Boulware took 'Nole pride too far, FSU says
Republican Peter Boulware, the former Florida State football star seeking a House seat in Tallahassee, has campaign signs and literature that would make any FSU Seminole proud. Since he's running in a district full of FSU alumni, the strategy makes obvious sense. On Boulware's campaign leaflets and signs, his last name is underlined by the familiar garnet and gold spear. Make that was.
For all of his exploits on the gridiron at Doak Campbell Stadium, Boulware got a cease-and-desist letter from FSU's trademark licensing director, ordering him to "delete any and all use of registered trademarks of the university from your campaign materials and your website." The letter, from FSU's Sherri Dye, did not mince words: "Please take the necessary steps to retrieve any signs bearing our marks from circulation, and proceed as quickly as possible to delete our marks from your website and any other campaign materials."
Boulware quickly complied, even painting over the spear head on his signs and other materials. Read Boulware's respectful response here.

Well at least he didn't wrap himself in the American Flag like most Republicans.
Democrats, however, are the true patriots. Tell me how Republicans that drive Hummers and Expeditions are patriots when those burn the most gas making us more indebted to Saudi Arabia and costing more troops lives just so they can drive around in 10mpg vehicles.

Get serious!! Have you seen Gore's home?? He is one of many Dem frauds on energy. The whole west coast elite of actors/actresses are also a bunch of hypocrites. Be careful before throwing stones at Republicans. Palin is the only one who really believes in conservation. Sold the state jet. Check out how many Dem governors have done that!!!

Plus I am an alumn of FSU and I have a spear in the matting of my diploma... are you going to come after me?
Posted by: | September 05, 2008 at 09:28 PM
I am embarassed to be an alum of FSU. I can't believe they would attack someone who brought nothing but good things to FSU. He was an academic all-american and regular all-american. Sherri Dye is a disgrace to all Seminoles. For Peter's part he handled the matter in a humble way.
Posted by: | September 05, 2008 at 09:30 PM
Who wants to bet this was initiated by that hag Michelle Rewinkle Vasilinda. She and her troll husband are an embarassment. Vasilinda sued to knock here primary opponent off the ballot. She is a coward.
Posted by: | September 05, 2008 at 09:32 PM
Peter is a class act. His handling od this is just another example of his class. He will make a great legislator.
Posted by: | September 05, 2008 at 09:35 PM
Vaslinda probably whined to TK. What's next? She going to take him to court to get him kicked of the ballot? Even the DEM's know this race is over. Better hope for a better candidate in 2010
Posted by: | September 05, 2008 at 09:36 PM
Varn would have wiped up the floor with Vasilinda.
Posted by: | September 05, 2008 at 09:48 PM
As a Booster, I'm disgusted that FSU would waste school resources on something like this. I agree, the Wicked Witch of the Northeast is probably behind this, but it also shows a surprising spinelessness by school administration. Simply pathetic.
Posted by: | September 05, 2008 at 10:27 PM
Commercial enterprises all over Tallahassee use these trademarks and colors in some form or another. Wonder if someone filed a complaint in this instance. Someone like his Democratic opponent that will exploit any loophole she can to gain an advantage.
Posted by: | September 05, 2008 at 10:50 PM
Boulware handled this situation with class.
Posted by: | September 05, 2008 at 11:59 PM
love it
Posted by: | September 06, 2008 at 12:05 AM
With or without the spear, Peter Boulware is going to win this race with ease. You heard it here first.

show me something PB stands for other than being a Black Republican and a FSU Alumni?
Posted by: | September 06, 2008 at 12:22 AM
That was very classy. Good luck to you young man.
Posted by: Gator Alum | September 06, 2008 at 12:42 AM
Steve Bousquet - Please take this to the next level and request a public records request of FSU regardin any an all correspondence and notes related to the "spear" and Bouleware. If you won't maybe the RPOF can...
Posted by: | September 06, 2008 at 05:24 AM
To answer someone's question, PB is an educated man (degree in management information systems), small businessman who is the co-owner of a Toyota dealership (for the car enthusiast above, please note PB does NOT drive a pimped out ride), active member of his church, mentor to numerous students, giver of his time to many youth organizations in the community, and probably the most hard-working family guy I have come across (father of three, soon to be four).

For all of you idiots on the page that don't realize that by using the FSU logo it is implying that the University has endorsed him… which they have not nor could they if they wanted. There is actually a policy that forbids the endorsing of any candidate or party in any local, state, or Federal elections. FSU is covering their butt, as they should be.
Posted by: Tallytowngal | September 06, 2008 at 08:58 AM
All the little RPOF weenie-dorks have their panties in a wad because TK gave them the smack-down.
Posted by: | September 06, 2008 at 09:05 AM
FSU could lose their Tax Exempt Status if they are charged with supporting any candidate or party!
Posted by: | September 06, 2008 at 09:11 AM
maybe TK and the FSU administration are jealous because when Boulware played we were awesome and now we kind of suck!
Peter may want to rethink that whole FSU endorsement thing. How about a Gator instead? That will probably get you a lot more votes.
Posted by: terminator | September 06, 2008 at 09:51 AM
Boulware should have responded that he would comply with their request in less than 60 days.
Posted by: | September 06, 2008 at 10:21 AM
Hadn't realized it was the specific spear..why can't he use a spear that somewhat resembles? kind of like the ones the Washington Deadskins sometimes use?
Posted by: Omega83 | September 06, 2008 at 10:49 AM
His understanding of campaign laws reminds one of how much an athlete has to actual learn to graduate FSU.
Posted by: Gator Riggins | September 06, 2008 at 11:18 AM
11:18 is an idiot
Posted by: | September 06, 2008 at 11:44 AM
I wish his letter would have been forth right about representing the folks of his district rather than stating several times about serving FSU.

I'm sure PB is a good citizen. However, regardless of collegial or party affiliations, people seeking leadership positions must not compromise their ethical behaviors.

I like the guy but he'll lose so FSU took him to task. Had it been a Democrat like TK, it wouldn't have happened. Obviously that power hungry loser approved this.
Posted by: | September 06, 2008 at 04:11 PM
TK a democrat? Not any more....At best, he's a DINO because he's done a great job of sucking up to all of the R's who've walked the halls of power the past decade (Jim Smith, John Thrasher, et. al.)
Besides, we're about to find out if 62% of the people in HD 9 are democrats or seminioles....
If Peter's got a Bowden commercial in the can, Vasilinda is toast...

Go Noles and go Michelle Rehwinkel Vasilinda! Love in sports doesn't mean a love in politics.
Posted by: Proud NOLE and DEMOCRAT | September 07, 2008 at 01:24 PM
Vasilinda is a horrible person. she sued to get Fred Varn kicked off the ballot because she knew there was no way she or her hack of husband could beat him. Michelle Vasilinda is undemocratic.

Republican Peter Boulware:
A former Florida State football star,
and having played in the NFL,
thus he already knew very well about the copyright/trademark issues.
The issue certainly has not been a secret in Tallahassee as the issue has been much discussed and litigated, along with others arrested for selling such illegal merchandise.
And the issue has been much discussed in any football town - university and professional levels.
This knowing misbehavior shows that Mr. Boulware is not qualified to become a member of the Florida House of Representatives.

First of all, stop bashing Peter around. His signs and literature are red, white, and blue - not garnet and gold - so it really is circumspect that FSU (my alma mater) is accusing him of copyright infringement. If he were using school colors, Chief Osceola, etc, that would be one thing. Secondly, candidates don't do all of the design/print work themselves, though we approve them, so it is possible that this was created by someone the campaign contracted for work. And if FSU is going to go after Peter, they darn well be going after every business, candidate, etc (all over the US) for the same thing.
Sorry, folks, like it or not, this smacks of Vasilinda's typical MO. I haven't lived in Tally for 20 years and I still know about her & Mike's shenanigans. Some things nover change.
Go Peter - God bless - I hope you mop the floor with her!

Speaking of Vasilinda - Where is his son? Did he ever get out of jail for selling drugs?? Or is he still hiding in Tallahassee or down south?

Who owns Bowden carpet cleaning? Just wondering...
Posted by: | September 08, 2008 at 04:58 PM
Oh true, that Bowden Carpet Cleaning company uses all sorts of Seminole symbols and colors and they seem to get away with it. There are also a bunch of businesses along Gaines street (mechanics, etc.) that do the same.
Seems like FSU plays selective enforcement.
