, 2008 at 07:42 PM
Yet look at all the self righteous fundies who really plan to vote for McCain who never met a marriage vow he didn't break.
Oh, that's right, he disrespects and votes against ALL women. Keep em in their place, sez the drunken sailor.
Posted by: | August 08, 2008 at 07:51 PM
This story is sad for his family and sad for those of us who thought well of him and his campaign. Character matters. I think he needs to fade from public life. His wife on the other hand is a gem and she needs to kick him to the side. Elizabeth should run for office.
Posted by: george | August 08, 2008 at 08:16 PM
As a Republican, I would assume that some of us want to gloat and take advantage, not me! Our party have some major, major sexual character flaws ourselves. He who has not sinned, shall cast the first stone.
Here is why, what happened between Senator Edwards and that woman, is between two consenting adults! Not saying that it is right, but between two consenting adults. Further, the most important thing is, it is between Senator Edwards, his wife, their God and that woman.
Are we any better than he, no? Should we pass judgement, no?
I pray that this does not cause the irreversable stress on his wife as to cause her health to spiral downward! So, I, like others should pray for her and his kids!
Posted by: Gilbert | August 08, 2008 at 08:25 PM
Edwards is lying, he's just trying to gain some Dem street Cred, y'all. I'm outtie.
Posted by: Vanilla Ice | August 08, 2008 at 08:35 PM
The next big affair hits in September/October: Obama and his fling with one of his interns. It's a coming folks and the MSM won't be able to avoid it for as long as they did with Edwards!!! Then we'll see what all you Messiah lovers have to say.
Posted by: | August 08, 2008 at 08:39 PM
If the National Enquirer had a sports section, we wouldn't need to Washington Post.
Posted by: tim | August 08, 2008 at 09:04 PM
This has nothing to do with parties. This behavior is individual. It is truly sad that morals have been flushed down the tube.
Posted by: | August 08, 2008 at 09:29 PM
Hahahahahahaha.....and people say President Bush is a liar......hahahahaha
How does it feel Democraps.....knowing he lied, covered it up, then did a pay off...
And he was your choice for President? Go figure......hahahahahahaha
His wife must be soooooooo proud!
Hahahahahahahaha

Posted by: Foley Allen Kraig | August 08, 2008 at 10:07 PM
Bush IS a liar. And a fool. And such a loser his interns look the other way. Think what that makes a person who talks like him, walks like him and thinks like him. "Democraps?" Trouble with fools like Bush is you've got nothing to say so you pound your chest and say, "bring it on" in the hope someone will think you are, at least, macho.
Posted by: LittleBro | August 09, 2008 at 07:17 AM
How is this any different than the actions of the former Governor of New Jersey? Or the actions of the Mayor of Detroit who now is facing ten felony counts? and on and on the list goes. The Mayor and the entire City Council of New Orleans have been subpoenaed. A former Alderman in Chicago has pleaded guilty to taking brides from a gang leader. Our political leaders have failed.
Posted by: tacraig | August 09, 2008 at 07:20 AM
Edwards betrayal of his dying wife and family is what I expect of a 'rat.
For the 'rats have been preaching for years that if it feels good, do it.
As that great racist preacher, Nobama's spiritual mentor, and best friend one said: "the chickens are coming home,
to roost."
Posted by: democrats are rats | August 09, 2008 at 07:29 AM
Now who else does this describe? "I started to believe that I was special and became increasingly egocentric and narcissistic." You are right if you guessed Barack Obama. The National Enquirer broke this story because the left wing media refused to out a Democrat. Now the New York Times and thier biased ikl have little choice but to go with the Obama sex scandals that they have been sitting on. Obama also made his campaign a family thing.
Posted by: | August 09, 2008 at 07:48 AM
Does this mean the moonbats will finally remove those Kerry / Edwards bumper stickers from their cars?
Posted by: | August 09, 2008 at 08:10 AM
I did not have sex with that woman!!!
Come to think of it, would you have sex with someone that slept with John Edwards? I mean he's about as masculine as Hillary, I mean, he's not very masculine. Actually Elizabeth Edwards is more manly than John.
I guess old Lizard face is right, Obama's search for a vp just took at least two baby steps backwards
Posted by: Bill Clinton | August 09, 2008 at 08:17 AM
If he is shown to be a blatant liar about the affair - then why should the public and his wife believe him when he says he isn't the father of the child? Did he do due diligence and get a DNA test done?
"Enquirering" minds would enjoy knowing..
Posted by: | August 09, 2008 at 08:18 AM
i could care less if he had 20 affairs,it's what he has done while in office as a senator . look at clinton they say he was one of the greatest presidents in history after what he did they wanted to inpeach him and he still was great. it never fails that the media gets dirt on some one they keep harping on it for the next week or so never let it die focus on the good that he did. i guess bad news gets good reviews it never fails there private life is there private life nobody business but there's
Posted by: jim | August 09, 2008 at 10:11 AM
It ain't the affair, it's the fact that this potential VP or US Attorney General continues to lie to the American public about it. He says it ended in '07 yet they caught him with her two weeks ago. He says he knows nothing about the woman's pay-off money yet she reportedly stays in a $3 million home. There's lots here concerning tax evasion and illegal use of election funds - if only the media thought these issues were important.
Posted by: tim | August 09, 2008 at 10:12 AM
Obama is still considering letting him speak at the Democratic Nation Convention - just waiting to see if he can get a baby sitter for the night.
Posted by: Ed | August 09, 2008 at 10:15 AM
HE is no different than 50% of men in america or women in the usa. look at some of the famous presidents what they did while in office.J F K WAS A WOMEN CHASER WHILE IN OFFICE. never said any thing about him untill he passed a way. the same with every other president or senator. give me a break any thing to make news rateings for the week focus on the good or bad they did while in office not there private lives.
Posted by: jim | August 09, 2008 at 10:19 AM
John Edwards told ABC Nightline that he had told his wife about the affair back in 2006, and yet Elizabeth stood by this man during his campaigning for the Presidency in 2007 and 2008?
People will sell their priciples and principals for power.
Posted by: | August 09, 2008 at 10:27 AM
I guess John was right. There are two Americas. One for those with mistresses and those that are loyal to their spouses.
Posted by: | August 09, 2008 at 10:31 AM
As someone who has been involved in Florida politics for many years, I have found that reporters are just as promiscuous as the bureaucrats and legislators they write about. Sex and politics and power are inseparable. Reporters (and their editors) get the same feeling of believing that they are special and become increasingly egocentric and narcissistic. Barbara Walters brags about bedding a married man - and I was bedded a couple of times myself for a good story. One Tampa Bay reporter was a likely nympho and bedded everyone from her editor to lower level workers for a story. One sexually active reporter is still reporting for a major newspaper in Florida. One former Florida bureau New York Times reporter was infamous for his blatant and overt womanizing. And everybody knew who he was. As far as governors - one former married Governor (now deceased) was servicing numerous Florida ladies. He didn't show at the funeral of one of them and upset the Lakeland community with his absence. His visits to the islands for raucous womanizing are legend. Some highly regarded legislators forget their wedding vows when they are in Tallahassee. Everybody knows it and most everybody is doing it. John Edwards got caught. Now is the time for an equal standard to be imposed.
