New Florida poll: McCain 45, Obama 40
In a new poll released by the Florida Chamber of Commerce, 45 percent of Florida voters said they would vote for Sen. John McCain if the presidential election were held today. Forty percent said they would vote for Sen. Barack Obama. Fifteen percent were undecided.
This is the same poll that shows Gov. Charlie Crist's approval rating at 63 percent. The statewide poll of 1,600 registered voters was conducted July 20-28 by Fabrizio McLaughlin and Associates.

Chamber of Commerce...he he he...Lapdogs for Business...yeah we trust them not to cheat or distort. But they don't seem to agree with every other poll I've seen which has it much closer. Just the margin of error, I'm sure.

Isn't it hilarious? The Chosen One's standings in the polls have been falling since his worldwide coronation tour. I guess Americans actually want to vote for a President of America, not President of the European Union.

At the end of the day, most of those undecideds will decide to vote for the guy with experience over the guy with no experience.

As anyone who reads this blog regularly knows, I am a big Obama supporter.
However, the last week has been disastrous for Obama.
Once again, we see that Republicans are much shrewder politicians than Democrats. After reportedly deciding to go negative on Sunday, McCain unleashed a series of disgusting, low, insulting and intellectually dishonest ads.
More disturbing than McCain's despicable ads is the fact that Americans are so dumb as to fall for them.
As the past week shows, Americans don't respond and the numbers don't move without these titilating attacks.
Obama better take note. Republicans are terrible at policy but great at politics.

Flag,
Obama just cranked out his economic stimulus piece calling for windfall profits tax on oil companies.
If you thought the week was bad, get ready for the Marxist Leninist labels to come flying.
I tended to think all of that was rhetoric - then I read his plan. He's going to get hammered.

51,000 FEWER JOBS....
5.7% UNEMPLOYMENT....
from AMERICAbolg.com:
"Again, the US needs to add roughly 150,000 jobs per month to break even and we've been bleeding jobs for seven straight months. Besides the 51,000 fewer jobs last month, unemployment jumped to 5.7%. Keep in mind that we are perhaps halfway through the credit crunch, so the next few months are likely to remain bumpy. The only bright spot with the report is that analysts were expecting 70,000 fewer jobs and we "only" lost 51,000."
someone wake up Uncle Grumpy before he pees his'f ag'in and ask him what his plans are about this?

And yet, 5.7% unemployment during the Clinton years was terrific!

Why stop at oil companies, I think BHO should take all profits from the porn industry. Afterall, they are not really working, are they?
Also, we should take over all Hollywierd Studios. And while we are at it, Microsoft makes too much money (on the backs of the poor that is). And what about those iPods? Come on, lets take over Apple too!
The Pols know what is best for us, just put your blind faith in them (and bend over fool)
BHO will fall like a rock and the liberals will be crying in their beer for another 8 years.
Have a good weekend!

When Clinton took office, unemployment was at 7.3% but declining - it did not reach 5.7% until Nov, 1994, and hovered there until May, 1996. It reached its lowest point in April, 2000 at 3.8%
During the Bush Administration, highest unemployment was 6.3% in June, 2003. Lowest 4.2% February, 2001

Bush didn't privatize TSA. They remain a federal agency under the Dept of Homeland Security.
That was idiot Tom Daschle's infamous "You don't professionalize unless you federalize" speech.
TSA would have fewer idiots and criminals working for them if they did privatize it.

3:42,
You support McCain. I am certain that you are not paying attention.
3:43,
They are solely my thoughts and most liberals would probably disagree.
Americans are dumb because they are moved by McCain's ads featuring Spears and Hilton but disregard McCain's disastrous policies on the economy.
Anyways, the last time you pick-up truck, Pabst drinking, gun-toting imbeciles got your way, Bush won a second term.
Look how well it's turned out.
Posted by: Flagophile | August 01, 2008 at 04:09 PM
Why shouldn't Oil Companies pay? We spent what - 4000+ lives and at least a trillion dollars just so they could rack up record profits. I'd like to see them privatized myself and then Bush and Cheney tried for war crimes. Hell, the American people hate Congress right now because they haven't led the way.
This should be a big winner for Obama!

because taxing the oil companies means raising gas prices, which totally defeats Obama's idea for Stimulus II
Posted by: | August 01, 2008 at 04:13 PM
"Why shouldn't Oil Companies pay?"
Because any taxes that the oil companies pay get passed straight down to the consumer in the form of higher prices.
Corporations don't pay taxes...individuals pay taxes.
Posted by: | August 01, 2008 at 04:15 PM
Corporations collect taxes from individuals and pass them along to the government.

Republicans can thank Shadegg for turning on the microphones the first time. Apparently, the fiesty Arizona conservative started typing random codes into the chamber's public address system and accidentally typed the correct code, allowing Republicans brief access to the microphone before it was turned off again.
Posted by: | August 01, 2008 at 04:26 PM
4:13 Yeah, I meant nationalize them. I suppose I'm just being vindictive, but I don't think economic stimulus should include Big Oil. I believe Bush has conspired with Big Oil to create these artificially high prices.
What if we extract the oil in Iraq, sell it to Americans for 3/4 the going rate and put the money in a trust fund for the Iraqis? This would stop our enemies (Chinese) from accessing it, break OPEC, and encourage Iraq to get back on their feet. Meanwhile, we make absolutely sure that we are cutting consumption and investing only in economic subsidies for clean energy.
Posted by: | August 01, 2008 at 04:28 PM
Taxing "windfall" profits will not result in higher gas prices.
That is the point!
WINDFALL!
They are taxes on funds that oil companies received from artificially high gas prices!
Profits that they received without any additional expenditure on research and development or any increased costs.

As someone recently stated on MSNBC’s website: “McCain smirks his way through one sarcastic comment after another, his face twisted in hatred and disbelief.” This pretty much sums up what McCain has become. A grouchy old man.
Bush and his policies have destroyed our economy. It will take someone like Obama to fix it. John McCain won't be able to get his neck around these huge problems.
Posted by: Flant | August 01, 2008 at 04:30 PM
Flagophile - technically true, but under Bush, if I so much as step on a crack in the sidewalk, oil companies can use that as an excuse to raise prices.
Posted by: | August 01, 2008 at 04:35 PM
Flag-
Do you know that corporations do not pay taxes? They collect taxes from the consumer and pass them off to the federal government.
What should their profit be? Who should decide?
Do you know what their profit margin is?
Do you know what a profit margin is?
Posted by: | August 01, 2008 at 04:36 PM
Flagophile,
You have now convinced me 100 percent not to vote for Barack Hussein Obama.
The reason you are a flaming idiot.
#1 The reason Obama has dropped in the polls is because he is on his rock star tour of the world acting like he already is the president. Sorry, but you libs and CNN don't elect the president..
#2 You are so gullible, if you tax any corporations, THEY WILL JUST RAISE THEIR PRICES or cut jobs. THe bottom line is the reason they open stores.
Posted by: Barack "people like flogophile lose me votes" HUSSEIN Obama | August 01, 2008 at 04:42 PM
Flag,
How do determine that the prices were "artificially" high?
Prices will go as high as the market will bear. So long as people are willing to pay $4/gallon, there's nothing artificially high about them.
Who is the government to say that they HAVE to spend profits on R&D?! They can give them incentives to do it, but no requirement.
No increased costs?! How do you think gasoline gets to market?
Did you ever take econ? This is beginner stuff.
Posted by: Omega83 | August 01, 2008 at 04:48 PM
4:42,
You are right. Republicans labeled Obama's trip a "rock star tour." He did the same things that McCain did; he was just received better. If you expect me to believe that McCain would not have addressed a crowd of 200k, you are crazy.
Second, you have no idea what you are talking about with respect to taxes. Just to be clear, if you are right then prices should have been higher and job growth slower during the Clinton years when we had higher taxes. Neither is true.
Please learn some economics and stop repeating jokes you hear on comedian Limbaugh's show.
Posted by: Flagophile | August 01, 2008 at 04:51 PM
Flag the ignorant,
How will the economy be fixed with ComObama?
Will the taxing of corporations keep them from relocating?
Will the taxing of rich people make them want to open more stores??
Will gas be free in this utopian society you believe in?
YOU ARE A FOOL
Posted by: Barack "I am a dog tird" HUSSEIN OBAMA | August 01, 2008 at 04:52 PM
4:51,
I have degrees in economics, finance and law.
For starters, real "price" is determined where supply meets demand.
Prices are "artificial," so-to-speak when they are not based on supply and demand but rather on other factors such as speculation.
This is especially true with respect to oil because of its inelasticity. The fact that people will pay $4.00 doesn't mean that it's worth $4.00 because realistic substitutes/alternatives are not readily available.
That's beginner stuff.
Posted by: Flagophile | August 01, 2008 at 04:55 PM
Hollywood will do anything for votes, now he's CHANGED his mind on off-shore drilling.
Posted by: | August 01, 2008 at 04:55 PM
Phil Gramm, McCain’s trusty economics advisor said we the American people were a nation of whiners. After these last two weeks it would seem McCain is missing his old pal as all McCain has done is whine.
Whine that he isn't getting the same media attention as Obama. Whine that Obama is a superstar and draws huge crowds wherever he goes. Whine that he doesn’t have the charisma Obama has. Whine that the Iraqi government agrees with Obama’s timetable and not with his. Whine that he can’t out-fundraise Obama. Whine that Obama is not cranky like him.
McCain is a whiner.
McCain = Mr. Nasty
Posted by: Flant | August 01, 2008 at 04:56 PM
Wow, your pretty smart for being so stupid. How can you consider voting for Bumblib-Obama, if you know economics so well? Do you think communism is a good economy?
Or do you know that oil is free after we all become muslim and ally with Iran and destroy Israel?
You are a dog tird like Obama Flogpoop
Posted by: | August 01, 2008 at 04:58 PM
4:52,
Here's an idea.
How about giving companies tax breaks for creating jobs here instead of giving them to companies who ship jobs overseas?
How about giving tax breaks to people who buy gas-efficient cars instead of to those who buy Hummers.
By the way, I'm impressed by your ability to name-call in all caps. It almost compensates for your inability to get your point across with logic and critical thinking.

Is it communism when they take my tax dollars to bail out Bear Stearns?
Every time we get down to the nitty-gritty, you all can't hang.

then Flag, if you are economically wise as you suggest you realize the role of speculative trading in an open market - it's really a step up from Las Vegas gambling, though whether or not government interfering in the practice is matter for another discussion.
I would argue that in relation to oil prices, supply/demand remains the primary driver. One need only look at the spending by major powers on the global market, and how that spending drives petroleum consumption.
The in elasticity of oil prices due to the availability of alternatives varies depending on where you are.
In places like Florida where transit is a limited option, you're right People must pay the $4/gal to participate in the economy efficiently. However, in Maryland where I am we have the option of transit, so our individual gas consumption has dropped significantly. The US market is a sum of Florida + Maryland + 48 other states... so if consumption remained constant in Florida but dropped in Maryland, overall consumption dropped (again supply/demand)...that's only on the transit example. There are myriads of others we could discuss.
If consumption increased, it would undermine your claim to "artificially" high pricing.
Wow...it's 5:05 on a Friday and I put myself to sleep on that one. You should head out too my friend. Have a good weekend.
