McCain VP pick bullish on offshore drilling
No flip-flops here: Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, Republican presidential candidate John McCain's pick for vice president, has always been bullish on offshore drilling.
"I think those politicians who don’t understand that we need more domestic supply of energy flowing into our hungry markets, you know, they’re living in La-La Land. And we’re in a world of hurt if their agenda continues to be to lock up these safe, secure domestic supplies of energy," she said on the CNBC program Kudlow & Company in June.
She wants to open up the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge to drilling, too.
--Craig Pittman

Just a typical answer. Her constituents need the drilling for jobs and economy. She has to be for drilling.

Exactly as I said. Big Oil bailed out the McSame campaign and this is their payback. Gambling that if Johnny kicks the bucket in office, the new prez will be bought and paid for.

GOP reiterates their commitment to destroying the environment for Big Oil profits.

Shaneful:
You are an idiot. Read Palin's resume, big oil detests her!!!

Crap.
McCain/Palin = McBush/McCheney.
All our country needs is another VP who is a lapdog for the Energy concerns.

Wouldn't that be "cow"ish? ;-)

Well that was a truly forgettable speech. We learned that McCain is still aiming to recast himself as the real agent of change, somehow. But there was little in the speech to explain why a Washington insider who's tied himself as closely as anyone to a deeply unpopular president should be considered an agent of change. I'm reminded of a comment my father made in passing back in the 1970s about the philosophy of Republicans:
"Republicans are always in favor of change, just not now."
The other thing we learned is that McCain still believes he can capture some of Hillary Clinton's voters. But Sarah Palin offered nothing in her banal speech that would be attractive to those voters aside from her own gender.
It was a 4th or 5th drawer speech that would have been more appropriate for the state-level chicken-dinner circuit than for the national stage. No wonder John McCain looked so nervous you thought he might have a seizure right on stage.
What didn't we learn? Why Sarah Palin should be considered ready to take over the presidency. We heard nothing about her foreign policy views - if she has any. We learned practically nothing about domestic issues. She said nothing that spoke directly to the interests of voters of Ohio specifically. It was as if she didn't know how to reach out to people outside her own state.
Heck, we didn't even learn how large the crowd was in Dayton. I wonder if the McCain campaign wanted to keep it that way.

Reality points to consider:
Obama recognizes his weak side and uses good judgment to pick someone to balance.
McCain refuse to even acknowledge his weak side and uses poor judgment to pick someone with hopes of stealing some Hillary votes.
Obama uses good judgment to pick someone qualified to assume the role of POTUS.
McCain uses poor judgment and picks someone qualified to refill the Gatorade jug at the kids’ hockey practice on Saturdays.
Conclusion: It is not Obama who is willing to lose a war in order to win an election… it is John McCain who is not only willing to lose a war, but a Nation as well, in order to win an election.
Congratulations President Obama!

Another GOP pig, with lipstick.
Posted by: | August 29, 2008 at 01:28 PM
Obama has had MAJOR donations from oil people.
George Soros, one of his biggest supporters, bought almost a BILLION DOLLARS of Petro Bras stock within the last couple of months - Petro Bras is a GREAT energy companies that will be drilling for over 50 BILLION barrels of oil off various coasts around the world
Offshore Continental shelf drilling is safer than bringing it in from foreign countries in barges and tanks.
McCain/Palin = GREAT for our nation.
Obama = Carter on steroids and Biden is a beltway bully of hot air.

What an amazing pick by John McCain. You cant get more outsider than someone from Alaska who kicked Murkowski's butt for Governor.
I'm sure the Obama bloggers are going to start making fun of her kid with Downs Syndrome soon.

Lord, how can the GOP recover from this awful choice??? The more I learn, the more I am aghast! Was Karl Rove on vacation? Did McCain have a "senior moment"? This is disaster for his campaign. Probably the greatest gift a former patriot could unintentionally give to our country.

anyone know the story about that she tried to get her ex bro in law a trooper fired
Posted by: surfdog | August 29, 2008 at 01:33 PM
THIS BROAD is an INSULT, not only to american VOTERS and american VALUES but also to WORLD LEADERS!
can you imagine the same twit we just watched on tv facing off, eyeball-to-eyeball with world LEADERS, without them and theri staffs silently laughng at her?
HONESTLY, a G*ddamned INSULT to all of us, regardless of party affiliation or political leaning!!
Posted by: | August 29, 2008 at 01:34 PM
1:32 Well McToady, I guess it's all up to you now. You've got your work cut out for you, trying to spin this one into a good move. I never underestimate the power of your boss Karl Rove to do evil, but selling this one to the American people may be beyond him.
Posted by: | August 29, 2008 at 01:36 PM
"Was Karl Rove on vacation?"
i think it was karli-girl's withchy side acting out...setting up a woman for a fall...just like the "real man" he is..............NOT!!
Posted by: | August 29, 2008 at 01:38 PM
Wow, this vitriol only shows she's a GREAT pick.
Tough, Executive Experience, and Understands that we need a comprehensive energy policy for economic and security reasons.
Palin understands BOTH sides of the balance sheet.
Obama wants to redistribute wealth for his socialist programs.
Obama's not ready.

1:16 actially, Governor Palin stood up to the powerful oil industry, and with bipartisan support in the statehouse she won a tax increase on oil companies' profits.
She asked Alaska's congressional delegation to be more selective in seeking earmarks after Alaska's "Bridge to Nowhere" became a national symbol of piggish pork-barrel spending.
Read about it at:

She took on big oil in Alaska for goodness sakes. Made them clean up their act.
Pro life, pro family...great pick. I'm frankly shocked. I thought it would be a boring pick.
Oh, and that sorry clown she tried to get fired was beating his wife. Lets see how you react when someone you love gets the crap beat out of them by a man.
Posted by: | August 29, 2008 at 01:39 PM
Surfdog-
because he's a wife-beater. Now, we know you Democrats like wife-beaters (like Bill Clinton), but we conservatives protect our women.

Clearly the paid Obama bloggers are smarting over the fact that people have already forgotten about his celebrity speech last night.

"can you imagine the same twit we just watched on tv facing off, eyeball-to-eyeball with world LEADERS"
No i cannot imagine Obama doing that...they will laugh at him.

palin's husband - an UNION worker - is employed in oil industry
can you hear the union votes being peeled away from obama now too?
Posted by: | August 29, 2008 at 01:44 PM
1:34. Sarah Palin is a sitting Governor with an 80% favorable rating. And she is running at the bottom of the ticket. As such, she will not be representing the United States at as President. That's John McCain. Who IS EXPEREINCED. He is at the top of the R ticket.
An insult to the voters and indeed world leaders would be having the United States represented by an opportunistic, American-hating neophyte who has never finiched even a single job like Barack HUSSEIN Obama. He is at the top of the D ticket.
Let's compara apples to apples.
Posted by: | August 29, 2008 at 01:44 PM
Not as big of an insult as Mr. Ears! Hussein Obama will make Neville Chamberlain look like a hawk when he is done "negotiating" with the likes of Putin and other world leaders.

It's the oil, stupid.

Was there a speechlast night? We saw "Sordid Lives"...
Posted by: | August 29, 2008 at 01:45 PM
1:45 - yes there was an obama speech - after we watched a bio video that fast forwarded over 20 years of his life
"one day he was a great kid in high school...then a few years later why he was elected to US Senate" what a joke
Posted by: | August 29, 2008 at 01:47 PM
Ladies, come on over!! There's plenty of room for you at the GOP. Sometimes our men act like male chauvinist pigs. But so are the D's men. Difference: ours are up-front about it. The Ds just pay a lot of lip service. But when the pedal hits the metal, they diss a woman and go for the guy.
Posted by: | August 29, 2008 at 01:47 PM
1:47 maybe it wasn't fast-forwarded. Just not much to put in there to start with. Especially leaving out the Rev. Wright, William Ayers, Tony Rezko...
Posted by: | August 29, 2008 at 01:48 PM
Try harder McToady, you're going to have to do better than that. This is worse than when you reposted all the old racist Rove Memos right after McCain forgot how many McMansions Cindy owned. Think! What could possibly make the undecided enthused about this choice? Remember, they don't drink the Kool-Aid like your base.

It's Their Economy, Stupid
Posted by: Obama Wins | August 29, 2008 at 01:49 PM
Anyone with any common sense is for drilling. Is it a quick fox? Not really. It will take years to get that oil oit.
But meantime, the threat of us getting it out, combined with the exploration of alternative sources of energy is enough to make the oil producers lower the price. And that IS a quick fix.

1:40 -- "but we conservatives protect our women."
there are stupid everywhere in this world; why did Florida get so many of them???

Now dat Hillary was snubbed in favor of a "commoner" (LOL) from Delaware, the democratic talibans r circling the wagons & will wait 4 the Clintonista cavalry to save them in da battle ahead. Sadly, it ain't gonna happen. Now that the GOP has produced what the Dems couldn't do, keep circling da wagons and keep da powder dry cause all of a sudden, holy moly, the ol man has got a real chance..plus she's prettier than all of em put together and, holy batman, whom wouldve thought? She can handle a .308! Something than our 'hood activist or our "commoner" from DC probably don't know what it means...you go girl!
Posted by: tungstencarbide | August 29, 2008 at 01:51 PM
so this....
The family had alleged the threat in 2005, before Palin became governor. They said Wooten had told Palin's sister he would shoot their father if he got the sister a lawyer.
Wooten denied saying anything like that. But a trooper investigation concluded he did, although it wasn't a crime because he didn't threaten the father directly. Wooten's actions did violate trooper policy, the investigator found.
becomes "wife beating"

we can mention wright, rezko, ayers, davis (that's obama's communist mentor for those of you obots who glossed over his bio), et al
so really, just give it a rest and begin to get past denial and just accept the election is over and that mccain/palin will be sworn in

I think McCain should have picked Patti LuPone. At least when she played the mother of a downs syndrome kid on TV, she cared enough about him to stay at home and care for him, not go galavanting all over the country chasing windmills with Johnny McSame!!
Posted by: | August 29, 2008 at 02:01 PM
let's send obama down to new orleans - maybe he can stop the oceans from rising as gustav approaches
Posted by: | August 29, 2008 at 02:02 PM
Dear surfdog: Gov. Palin, by deciding to give birth to a child with Down Syndrome, has more guts, character, integrity and willingness to sacrifice than McCain, Obama, or Biden will ever have. Dat, my little grasshopper, is enough in my book.
Posted by: tungstencarbide | August 29, 2008 at 02:11 PM
As much as I loathe Obama-Biden, I can't in good conscience vote for a McCain-Palin ticket. Palin has absolutely no experience in foreign affairs. Considering both McCain's advanced age and the state of the world today, it is essential that the veep be exceedingly qualified to assume the office of president.
I simply don't have any confidence in Palin's ability to deal effectively with Iran, Russia, China, etc. I certainly will not cast a vote for Obama-Biden, but nor will I vote for McCain-Palin. Looks like I'll either sit this one out or vote for Bob Barr. Why, o, why, didn't McCain listen to Rove and just pick Romney?

God: Jack Nicholson will finally get his wish. He can stop taking cold showers and have someone to salute in the morning.
Posted by: | August 29, 2008 at 02:16 PM
surfdog: Next read the whole article before you use it to make a point. It also states:
"Extreme verbal abuse & violent threats & physical intimidation," McCann wrote in her April 11, 2005, petition to the court. He had driven drunk multiple times, threatened her father, told her to "put a leash on your sister and family or I'm going to bring them down," her petition says. A judge issued a 20-day protective order to keep Wooten away.

Now go out. It's time for your walk.

Palin is younger and less experienced than the first-term Illinois senator, and brings an ethical shadow to the ticket.
Just 20 months ago, she was mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, a town of 6,500 where the biggest issue is controlling growth and the biggest annual worry is whether there will be enough snow for the Iditarod dog-mushing race.
