Tax cuts may wait despite public anger

Providing property tax cuts to an outraged public is much like the job of Sisyphus of Greek mythology, who was condemned to roll a boulder up a hill only to have it tumble back down again and again.

The latest sign of the futility: Wednesday's ruling by the Florida Supreme Court to strip Amendment 5 from the November ballot for misleading language. The measure would have eliminated most school property taxes for a higher sales tax.

So what now? Not much. The election cycle means it is unlikely voters will see another bold option before 2010 even though the demand for relief has not waned in the face of falling property values. (story here)

The economy..."the dollar will react to the presidential polls, as democrats are seen as more fiscally prudent than republicans."

Hard to believe folks but the Democrats are more prudent with tax dollars than the Republicans. The GOP spends our taxes like drunken sailors.

The federal government announced late yesterday that they are seizing recently-privatized Freddie Mac and Fannie May, and placing them in conservatorship. Foreign powers who hold the paper from these two corporations have expressed a crisis of confidence in these holdings, and this receivership action is necessary to prevent a mass selloff by those foreign underwriters at pennies on the dollar. The two companies own or guarantee almost half of the country's $12 trillion in outstanding home mortgage debt, and the net result will be a structured bail-out paid for by tax dollars. The cost of this bail-out is incalculable at this point.

It's the concept of socializing the losses and privatizing the profits.

The mortgage mess is the biggest argument against deregulation.

This exposes the hypocrisy of those in the financial sector. They want less regulation so they can make tons of money, but when the bottom falls out they want the government to take them over.

That is until the market starts recovering, then they want it re-privatized and de-regulated so they can vacuum up as much money as they can again.

I remember when Republicans believed in Darwinian economics. Now we're weak and worthless. Disgusting. Let 'em fail.

So what? Most Christians believe that all nonChristians are going to hell! And most Muslims believe it is their duty to send nonMuslims there!

The real question is which party stands for strong borders and supports the ONLY democracy in the Middle East??????

I'm sick of irresponsible conservatives who whine about wanting tax reform when it means less money for schools and services for you and me, but when it comes to bailing out their failed investments, they want to spend our tax dollars by the boatload. Bottom line - spending is OK, as long as every tax dollar we collect goes to them - not to the average American.

So what? Karl Rove and his minion McToady will tell votes whatever lie they think will get Bush III elected and keep the traitor neo-cons in power long enough to continue the destruction of our country.

Check the facts - John McCain is making promises to every special interest group in our country to spend spend spend on their pet projects. His spending will dwarf Barack Obama's. Ask John McCain where he's going to get that money from without raising taxes. His lates attack ads try to portray the DEMS as "tax and spend." So I guess he's not going to want to answer that question, is he?

Money for highways and bridges runs short, but Bush still has billions for war and to bail out his investor buddies. Irresponsible GOP tax breaks and record spending coming home to roost, folks. It's just the beginning:

This blog is no longer fun. All these Oboma bloggers posting on off subjects! Show they are really worried!! But in the mean time can't the Times do something about this??

2:11 Doesn't Fox News have a blog where you can post your lies, McToady? I'm sure they'd be happy to recognize you as one of the gang and censor anything that didn't meet with Karl's approval.

2:11 Just shows you what a bunch of losers they all are...

OBAMA = RACIST BABY KILLER!!!

MCSAME = RACIST YOUNG ADULT KILLER!!!

So... how's that $240 working out for y'all?

Hahahahahahahaaaaaaa...

You dopes would buy a bucket of sand in a desert.

Property taxes are coming down drastically because housing values are in free fall.

Am 5 was the dumbest proposal ever. Thank you supremes.

We sense your panic...Noboma-ites...it must be difficult watching your candidate melt down...and watching the election slip through your fingers. McCain now leads in Florida and Ohio. McCain now leads in Missouri and North Carolina. Virginia is now tied...and he has closed the gap in Michigan and Pennsylvania to within the margin of error. Say a prayer for President John McCain before you go to bed tonight.

There are a lot of people who are going to continue rasing h _ ll about property taxes because spending is still out of control. Why should taxpayers be forced to fund all of these pet projects that have nothing to do with public infrastructure roads, sewers or services such as police, fire etc.

Stop whining! you people don't need any tax breaks. I do and so do the rest of the wealthy. When my taxes are cut I spend. I go out to eat, play golf, have my shoes shined, have my car washed. I crank up my AC and use my pool more which by the way keeps my pool boy employed, buy more things for myself and go on more vacations. So what's the problem? You all benefit from my spending. If the state gave you a tax break what would you do? Pay off some credit card debt, buy a few more gallons of gas maybe some medication. Who benefits from any of that except some big business. So vote no on Ament 5. My kids will enjoy their private school even more.

Can you imagine what would happen if Christians or Jews did this to a Muslim site?
