Officials report a few heat casualties
[Jim Damaske | TIMES]
DUNEDIN -- Today's high temperatures caused some casualties at the Obama event. William McElligott, division chief of the Dunedin Fire Department, said his team treated 22 people for heat-related injuries.
The patients were among the crowd of 11,000 that McElligott estimated were inside the stadium.
At one time, he said, the line to get in was in excess of a mile (eventually, everyone got in) and temperatures reached 88 degrees.
Three people were taken to area hospitals for more advanced care. There were no critical cases, he said. McElligott's team operated an area that offered air conditioning and water.
"Most of the folks here needed to cool down,'' he said, calling the room "the basic comfort station.''

11,000 thats kind of pathetic. Sarah Palin draws 60,000 and all the chosen one can draw is 11,000.
Kind of disappointing.

Palin kicked Obama's butt, by 6 to 1, but the left wing media will never admit it. The St. Pete Times is in the tank for Obama. Objective reporting? Not.

Professing to be Christian, while blaspheming our Savior by calling Obama the “Messiah”.
Professing to be Pro-Life, while the majority of “Abortion-on-Demand” is by 25-35 year old professional Republicon women, wives, staffers, daughters, and mistresses.

Obama is a coward for not returning to D.C. to work on a vote for returning our economy to a more stable situation. However, that would mean making a tough decision, which he is not capable of doing. He;s a senator first and candidate second--we are paying him to be a senator. He should get his butt back to Washington!!

What does Obama know about work, he is community organizer. Just remember its the same thing as a small town mayor minus the actual job responsibilities.

This whole "let's suspend the campaign" notion is just a cheap political ploy. The negotiations in DC would go a lot smoother without McCain and Obama there to politicize the proces even more. Besides, McCain has nothing to offer on the subject other than cheap political posturing. What's he going to do? Go in there and say "Well, I think the fundamentals of our economy are strong, but..."? He and Obama need to go ahead with the debate and planned and let the people in DC, who know what they are doing, work out the details.
Posted by: | September 24, 2008 at 04:47 PM
It's sad when your candidate has NO substance and you have to resort to constant rhetoric. Seriously, Obamians cut the rhetoric and give us some facts. TELL US SOMETHING THAT YOUR "MESSIAH" HAS ACCOMPLISHED OTHER than raising taxed for those who make $47,500 or less. Let's get REAL here.

Where is a RELIABLE report that Palin drew 60,000? The only place that has been reported as far as I have seen I in these blogs and I'm wondering if it is the same person posting that over and over. Blogs of any kind are hardly a reliable place for news.
Announced Friday. Small town. Work day. People told to not bother coming after a certain time because the line was over a mile long and 3-4 abreast at any given spot. 11,000 INSIDE, that does not include those left outside. I got there at 9:00 and the line was already wrapping around the stadium. Before 10:30 we could not see the end of the line because it went back so far.
I saw about 10 protesters. 3 or 4 beforehand, a couple inside who left, and a couple afterwards.
I saw private schools allowing their students to attend. One made a small field trip out of it.
I saw proud Republicans there to support Senator Obama.
Vets supporting the Senator.
I met people who had come from Hudson and even Tallahassee.
Senator Obama remarked that we all needed to work together, including gays and straights.
Not offer health care to babies? Umm, ok. *nods and moves away slowly as to not startle*
Good thing ALL us unemployed people didn't show up! 11,000 crowded that place - 606,000 would have be nuts!
Posted by: | September 24, 2008 at 04:53 PM
Brit, what the hell are you talking about? Do you just make this stuff up or do you actually read it on some right wing blog somewhere? Here's a tip friend... start thinking for yourself instead of just listening to what the GOP tells you to believe.

Is this the first time in history a candidate has tried to cancel or avoid debates? Mccain isnt on any of the committees that are writing the bills, so why is he returning to Washington? He cant sit in on any of the meetings. Either he is not well or he believes he can make political hay out of this. Either way, he is not doing himself any good. Oh, and Obama the next time you reach out to Mccain to issue joint statements or encouragement, think again. Mccain is only interested in himself.
Posted by: Realist | September 24, 2008 at 05:34 PM

I agree on the joint statement, if true, that was petty and low.
Debates - I would hazard a guess that the state of the economy would hurt McCain in debates, and if it can be stabilized, by some miracle, before the debate is rescheduled it will be to their advantage. It could also be just political posturing.
I imagine there will be votes of the full Senate ultimately, but probably not until next week, if ever.

Interesting debate on whose candidate has the most people show up to listen to them speak. I wonder if there is any correlation to the final vote.
I personally wouldn't wait 15 minutes to hear anybody speak.

Casualty can also refer to someone who was injured or hurt. Probably more commonly used to refer to someone who died.

McCain wants to cancel the debate because he knows he will have to include debating about the economy.
And McCain has already been quoted as saying he doesn't know much about economics.

It is pretty clear that the newspaper is slanted. I am surprised that St. Pete could afford to have all of those staff writers at one location at the same time. Oh, that's right, you don't report on anything of real importance. And we definitely know that you don't do any investigative reporting - it appears all of your writers are op/ed reporters (although normally op/ed writers are usually not affiliated with the newspaper to whom they are submitting their writings).

Obama rejects McCain call to delay debate
By BETH FOUHY
Republican John McCain said Wednesday that he wants to postpone Friday's debate to deal with the nation's financial problems, but Democrat Barack Obama said "it's more important than ever" that the country hear from its next president.
http://www.miamiherald.com/news/politics/campaign-2008/story/699738.html
Two U.S. Senators in Washington won't contribute much to a debate that has so many people already involved.
Besides McCain has said numerous times that doesn't know much about the economy.
The REAL reason is that McCain is seeking to avoid a debate with Obama.
Pure and simple.
