Johnnie Byrd and Sarah Palin
Former Florida House Speaker Johnnie Byrd penned an open letter to Sarah Palin on TownHall.com: "Dear Sarah,
"Alzheimer’s disease is ravaging millions of Americans, mostly seniors, but not always the elderly. That is why I write you—because we don’t choose to become advocates; we are called to action by our loved ones. As I listened to your recent interview with Sean Hannity my heart was warmed to hear you pledge to advocate for the prevention and cure of diseases that challenge America’s families:..."

My inbox cries every time I get one of his emails. But I'm too afraid he'll ask for money to be removed from the mailing list.

I find it amazing that Alzheimer's Disease and Down's Syndrome have been scientifically linked. Hopefully whoever is elected in November can move us ahead on a cure for both.

Watch the money flow. Obama dollars can tell us a lot.
1. $120,349. Other People's Money.
Senator Obama received more political contribution money from now-collapsed mortgage banks Fannie Mae [Federal National Mortgage Association] and Freddie Mac [Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp] than all but one of the 353 other senators and congressmen who received political contributions from these two entities which were recently taken over by the federal government.
Even more dramatic is the fact that 19 years (from 1989 - 2008) of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac political contribution statistics show Senator Obama received his $120,349 despite having been in the U.S. Senate for just three years. Only Senator Chris Dodd, Democrat of Connecticut -- who has been in Congress for 33 years (1975-81, House of Representatives; 1981-Present, Senate) -- received more.[1]
2. $195,000. Other People's Money.
Soon after her husband was elected to the U.S. Senate, his wife Michelle Obama received a $195,000 raise (to $316,962 in 2005 from $121,910 in 2004); subsequently, in 2006, Senator Obama requested a $1,000,000 earmark for Mrs. Obama's employer, the University of Chicago Hospitals, where she handles "community outreach"[2] -- which is apparently akin to being a handsomely paid "community organizer" but with better contacts.
3. $1,000,000.
Obama's employer, the University of Chicago Hospitals, where she handles "community outreach"[3] - which is apparently akin to being a handsomely paid "community organizer" but with better contacts.
4. $250,000. Other People's Money.
When asked during the Democrat presidential nomination race how much money Chicago slumlord and now-convicted felon Tony Rezko had raised in contributions to his campaign, Senator Obama waffled and wafted like the slim timber he is and said his "best guesstimate" was $10,000 to $15,000. In fact, it was $250,000.[4] Mr. Rezko is a long-time associate of Senator Obama and was his first substantial financial backer. Also, "when Obama bought his $1.65 million South Side home, there was an adjacent landscaped lot, which Rezko's wife purchased on the same day for the full asking price of $625,000." [see #5 below].
5. $625,000. Other People's Money.
Senator Obama and his wife, Michelle, purchased a $1.65 million Georgian revival mansion in Chicago, where they now reside. While wealthy Syrian-born Chicago slumlord Tony Rezko was already known to be under federal investigation, the senator approached Mr. Rezko about purchasing the two adjoining properties, then toured the home with Mr. Rezko (now a convicted felon on those charges). Soon after Senator Obama bought the mansion for $300,000 less than the asking price.[5] On the same day, Mr. Rezko's wife purchased the adjoining vacant lot for the full asking price of $625,000.[6]
6. $75,000. Other People's Money.
Senator Obama served as a paid director to a "progressive" Chicago-area non-profit organization, the Woods Fund, from 1999 until almost 2003. William C. Ayers -- who, despite the senator's protestations to the contrary, is a long-time friend and political ally -- served with Senator Obama on the organization's board of directors.
Mr. Ayers is an unrepentant and unpunished American terrorist. Mr. Ayers and his now-wife, Bernadine Dohrn, were leaders of the radical Left, terrorist group, the Weather Underground which was responsible for 25 bombings in the 1960's and 70's including bombings of the New York City police headquarters, the Capitol in Washington, and the Pentagon. After successfully fleeing to avoid prosecution for ten years, Ayers and Dohrn turned-in themselves in 1980 but were never prosecuted due to improper police investigatory actions. "Dohrn was once on the FBI's Top 10 Most Wanted List and was described by J. Edgar Hoover as the ‘most dangerous woman in America.'

The $700 Billion dollar investment bank handout is all one giant practical joke on us tax-payers. These numbers are insane and I know where they are pulling them from.
If the market for this junk has seized up, they are by definition worthless. It is that simple, no one wanting to by them means they are worth 0 dollars!
So now we have the government willing to pay these morons $700 Billion for something the free market has decided is worthless.
What a scam.

$0 , at last,... Obama Dollars
Now remember, Senator Obama's campaign theme is "Hope" and "Change You Can Believe In," nevertheless, the senator's half-brother, George Hussein Onyango Obama, lives in dire poverty in a tiny, collapsing, dirt-floored hut on the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya. According to Kenyan-born George Obama (who is pictured outside his hut in the Telegraph U.K. newspaper as well as Vanity Fair magazine (Italian edition) and the Chicago Sun-Times) he exists on approximately $1 a month. Senator Barack Obama met with him in 2006, and had already been a United States Senator for at least a year.[27]
Other people's money is one thing. Obama dollars are something else. There is a lesson here on the man's friends and family, and most importantly, his character

My mother has Alzheimers and her monthly medication is far beyond her ability to pay. Republicans are known for their empty promises, and this is just another. If you want to help people with Alzheimers REIGN IN BIG PHARMA AND LET US HAVE SOME AFFORDABLE DRUGS. Otherwise, spare us the campaign lies.
PS - AS IF two heartless conservatives like Hannity and Palin would ever try to help people.

TAXPAYER SCAM -
That is true. The investment banks (Goldman Sachs,et el)are going to sell us $100 Billion(?)of collateralized debt for $700 Billion.
I guess they need the money so they can buy a baseball team or a new jet. These guys are criminals. We need to round up all these Wall Street investment banker types, treasonous politician/lawyers and confiscate their ill gotten gain.
Cheers

"Dear Sarah,”
"Alzheimer’s disease is ravaging millions of Americans,…” as evidenced by the fact that McSame picked you!…

Another reason to advance stem cell research.

PlEEZEOPLEEZE, dont take any moving pikturs of sandy zamboni meeting with furriners and saying stoopid things...PLEEZE!!:
------------------
"That gal with the lipstick is going to meet with Important World Leaders at the UN today, so naturally the McCain campaign did not want any reporters anywhere near that disaster. They said, “OK all you press organizations can get together and decide on ONE cameraperson to record the beginning of these meetings, before Sarah says something awkward about Hamid Karzai’s hat, but there will be no reporters to ask questions.” And for the first time in the history of ever, the press collectively told McCain to cram it. And then they took it back.
There was going to be a full-on press boycott of the whole awful event, which really only meant the evening news wouldn’t be running silent footage of Palin shaking hands with some random dignitaries. But the McCain folks said, “Fine you have have ONE pool reporter in with your camera guy,” even though usual protocol is to let in one reporter each from print, TV, and radio.
And the press said, “Ok,” so now there is one camera person and one reporter on the scene to maybe film stuff or ask a single innocuous question before Sarah Palin disappears into her dark lair with Ban Ki Moon and rips off her latex mask, revealing Dick Cheney in a leather muu muu."

Crooked, McCain's campaign manager was paid $2 million by freddie and fannie. Now if only Sarah Palin actually supported stem cell research that might even lead to cures for Alzheimer's. That would be awesome.

Sad that dems turn so violent as 1:40 does when light is shone on The One.
Start coming to grips with it now:
Obama will lose big in November.

Congratulations to the people at the Byrd Institute for this discovery.
It is too late for my mom but my hope is that others, who may not even know they have AD yet, will be able to benefit.
And if babies and people with Down's can be helped too, that will truly be a miracle.

2:34 Yes! and reasonable profit margins too. Emphasis on "reasonable." If they can't make it affordable to everyone without excessive greed then let's socialize medicine and research. That's one of the reasons why we pay taxes and have a government in the first place. So we ALL can have the benefits of society, not just those who have political connections or wealthy parents.

Who would make the better President?
A guy who was the head of the Harvard Law Review, or a guy who can't remember how many houses he owns?
Posted by: Chris | September 23, 2008 at 04:11 PM
Humm, a guy who got into Harvard on affirmative acion and as a "favor" for Dr. Khalid Abdullah Tariq Al-Mansour and was put on law review because of his race and wrote only one, heavily edited note? Or a man who has committed his life and honor to serving this country, who has made his reputation as being fair? And who is admired by Sen. Biden who has said he'd be honored to serve in his admistration and that Obama doesn't have enough experience?
Easy choice for me! I'm not voting for a guy who could sit in a church for 20 years and not notice when his Pastor called for the destruction of this country and the elimination of the "white devils" and Jews.

Politics aside, I'm proud of the two former Florida House Speakers from Tampa Bay who have continued to help people after leaving politics.
Both Lee Moffitt and Johnnie Byrd have devoted their energies to lifting people up, and The Moffitt Cancer Center and The Byrd Institute are shining examples of what can be done when people care.
It will take the continued support from Republicans and Democrats to keep the resources necessary for finding cures.
When Cancer and Alzheimer's Disease and Down's Syndrome are cured, the money saved by our government will be incalculable.

TownHall.com: Does this mean that Johnny Byrd is looking for another office to run for? If he wins, he will make more enemies like he did has house speaker in Tallahassee

I'm glad to see Tampa and USF get some recognition on the healthcare front.
It seems like Orlando and Palm Beach have beaten us on that end in the last few years but USF is moving forward.
If USF ever gets that research hospital they want, the sky will be the limit for this type of discovery.

GAG!
Paliar even cut money for the special olympics. She could care less for the disabled. She only cares about herself, and certainly not about her own kids.

HELP ME. I am vomiting and I cannot stop.

I know I'll probably get Alzheimer's because people on both sides of my family have it. The only hope I have and probably the only hope for many of us in the Baby Boomer generation is this kind of research. At least someone is trying to do something!

How in the world can any person actually support or fall into this Palin chaos. She is ignorant of all things scientific, politcal, and economic.
She is not allowed to answer any questions whatsoever that have not been pre-scripted. The McCain campaign has forbid any news agency from asking any direct non preprescribedis unable to answer them.
She is a nothing more than a marketing puppet playing into the gullibility of those who lack actual vision.
I feel sorry for those who fall for this ploy. I am a die hard conservative, but the choice of her has been nothing but a disgrace to those of us he want a future, not just a win.
