Bronson: 'Blogs' triggered panic at the pump

As state officials try to find out whether gas wholesalers and/or retailers jacked up their prices and gouged consumers, a second question persists: What triggered the public panic at the pump late last week in Gainesville and Tallahassee that forced dozens of stations to run dry?

Agriculture Commissioner Charlie Bronson offered one theory Tuesday: "The blogs on the Internet," he said. "I'm getting concerned that people are believing what they're seeing on the blogs."

He didn't specify which ones, but the Tallahassee Democrat covered the gas panic in detail, and posted the news at 2:45 p.m. last Friday that a McKenzie Oil convenience store was charging $5.49 a gallon. The post quoted a McKenzie official as saying his wholesaler had increased his price by $1.85 a gallon.

Bronson, meanwhile, held a news conference a short time later in which he reassured the public that there was plenty of gasoline in Tallahassee, but by then the panic had spread to the capital city. Bronson said a consumer panic is "dangerous stuff," and he shuddered to think what would happen if such behavior also spread to food. "This is exactly the same thing as yelling 'Fire!' in a crowded theater," Bronson said.

This what is triggering panic at the pumps. The idea of 4 more years of Bush policies. McCain is a continuation of the failed economic policies of George Bush

--Jeffrey Sachs, a renowned economist and special adviser to the U.N. secretary-general, said he blames the Bush administration for "ignoring the economy" and the Fed for increased deregulation.

Sachs said he thinks Obama's plan is "closer" to being on target, with his calls for regulation. McCain also has started talking about increased regulation, but Sachs said McCain has "reinvented himself in the last 24 hours" with such talk.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I got the idea from our local FOX news afilliate, and I
RUSHed (ha ha, sorry) right out like the lemming I am, and gassed up the old Hummer with about $200 of Saudi Crude.

Bronson is asking us to start being informed citizens and stop being "Sheeple"

It is morons (like 3:56) and morons only that caused the panic.

I passed by all the idiots lined up at the pumps laughing and waving on Friday.

Reality caused the panic... pinheads!

Morons caused the panic: Amen. I waved at them. Little sheep. baaa

The panic may be from the fear of Obama being in the White House & having terrorist running wild in the U.S.

Gas will drop to $3 a gallon in less than two weeks.

I decided to not be a sheeple, problem was the only gas I could find when I left work at 8 was premium, after I filled up I couldn't afford beer.

I would think if the panic was caused by fear of who was going to be our next president, topping of the tank 4 months before the inauguration isn't going to do much good:)

Blogs don't kill gas supplies; stupid people do.

Republicans just don't want people to know what's going on...like this...

How much value each company lost between October 9, 2007 and September 12, 2008. Here are some of the individual losses.

Citigroup: $236.7 billion to $97.8 billion.

Bank of America: $236.5 billion to $150.2 billion.

AIG: $179.8 billion to $32.3 billion

Goldman Sachs: $97.7 billion to $61.3 billion

American Express: $74.8 billion to $45 billion.

Morgan Stanley: $73.1 billion to $41.1 billion.

Fannie Mae: $64.8 billion to $700 million.

Merrill Lynch: $63.9 billion to $24.2 billion

Freddie Mac: $41.5 billion to $300 million.

Lehman Brothers: $34.4 billion to $2.5 billion.

Washington Mutual: $31.1 billion to $2.9 billion

10:16, the company value losses...where is the money now? In Bush or McCain's pocket? In the Republican congressional majority cash vault?
Where did it go? You leave the impression the Republicans stole the money. Where?

People paniced in Tallahassee because they are frantically trying to make ends meet. State employees are being told that massive lay-offs are coming and to "prepare." But how can the least paid in the nation prepare?

Good luck in protecting abused children, getting safe food in restaurants, and knowing your drinking water is safe - Florida will soon be as safe as any third world nation.

10:33 - Yes, in the Republicans' pockets. And in the Democrats' also. Maybe even a few Independents'. Locally, parties may mean something. But at the national level, it's one big good ol' boy and girl network, a bunch of back-slapping pro-business hogs at the trough. Their lack of oversight that brought on this mess was not an accident. It was bought and paid for by the people whose businesses have now failed. So yes, the money is in their pockets. I'm Buzzard and I approve this message.

Republicans are the enablers of de-regulation. De-regulation allowed this mess to happen. Republicans will continue to support de-regulation in the future, despite the lies of John McCain. Therefore, if we elect more Republicans, we can expect to see the business failures extend to other economic areas. People seem to believe John McCain's lies; at least, he hasn't fallen tremendously in the polls as you would expect. It's obvious that we're a bunch of stupid sheep - we might as well admit it. So let's go ahead and prepare for a full blown Depression, more disasters, and more corporate bailouts, using our childrens' money.

I think that summarizes the situation pretty well.

The panic may be from the fear of McSenile being in the White House & having terrorist continuing to run wild in the U.S.

Why are Dubya, Dickey, McSeminle, McFailin protecting Osama Been Forgotten?

People please ! My 93 year old grandmother has seen it all and she says this is just the tip. IT is just about to hit the freakin
fan in America. REVOLUTION !! !
